I first stepped into Salem on April 27, 2025. Just one week later, on May 4, 2025, I walked forward…read moreand became a member. As a new resident of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, I visited several churches. I was prayerful and intentional about where I would plant myself. Two churches were strongly on my heart, and I truly wasn't sure which direction I would go. Then my neighbors recommended Salem Missionary Baptist Church, even after I wasn't certain about joining theirs. My journey stopped there. God knew. Choosing my home felt intentional, even down to the "316" in my address in the Burgess community. But joining Salem was divine alignment. This is what it looks like when you ask God to order your steps and trust Him, even when you quietly ask, "Are You sure, Father?" Almost one year later, I can say with confidence that this was one of the best decisions I've made. The love is genuine. The Word is powerful. The growth is real. Pastor Ronnie Gilliard truly walks in her calling. The teaching is sound, the spirit of worship is authentic, and there is room here to grow, serve, and be poured into. If you're searching for a church home, or even just a place to encounter God in a real way, I invite you to come and see for yourself what God is doing at Salem. You may walk in as a visitor, but don't be surprised if you find family.

I have been to churches all over the country, and the friendliness and kindness here is unparalleled. This in no way takes away from the preaching. What could be better than line by line preaching of all of scripture, not just the nice parts. The bold, witness that the preacher and his family project inspires each attendee to focus on Jesus and what He did for each of us on the cross, and reject the corrupt values this world pressures us to join. Thank you.

The symmetry is classic, but the details reward closer inspection. Each tower is capped with a pyramidal roof and features narrow, arched windows that echo the sanctuary's larger stained-glass panels. These windows are framed in a simple stone trim. The sanctuary itself is built on a raised foundation, with a modest flight of steps leading to double doors beneath a pointed arch. The brickwork is clean and uniform, with subtle corbeling along the roofline and around the tower bases. A cornerstone is set low on the front wall, anchoring the structure both physically and symbolically. The marker out front reads, "Organized shortly after the Civil War with Rev. Edward Rhue as its first pastor, Bethesda Baptist Church purchased this site by 1867. Construction of this sanctuary began in 1922 during the pastorate of Rev. A.W. Puller and was completed and dedicated during the pastorate of Rev. G. Going Daniels in 1927. Rev. W.A. Johnson served as Bethesda's pastor from 1956 until his death in 1995." It is marker number 22-40 and it was erected in 1996 by the Georgetown Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta. The building was locked and secured on the Sunday afternoon I visited. I was still able to walk the grounds and take in the beauty of this magnificent church. [Review 1403 of 2025 - 1347 in South Carolina - 24955 overall]
