The quality of the meat here is absolutely superb, and their recipes are genuinely to die for. Without a doubt, this shop produces the best jerky in all of Washington state. Rather than bothering with Owens in Cle Elum, you should make this spot in Roslyn an absolute must-visit for the unmatched quality and service.

If you really want to enjoy meat, then you might want to make yourself come here…read more The decor is a horror story, yeah.. I mean seriously not for the faint of heart. When you walk in, you may question if this place is real,.. or a front for something else... actually it's a front.. for a business that could take your freshly kill game, and break it down into all the necessary bits. Yup, they have a butchery service. If that isn't why you are here, it's because of the Jerky, preserved sausage, or the polish sausages. The Jerky is seasoned and tastes of perfection. It's salty, savory, chewy, tender, and all things sexy. They have plenty normally, but I have been told by a local, that they do run out, so if you see something that looks empty, just ask. You wonder why you haven't come here before... well, it might be because it's off the main drag, so you are not going to just drive by it. I paid cash, didn't ask about credit cards, but I think small businesses always appreciate cash, unless told otherwise.

The GLONDO Family are makers of some of the finest Italian artisanal meats on the west coast…read more Goldo's dry salami is made to perfection and perfict for a charcuterie board or just a salami provolone sandwich. High quality equals exceptional taste when it comes to the salami and other deli meats. So I'm traveling the Highway of Life and wound up in Cle Elum. Having stopped by on a previous trip I finally had my ice chest with me so today was the day to load up ON THE MEAT ! So I stair at the meat board along with the glass case of meats to decide what I needed. Well, I grabbed some Italian sausage for some grilling action later ( and man those links were tasty ) and a pound of sliced homemade salami. The salami was so delicious was made by a pair of Glondo's own hands to add the love to its taste... The daughter was running the counter like a champion and took care of my order.. She was very charming and offered samples of the flesh & banter which I enjoyed. $50 later and off I went with a bag of flesh goodies for my enjoyment. Folks this is a must when traveling to Eastern Washington. Fresh meat is a must and GLONDO'S should borrow the ARBYS slogan " WE GOT DA MEAT " because they really do have it. If Heaven had a pit stop, it would be Lee's Summit Deli and Grocery…read more I don't know what kind of sorcery they're working with at this gas station mini mart, but I walked in for a quick fill-up and left with a renewed sense of purpose, a heart full of joy, and the best soda of my entire existence. Let's start with the service: From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted like royalty. The cashier didn't just say hello--he beamed at me like I was the long-lost heir to the Lee's Summit throne. Need help finding something? They don't just point--they escort you. I asked where the beef jerky was and got a full guided tour of the snack aisle, complete with flavor recommendations and a brief history of teriyaki. I've had less attentive service at five-star restaurants. Now brace yourself for the soda machine. This isn't a soda machine. This is a carbonated cathedral. A fizzy fountain of dreams. I approached it cautiously, unsure if I was worthy. It glowed like the Ark of the Covenant. There were flavors I didn't even know existed--Peach Vanilla Dr. Pepper? Cherry Lime Sprite? A root beer so rich it could pay off my student loans? And the ice--oh, the ice! Perfectly crunchy, chewable nuggets of frozen bliss. I filled my cup, took a sip, and nearly dropped to my knees. I've tasted vintage wines, artisanal coffees, and hand-pressed juices--but nothing compares to the liquid euphoria that flowed from this machine. The rest of the store? Immaculate. Shelves stocked like a Swiss watch. Bathrooms cleaner than a hospital operating room. And the deli? Don't even get me started. I had a turkey sandwich that made me question every other sandwich I've ever eaten. If you're within 100 miles of Lee's Summit Deli and Grocery, cancel your plans. Drive there. Experience it. Let the soda machine baptize your taste buds and the staff restore your faith in humanity. Five stars isn't enough. I'd give them a constellation.

While trying to squeeze a quick hike in during a trip to Seattle (from Tri-Cities), I happened upon…read morethe Teanaway River Valley. I had never hiked up this way (did fly fish it last year though). While driving up the valley, I happened upon this little grocery. I didn't have a Wilderness Pass, so I figured I'd stop on in and grab one (as well as some beef jerky for me and my dogs). This place is fairly small. The person running the place was sitting in what looked like an attached living room to the store (her cute kid was playing around on the floor playing)--definitely a homey feel to the place. The woman was nice and answered my basic questions about getting to the trailhead. "yeah, the roads alright, but there are some potholes to look out for", she said. "Potholes" turned out to be the buzzword of the day for me. If you need to pick up any last minute provisions, Teanaway Mercantile is your only options in this beautiful peace of the world.

Formerly out of business for a few years, the Mercantile is now under new ownership and reopened…read moreits doors on Saturday 8/8/13. The new owners seem really great and are still doing renovations and cleaning up the place, with future hopes of running a little sandwich/snack counter once their permits get approved. I'm a big fan of the unmanaged Twentynine Pines campground just a few miles into the hills past the Mercantile and now that this place is open again, I don't have to drive the ~20 miles back into Cle Elum for any supplies I forget. The prices are higher than Safeway and etc, but they're not outrageous and the convenience is worth it. I'm helping host a 30+ person event out that way this weekend and found that the Mercantile wasn't missing anything I might need during the event; they've got beer, propane, food, drinks, supplies, tools, and more. Their plans are to stay open year-round and I hope these guys can make enough to keep their doors open for a while.
