I'm posting this as a previous employee who left due to very unprofessional, negligent and downright idiotic practices by the owner of this gym.
The good:
Before I start, I need to preface by saying that the PTs/previous manager there, Andrew and Ads, are amazing. They are incredible at their jobs and deserve all the praise they could possibly get and this review is not at all reflective of their actions. The members are also incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the classes are an excellent way to meet people and feel more comfortable with your training.
Now for the bad:
To say this gym is poorly run is a collosal understatement. I have been a personal trainer for over a decade and I have NEVER worked for such a lazy, half *ssed, negligent owner. No amount of expensive equipment makes up for absolutely dismal handling of this business and disrespect to it's patrons.
During COVID the owner KNOWINGLY continued to direct debit from clients, refuses to give refunds even for clients and past members whom have been debited incorrectly, and did not even arrange to have QR code checks ins to comply with COVID regulations. I had to do this when I started, which would have been an insane fine had anyone reported the business. A sign on the front door instructs people that you must be vaxxed to enter, yet this is not enforced because there are no permanent front desk staff there to enforce it.
The owner delayed hiring another manager after the previous staff member was unable to work, and instead made the personal training staff answer the phone / answer the door and take enquiries / memberships during the times when they were supposed to be attending to their own clients. This was UNPAID WORK which we were not obligated to do, and this explains a lot about why you won't get a phone call back, no one answers emails, none of the staffed hours on the website or the door are accurate.
If you look at their past FB posts, the owner eludes to COVID being the reason why they have no staff behind the desk. It's not COVID, it's because no one can stand working there. I quit working at this gym on the spot, because when I could not stay and help the owner with some paperwork (for FREE, I was not an employee but a sub contractor so therefore it was not my obligation to help), he verbally abused me and told me to "get f*cked" in front of a member.
Today I have to chase refunds for 4 of my PT clients who left the gym after hearing of how I was treated, even though they spoke to the owner DIRECTLY over the phone. Those cancellations were never processed and money is still coming out of their accounts. When they followed it up, even though they spoke to the owner PERSONALLY, he says there's "no record" of them cancelling and will not give them a refund.
I feel like an absolute idiot for asking my clients, some of whom have been loyal for over 4-5 years, to join here. I'm ashamed that they have to deal with this sh*t MONTHS after we all left.
There is no aircon but the owner will get upset if there are "too many fans on" at once, despite it often being hotter inside than it is outside. There is no water fountain and you have to fill up your bottle from the bathroom sink which is incredibly unhygienic, yet when we pressed the owner to purchase one for members, he said it wasn't a priority.
This gym is lucky to have the PTs it has, and I cannot believe they have stuck it out as long as they have.
To say I'd caution against going here is an understatement. read more
