chef, bread, pocket knives, kitchen shears, pet nail trimmer, medieval implement

Mike took four kitchen knives, four pairs of scissors, a pet trimmer, a set of salon scissors, a couple sentimental items and sharpened them all in less than an hour of my knocking on his door uninvited. He also quickly did the pocket knife I forgot in my pocket when I came back to pick them up. I got a lot for the money! All the scissors work like butter and the knives and implements are perfectly sharp!

Got them returned gift wrapped!! lol

Mike told us it would take an hour, and directed us to a lovely neighborhood coffee shop across the street.

A serving of word salad for you, now chopped with a wicked sharp knife!…read more I am someone who believes in the utility of an EDC (Every Day Carry) knife. I have been able to upgrade a closet, open packages, soda bottles, and fix an award plaque, and more, all thanks for my trusty Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. I am of the age when many friends are getting married, and I often see knife sets on wedding registries. Here's a $100 cash and a tip that will save you $150 more: just get a good chef's knife, and keep it as sharp as reasonably possible. You may need a bread knife and maybe some steak knives if you plan to do some bbq-ing, but still cannot beat a trusty chef's knife. True to form, both my pocket knife and chef's knife get a fair amount of work. I have a pull through sharpener at home (though it technically hones more than it sharpens). This one is good for some regular 'maintenance' when the edge starts slipping instead of gliding through a tomato, but every now and again, having a professional but a proper edge does wonders. Now, as much as I would love to have a kitchen knife sharp enough to shave with, I also know this would result in a brittle knife that would break as soon as it met cartilage. At the same time, I have seen many reels of knives that can cut paper on the fly. While I found out there is a certain technique to do so, Northside Cutlery was able to get my knives sharp enough to glide through paper. The rates are reasonable at $7/knife, and the turnaround time is fast. Everyone working the shop was kind and friendly as well. While professional sharpening is not something I do on a regular basis, I can absolutely see myself returning to Northside Cutlery for all my sharpening needs.

I recently attended the "Hands-On Essential Building Blocks" class at The Chopping Block! The 9…read morehours of cooking certainly paid off with some delicious meals! Although I did think the chef in charge was very knowledgeable, and the meals did turn out fabulous, I was a little disappointed with the class structure for a few reasons. 1. For the price of this class, I assumed that we would all be individually learning to cook each component - that was not the case as we were put together into teams of four where we divided responsibilities. So not all building block skills were able to be practiced by all team members. I had chosen this class because I wanted to learn these building block skill hands-on. However, if you're looking to meet new friends this may just be the spot for you! 2. Like I mentioned, the meal we made was super delicious. But in my opinion, it's creativeness / the fact that it wasn't more simple skipped over some of the true basic skills needed in everyday kitchen use. For example, I wish we had learned more about pan use / heating up / etc. And because we had so many components to the meals, some of the lessons felt kind of rushed where we weren't necessarily able to dive deeper into those questions since there were so many people per amount of chef / helpers I do think that this is a great org, but perhaps I would have felt more bang for buck in a more specified topic / shorter class

They were super organized. We were split into four groups and each group worked together to create a 4 course meal. Our meal consisted of bbq shrimp, Cajun crab dip, jambalaya, and bread pudding. The chef leading the class was really entertaining and had a lot of great pro tips. There were some other chefs assisting in clean up along the way and taking drink orders. My wife and I really enjoyed our experience and can't wait to come back.

The slogans and jingles are memorable, and all is good and fine until you need to visit one. Let me guess, it goes something like this: You walk in looking for an item and an associate who can help you. You see someone in paint, but know they can't leave their post, so you continue looking. Aha! A person! Oh wait, that's a cardboard cutout. (This actually happened to me recently at a big box.) Finally, you find someone, and they tell you where to find the item in question. Only, the entire endeavor took way too long, meanwhile, the house is a mess while you're gallivanting the aisles. Enter Clark Devon Hardware. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted and offered assistance. Even if you are just browsing, others will ask you along the way. If you do ask for help, you will either be taken to the item or shown to a person who can help (as in, 'ask this person right over here,' who sees and waves). The team at Clark Devon is knowledgeable, kind, and no nonsense. They know you have things to do and places to be. They will be happy to help you and send you on your merry way. Clark Devon may not be the prettiest hardware store, and perhaps the big boxes may even have slightly cheaper prices (this is unconfirmed). However, it is my go-to for all hardware and home improvement needs, not only out of a desire to support a locally owned business, but because customer service counts for something too. If I am to offer one smidgen of feedback, it's that I wish they were open until later in the evening. For sometimes you come back from work and discover the closet rod has snapped in two, and you need parts to replace and fix.

Anytime I've visited Clark Devon Hardware they've always had what I needed. I normally only visit Clark Devon Hardware when I need a niche item that my closer hardware store doesn't sell or have in stock. I was recently on the market for a new screen sliding door and Clark Devon Hardware came highly recommended. They have a special section in the back of the store for custom orders. I prior to placing the custom order I was told the specific measurements that I needed to capture for my screen door. The process to submit an order went very smoothly. I was able to pick out the color of the metal for the door frame and the screen color. But that was the only positive from that experience. I was quoted roughly 4 weeks to receive my door. I ordered the screen door sometime in the early to middle of September so I was expecting the door to be completed by early to mid October. I was told the material is coming from the East Coast and they had to assemble it in store so thats why they quotes a few weeks. I was fine with the original estimated time. The screen door was a little over $300, it wasn't cheap so I expected them to be a little more organized. The four weeks went by without a word from the store so I waited a little longer before calling them up. I would expect an update from them to let me know other would be delayed. After waiting a little while it was nearing Halloween so I called them up to ask about the door. I gave them all of the information from the order and had to speak to several people to track down my door. The first person I spoke to tried to locate my door and told me it would be ready in a week. But after probing the person for more details they described the door that they were working on and it was a completely different door. It was going to be a white metal framed screen door when I asked for a darker grey door. I had to go through another person before they finally connected me with the supervisor. Since I called towards the end of the day the supervisor told me he would call back the next day, I will give him props because he did call back the next day. Apparently the door was delayed on the East Coast and they weren't aware. I was quoted a new date of mid to late November. I was extremely annoyed but accepted the date. The pick up process for the door was smooth. The door didn't fit properly in my frame but it worked good enough so I chopped this up as a loss. I don't think I'll submit another custom order from Clark Devon Hardware because custom home items are too expensive to trust their disorganization. On the bright-side, they have still have a nice selection of improvement items and the staff was friendly.
