Always busy, because they excel at the classic "pub food" but with consistent quality and reasonable prices.

Sadly, most cruisers would rather eat their meals on the ship, as they've already paid for it; however as foodies, we would rather experience the local menu of the country we're in. White D'or didn't disappoint us. We walked all morning to Castle Coronet and old town, all along the esplanade and were so hungry. We saw this restaurant's menu on our walk to the Octopus for lunch. Got to the Octopus at 11:45 and they would not seat us for lunch, which began at Noon...only breakfast. (Boo!) Walked back to White D'or remembering their posted menu which we saw earlier. Definitely more to our liking. The restaurant is kind of a funky, with a cool living room vibe. You walk up a flight of stairs inside, and into a large open room with comfy sofa / chairs, wallpaper and thoughtful words with purpose / pictures. Decent music. Amazing, respectful and unobtrusive service! Genuine. I'm sorry I don't remember our server's name. She made recommendations when we told her we wanted to try local fare. The menu is tapas style. It's good advice to order two dishes per person, three or four per person if you're famished. We also tried the Guernsey local Cider (Rocquette - hope its spelled correctly). Never rushed, food came out as prepared. We had pita and a wild, tasty and different type of babaganush, Guernsey cheese burger sliders, mixed and spiced olives, fried cheese, sweet potato wrapped in phyllo with beet humus, and duck confit spring rolls with plum sauce. Price was super fair and we think a bargain. Great options for vegan and vegetarian too. Love this place and will definitely return if we're back on this wonderful island. - To the server / manager, we were the 2 Yankee blokes who told you we'd Yelp!

We showed up a few minutes before they opened and they insisted on serving us, the staff was absolutely amazing in that regard. We tried some local ciders and beers as they had a plethora on tap. When their Kitchen opened we ordered their house fries, muscles, and frickles. The dishes were absolutely delicious and for the location were reasonably priced especially for a Michelin star restaurant. The Slaughterhouse was absolutely amazing, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a bite to eat in the area!

Slaughterhouse is aptly named as it is housed in an old slaughterhouse. They have left the hooks and tracks in place to keep the atmosphere and the atmosphere is just cool. Metal, concrete, clean lines - it has an amazing vibe. The service was great. It appears many different waiters and waitresses help each other out which was nice. They were very knowledgeable about what was happening and when a drink was forgotten it was no big deal to have it removed from the bill. It was such a lovely experience. As far as food I ordered the cheeseburger with the poutine fries. Now they weren't true poutine, but it was very close and still very delicious! The gravy was thick and flavorful. The cheeseburger was amazing - thick flavorful beef, delightful cheese, soft bun. My friend got the cured meat tray and he was thrilled with it as it was a full plate of so much meat! He finished his meal with the smoked meat plate which proved to be too much for him to finish! There was meat underneath meat! So much meat! And if their food wasn't enough they had amazing cocktails! The Porn Star martini was intriguing and fun. There was a Jamaican martini that was smooth and dangerous. It was amazing!!! Gooo and discover it yourself!

I asked for…read morea glass of lemonade and a glass of orange juice, and got a glass of the two mixed together. I do not dispute that this was a genuine mix up. However, the way the pub handled this small mistake on behalf of the barman was disgraceful and certainly did not display the Guernsey values of trust and friendliness which we pride ourselves on. Not only did I, the customer, have to pay for the barman's mistake, but also had to tolerate verbal abuse from him. When I politely pointed out that I had asked for two separate drinks, he rolled his eyes, began to raise his voice, saying 'you ask for Guiness, you get Guiness.' I also said I would make this public, to which he said 'do what you like, love.' What is most disappointing about this is that I have given the pub the opportunity to rectify this before writing this review. I spoke to a lady who was very friendly over the phone and said I could have a refund. Unfortunately, when I returned to collect the refund for the drink I didn't ask for, she said she was unable to do this, and denied that the barman had been rude to me. I am under the impression that they saw me as a young person from the UK and therefore had no need to provide a service. I am a 27 year old teacher with connections on Guernsey, and dread to think what impression this pub might give of the island to other visitors. The only way I can describe the people who work in this pub is cowardly. A great shame as the pub has a lot of potential due to it's location, but my friends, family and I will be staying clear of it.
