Dear River Club, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience from start to finish! The guys at the bag drop were the first impression and they nailed it. Smiling, Friendly and even gave me tips about the course. Pro Shop was fast and smooth and WOW their prices were amazing! Golf course was in great shape. Still needs some trimming with trees and tees needed some grass. All in all condition can't be beat, especially for the price! New to the area, we opted to stay for lunch after golf instead of going somewhere else. GREAT DECISION! Food here is incredible! Even if I wasn't a golfer, I'd come here just for the food! We had lunch at River Club Grille today and really enjoyed it! We walked there from a family members home and were greeted by Elise on our arrival. She was very friendly, super efficient and extremely attentive, making many trips to our table during our lunch. I've tried to give them multiple chances. They don't update their website, so you'll show up and find out they're closed. Customer service is lacking. Showed up to hit a bucket of balls at 4:30, the sign said they were open until 5, but one of the attendants said they were closed. I would have stopped going a while ago had they not been the closest course. read more

The course is fun to play, the customer service is absolutely terrible. Multiple occasions now it is always the same awful attitude at the front desk when you try and check in. Strict and rude about check in strictly 15 mins before. The other day I walked in 17 min before check in, had a 3 min convo and at The end he told me to come back for check in, it is made very inconvenient. Go to the course knowing this 30 mins before you should be fine, if you use golfnow. They charge decent for beer that is why they got the 2nd start. It's a decent value I suppose for the course quality and condition. But I did not enjoy the boneheaded policy of having to use a "range cart" as opposed to a "regular cart" for our pre-round practice. This meant we had to unload the cart we were in, reload onto the range cart, then reload onto another cart again. I asked the attendant why the policy? He responded by saying, "For a host of reasons." Okay, why don't you give me one reason buddy. I don't need a host. Also, I need to mention that during all this stupidity, I left a pair of $150 tennis shoes on the "range cart". I asked if they found them and they had no clue and were not really interested in following up on it. So did my shoes walk away on their own? I'll avoid this place in the future. read more

Played here for the first time last week. I was pleasantly surprised. A very nice public golf course with better than average conditions. An interesting layout with some very nice holes. Greens were in great shape and so were the tee boxes and fairways. Course was moist also showing it's being taken care of. Nice practice area and also a nice halfway house with a great selection of sandwiches. When I come back to Florida I'll make sure to play here again. read more

I guess the fact I gave these folks a third chance is on me? Staff, marginal on their best day Course, unfortunately the Nuns did not teach me enough adjectives to describe how awful this Greenskeeper is. Maybe a better term is hobbyist farmer? Nope, doesn't suck enough. Did I mention staff... Did I mention there is a very bored human who seems to get off on making you drive golf carts backwards. That has to be it, as there is not a single cart path only sign...yet 5 front and all back nine holes are programmed that way. Don't worry though, the genius who answers the phone is not concerned. Oh, Marshalls? We don't need no stinking Marshall's, or cart girls. Now, the same genius that made walking the better option to a cart programmed your cart to SHUT OFF crossing streets. Now, there's a challenge...push across the street. That's real smart! Remember kids. #LAW, that's all... So overall...it would be a zero star experience if justifying as much to Yelp were not so hard. So, take your $35 burn it, soak the ashes in Vinegar and rub that paste in your eyes. Played The River Club today. The course is in nice shape with reasonable rates. The course is very tough given the slope rating. My tee time was 12:45 P.M. We got off 15 minutes late. By the time we got done with the front 9 it was 3:30. Normally we are done in 2 hours. I know that my score deteriorates when I am waiting at every hole to tee off, which happened here. We quit after 9 holes. Two things could cause slow play like this. First, the tee-times are too close together and second, people playing the course think it will be easier than it is. This happened to us at this club last winter. We won't return. read more

Unless you are a pro golfer and expect everyone else on the course to be, this is NOT the place for you. Which is fine, I guess, but the rude and disrespectful manner in which the "ranger" approaches you to "speed up" (we were a husband and wife foursome in our 40's) is completely uncalled for and unacceptable. There are many other golf courses a stones throw away! I will spend my money where I will be treated respectfully regardless of my golfing ability. *I read the other negative reviews prior to booking and shame on me for giving this place the benefit of the doubt! This course is a great value! The course is in very good shape, although it is tight and somewhat unforgiving. Lots of trees and some water. There are many varied layouts throughout the 18 holes. It had multiple tee options for varying abilities. It compares favorably to its sister course, The Links at Greenfield Plantation, although I'd favor The Links. The downside are the poor sand traps, so just pull the ball out and play on! Definitely worth a visit! read more

Disappointing, not very friendly especially the younger guys. Had to walk to practice range when carts available. Played 18 and green and coarse was being worked on, would have been polite to tell our group and give discount due to area being limited. Won't return. read more

Beautiful golf course. Lot of leaves but as expected for a public course it can't be perfect. You can get a free booklet for your round which is very helpful. 40 bucks for range bucket, and unlimited golf after 2 PM. Earlier this week we golfed 18 and everything was fine. Course was in good enough shape and we were second off for the morning so about a 3 hour round for the two of us. Today we went back to go again and the starter was very rude and would not allow us to golf just the two of us again. The twosome they had us with had already teed off as I noticed they gave us women's rental clubs and needed to be swapped so I said go ahead guys we will play behind you...well evidently that's all it took for the starter to be rude so we said that's fine we are good just go ahead and refund us. So the course still had a twosome out and they lost the 250$ for tee time, rentals and balls . read more

