Specialties
The Sharon Cooperative School was founded in 1976 as a place where parents could create a nurturing community of mutual learning, not only for their preschool children but for themselves as well.
This community of shared vision was bound together by the children and a common bond among its families that transcends preschool and follows families throughout the course of their lives. The school welcomes about 70 children aged 2 years 9 months to kindergarten per year from Sharon, Canton, Mansfield, Stoughton, Walpole, and Foxboro among other towns. In 2004 and 2009, the Sharon Cooperative School earned accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the nation's leading organization of early childhood professionals. By earning accreditation, the Sharon Cooperative School has become a leader in a national effort to raise the quality of early childhood education, and to help give all children a better start.
History
Established in 1976.
Sharon residents, Susan Markowitz and Pearl Falk founded the Sharon Cooperative School, two half day classrooms in 1976. They envisioned a place where parents could create a nurturing community of mutual learning not only for their preschool children but for themselves as well. The full day Day School program was added in 1995 when the need for fulltime education and care of preschoolers was recognized. The school expanded from two classrooms to four and the Cooperative community grew in size. Though larger in number, the school held true to the vision set long before and now all the families of the Cooperative and Day School classes are linked in their friendships and belief in a nurturing community of mutual learning. The Sharon Cooperative School, licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education for Children, and NAEYC accredited, offers full day programs for children aged 2 years 9 months to kindergarten.
