We frequent The Red Lion for their pie and pint night (£9.95 on Thursdays) and occasionally stop by on other nights when we can't be bothered to cook. Other than one occasion, when the pie tasted like it had been microwaved (strange taste and texture to crust), the food has been fantastic. It's just a notch above homestyle, which makes for a nice dinner out on a budget. Highly recommend the cumberland sausage ring (served on bubble and squeak with onion rings and a yummy gravy), the fish pie, and beef and ale pie. Well kept Brakspear. Shame they only carry Strongbow as a tap cider, a nice place like this really should have Stowford Press, Thatchers or even Scrumpy Jack on tap instead of the over-commercialised stuff.
Pub side is very cosy and warm and usually bustling with locals. Restaurant side is less cosy, but usually very quiet if you'd like a bit of privacy.