We just moved to River Club a few monthS who and d have watch the course go from mediocre to gorgeous. Maintenance workers are always out helping the four red stay at its best. We have gone to the Grill a few times and have always been pleased with the food and service. It's under new management and you can tell the owner has knowledge and passion for what he does. read more

Great place to challenge your golf game on this 18 hole course. This time of year it's especially nice to get out and enjoy your favorite sport. Follow your game up by stopping in the Club House for your favorite beverage and something to eat. Friendly and helpful staff make your eating experience enjoyable. Try the daily specials and stop by in the evening (during season) for a different themed dining experience Tuesday- Friday. I especially like Taco Tuesday where tacos are only 9 cents and draft beers $2.00. It's right in your neighborhood, so enjoy a round of golf or just getting together with your neighbors for a beverage on your way home. It's a great addition to our community! read more

Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. To start there is a area that you can drop Your bag off or you can park and carry it down. Our tee time was at 2pm and we arrived about 25 min prior. Went to pro shop paid our fee and walked down to ask the starter about the carts. Asked which one we could grab and he replies you'll grab one when I tell you that you can grab one. Completely disrespectful then I said relax buddy just a question. He replies what time is your tee time I said 15 min he said that's not a time give me the time. I said 2pm sharp he says your not going to go at that time your going to go when I tel you that you can go. Complete little man syndrome of a person with a little power takes it to an extreme. Then I go and get our bags walk them down and he says what your too cheap to pay the bag guys. Like really... I said if I want to carry my own bags them it shouldn't be an issue and to stop being a jerk. He then replies F off you fat F***. That's when I was in shock and started to get heated. Some more words were exchanged and it was going in a bad direction told the guy that I would kindly like to start that it was now 10 min past our tee time. He then says if I get any complaints on you guys your out of here. On the 8th hole tony the owner rides out and says we're kicked off for disrespecting his starter. Didn't ask us for our story said you need to go now we don't need pathetic people like you at our course and I don't want your money. I guess the Apple doesn't far from the tree when the owner is saying this to a customer. Horrible experience he also owns green field plantation the links on st rd 64. I would forbid you to go to these two courses and give this guy money. Tony you've lost a customer and I hope this review of the truth makes you loose customers. Please don't give me a fake apology or try to rectify this since that's your MO for a publicity stunt. You should be ashamed today of your employee and yourself for treating a local customer this way. read more

The new owner has done a decent job of using his experience with another local course to upgrade and provide better maintenance for this course. The Bermuda grass on the fairways has filled in well, and is far superior to the condition of the past decade. It is a challenging course. The price to play is reasonable and varies with the seasons. VERY cheap in the summer when it is not busy, but in the "season" you will likely need an advance tee time. The "clubhouse" is somewhat rustic but the food and bar are passable. It is located a short distance off Rte 70 adjacent to Lakewood Ranch in River Club Subdivision which is also a nice place to take a drive. Many restaurants and stores in the area. read more

Owner has a real anger management problem. I asked a question at check in when I was told I couldn't check in until 15 minutes before my tee time. That's fine, I just never hear that before. I asked the cart guys about it outside the clubhouse. The owner came charging out of the clubhouse yelling at me saying "if you have a complaint take it up with me, I'm the owner." I told him I didn't have a complaint I simply asked the cart guys a question about checking in. The cart guys acknowledged that I simply asked a question. The owner kept carrying on. I told him he assumed I was complaining but I wasn't. He then told me if I said another word he would throw me out. Ridiculous. I'm a professional and didn't raise my voice at all during this discussion. This guy blew a gasket and should have apologized for clearly over reacting. The guy I played golf with said he heard this same owner tried to pick a fight with another customer. What a shame. Owner clearly has an anger management problem. read more

Worst golf course I have ever played. The staff was extremely disrespectful. We had two groups of 4 and was told we needed to play 18 holes in 3 hours. Since that is impossible, they complained and kicked us off the course for playing slow. I have never heard a rule like that and I will definitely never be playing there again. The Manager was an idiot and told us we could not have a refund since we played more then 9 holes. Not to mention they waited till hole 11 to kick us off. The course was 6200 yards and as a person who loves golf, I know how long it takes to play 18 holes. I do not recommend this course to anyone who wants to play golf like its suppose to be played. On top of everything it was Fathers Day and they sure knew how to ruin that for us. Please please never ruin your golf day by going here. read more

I was visiting Sarasota while recovering from a medical issue that required good access to a bathroom. The pro shop assured me over the phone on the day of play that I could have my own cart to not hold up play, totally sympathetic to my problem. When I arrived they changed their mind and said that I had to ride with someone else... club policy. They were not booked up and did not need the cart, so that was not the reason. I reminded them of what they agreed to over the phone and they said too bad. They also did not inform me before I arrived. Very rigid and unfeeling behavior. I will never go back. I am not ordinarily a yelper, but this was beyond the pale. read more

We had a nasty experience here with the staff. Will not be back. The course was horrible shape. The greens were like velcro and awful. The rough was non existence. The fairway needs lots of help. The starter needs an attitude adjustment. Won't be back here ever again. read more
