Probably shouldn't write a review while angry.. and everybody makes mistakes, and I have made plenty! Nor do I believe that one should leave a bad review on a whim - a business is someone's livelihood. And, we have all had work done that didn't quite live up to expectation - that
is just part of life. However, I'm frankly shocked that we had to pay this business to butcher my wife's new coat.
A simple job - shorten the sleeves. When she finally was able to pick it up today, it looked as though it had been sewn by someone using a machine for the first time in their lives. The new hem managed to miss a good chunk of the lining, and the internal knit cuff was moved (despite her request NOT to move it) and sewn through the lining to the exterior of the coat, exposing a ragged line of start and stop puckered stitching. Was this sewn at 3:00 am on a trampoline? Like I said, none of us are immune from errors. However, given the final product, it is apparent that these folks are either so unskilled as to not realize what an incredibly poor job they did, or worse (and the reason for this review) - they did an absolute crap job, figured the customer would not know the difference, didn't really care themselves, and just called it 'done'.
My wife is far too constrained by a desire to be nice and polite to speak up for herself, but was crushed. This was not an inexpensive garment, a rare treat for her, and one that she had been looking forward to for quite some time. Would have shortened the sleeves herself, but on such a nice new coat, she wanted to be sure it looked professional. Boy, did we go to the wrong place for that!!!! Now it is back to the manufacturer to see if they can untangle this half-assed Frankenstein autopsy stitch job and rescue the coat. Guess that should have been our first call, but it seemed so simple - just shorten the sleeves. It isn't like she was trying to fit a gown for the Oscars. What she got back looked like the failed project of somebody's 'just taking it for the credit' High School Home Economics class, or perhaps a 'QUICK!!! It only has to hold together for tonight and we open in 10 minutes!!' community theater costume.
So - tread carefully. A very pleasant fellow, but when pressed for time apparently the tailor's pride in delivering quality work for the customer is out the window; or the most basic of skills were just not there to begin with. This simple job has turned into an expensive mess that will take weeks to sort out.
"This is beyond my skill level" - fine. "I really don't have time to do the work" - fine. "I royally screwed up, but here is someone who can fix it" - not good, but it happens. HOWEVER - "I did a complete crap job but am going to pretend like it is perfectly normal.. here's your bill; thank you come again?" That's not how professionals do business. read more
