The owner, Debbie, was so accommodating and provided an all inclusive wedding experience at a reasonable price. She totally nailed our decoration vision my now newly husband and I had for our special day. Debbie was our officiant, too. She did a wonderful job with our ceremony. I am so excited about this place!!! We will be getting married August 4th, 2013 and I can't wait!!! The outside scares you a little because it looks so small. But what the owner has done, and how she sets everything up, really makes it seem so much bigger. I will update my review once we actually get married but this has been our experience so far... The inside is beautiful. The wood flooring is new and just so pretty. The bridal dressing room is perfect and really big. The grooms "room" is small but the room really isn't necessary since the groom usually comes in his tux already unlike the bride who actually has to Change into her dress there. Marquel (I might have spelled that wrong) the owner is the BEST!! She is so sweet, so laid back. She gives a military and public service (like fire fighter and police) discount of 10%. She has always replied back to my emails within hours and my phone calls even quicker. She's helpful and has everything there. She has the tables the chairs. She has the table linen and the chair linens. Napkins, table runners, center pieces, the dinnerware, the silverware cups glasses. She even has the traditional wedding music. She just makes this really easy. I just couldn't be happier with her!!! I was a little worried about the posed photos because the chapel doesn't really have a lot of opportunities or places outside for them. But once I saw point defiance park my worries of that went away!!! It's literally less than two blocks from the park that has a rosé garden, a lake, bridges, a Japanese garden, the ocean, the zoo, the aquarium, the awesome moss covered WA trees... First: let me start by saying that although this venue is wonderful, what you're really paying for is Jan, the owner and operator, who is completely amazing. She does so much work that the venue normally wouldn't do. She really takes away a lot of the stress of planning a wedding ceremony and reception and makes sure your day runs smoothly. The best value that Jan provides is accessibility and flexibility. If you send a question, she gets back to you right away. She's flexible in changing plans as well. She works with you beforehand and day of to make sure everything happens on time. She's constantly scanning the room making sure everything's going smoothly. In addition, she provides additional services like providing drinks service and serving the cake. The chapel itself is lovely. The main room is beautiful and has great acoustics. Jan has her own decorations that you can use, but you can also bring your own. In addition, there is ample (separate) rooms for the bride and groom to get ready and a small kitchen where drinks and cakes can be prepared. Make no mistake, this is a modest space. It's beautiful, but it's not immaculate. It has a "country church" feel, which was perfect for us. If you plan on having your ceremony and reception here, plan on keeping your guest list under 50. We did that and had a great time. It was exactly what we were looking for for our modest but nice wedding. This is a review about a wedding that didn't take place at The Ruston Chapel, but it wasn't because we didn't receive the most gracious and capable service one could hope for at a difficult time, as wedding planning can become. Our wedding was cancelled just a week before it was scheduled when US Customs cancelled my fiancee's visa - without cause. But that isn't the story for this page. Our planning was complete. Colors, food, music, flowers, ceremony, pictures... everything was left in the most capable hands of Debra N. We had the most scrumptious meal by her recommended caterer and the price for the entire package was absolutely affordable. God does work in mysterious ways, and our marriage took place in Canada last month, but I cannot help but recommend The Ruston Chapel to you if you are looking for competent and caring service for a wedding day that will be memorable. I was married here December 10th 2016. I first met with the owner Jan with only two months to plan. With everything she had to offer, I really just had to relax and wait for the day! The decor of the chapel is so beautiful that you don't really need to do the little things. She covered linens, chairs, table centerpieces, music, plates/silverware, and a beautiful secluded room just for the bride. She also was able to step in and make sure we knew what to do! She greeted guests, checked on me, cleared and cleaned through out the evening and made sure the caterer and photographer were all dialed in. She ever made sure my guests drinks were topped off. These are things she "just does" that you wouldn't expect. My mother reviewed also and wasn't pleased but it was my day and it was perfect. My son and his new wife had their wedding at the Ruston Chapel yesterday and it was so wonderful! I simply cannot say enough good things about this Wedding Venue! They met with them in January and they fell in love with the little chapel. It holds up to 70 people and the ladies that run it are very accommodating to your needs! The bride/bridesmaid area is decorated so cute and is filled with everything you would need to prepare for your wedding. We needed a safety pin and it was right there. We had 3 boutonnieres break and they fixed them right away. Our florist didn't supply a corsage we ordered, they made one for us! We needed an ordained minister, they were able to do it. No matter what we needed, they did it and with smiles on their faces. I simply cannot say enough good things about this little chapel! Every time I would contact them, they would reply within a couple of days and always were very helpful. If you want to have a small wedding with up to 70 people, I highly recommend this venue! read more

My review of my not so great experience was deleted. It is a nice place if you can lower your standards and if you don't mind being yelled at by the assistant on you're wedding day. Also, they have AC but make sure you ask them to turn it on. I failed to ask and my wedding night was about 80 degrees, guests had to go stand outside for the majority of our event because it was too hot inside. read more

Now for the review on the chapel. The chapel it 'self was nice in a North-End vintage setting complete with space heater for warmth. This was the perfect chapel for our wedding in June. We ended up hiring the owner, Jan, to be our officiant as well, and I must say, she is worth every penny. She made our day beautiful and special and she kept everything rolling despite horrible traffic and the ceremony starting late. The ceremony she wrote was amazing and heartfelt and it really made us feel unique. We had about 40 people attend. You can probably stuff about 60 people in here, but that's it. She does host receptions, but we didn't have ours here- we did take several of her vendor recommendations and couldn't be more pleased with all of her help. The chapel itself is cute and inviting. There is a bridal suite and a small back porch area that is perfect for photos. It's only two blocks from Point Defiance. It's wonderful, and worth a look if you need a small wedding or ceremony. read more

I rate this 5 stars as everything went smoothly and was relaxed. Jan was very helpful and although stressed on our wedding day, it was clearly because she wanted things to go WELL! It is nice to have someone help make your day successful and take some stress off. The Chapel itself is very cute and we could have had many more guests than we wanted. The brides preparation area is lovely and spacious. On the other hand the grooms area is roughly the size of a large closet. I suggest that they at least put a small fridge in it. It really is funny when you check it out. Awesome! Small and intimate is a correct description so I advise to really take a look at this place.
