The Shak is a great little headshop and they have some of the finest glass to be found in Alaska. Their in residence glass artist can do repairs or create custom work. I've been here many times but recently to purchase a new bowl for my water bubbler. I told the lady at the counter that I need the smallest one they have. She directed me to a counter with many options. I told her I just want the smallest and cheapest one they've got (as they were pretty expensive and break easily). When I got home I found that the bowl she sold me was too large and would not fit into the stem. So I took it back the very next day. I was told that I could exchange it but I could not receive any of my money back. The item was still unused and clean. And the person working was the same person who originally sold me the wrong size. The smallest bowls they had were half the price of the one I was instructed to get the previous day. Even though the teller led me to purchase the wrong size they were still unwilling to refund any of the difference. Thus forcing me to take two bowls in order to avoid being over charged. So now I have two bowls when I only need one. I was conned by the teller and they wouldn't even admit any mistake or attempt to make it right. When questioning her about it she actually snapped at me saying, "well don't cry about it.." And insisted that I was being rude! Unbelievable!! Apparently they don't know what customer service is and would rather go out of business than please their customers. The item I purchased was overpriced but the stop was convenient as it was on my way home. I was also under the impression that this was the only store that sold the size I need as that's what they told me when I purchased the bubbler from them... I will never go back to this store again! The prices in this store are usually two to three times higher than anywhere else. During a previous visit I questioned the owner about this. He blatantly lied to me by telling me that their brands were better and unique and that all the other stores out there were selling fake products or generics. Its funny though how the products at the other stores have the exact same packaging, emblems, and trademarks; look the same, work the same, but cost half the price or less. I have done business with these guys for many many years. But that all came to an end today just over $20. What a shame. To lose an unknown amount of future business all because of a $20 discrepancy. If I were you I would definitely shop elsewhere unless you don't mind over-paying for bad service! There's other places in town. Try the Up N Smoke 2.0 store on Hermon, next to Lowes. They have a larger selection and better prices! read more
