The pub is an attractive pub, which has a fairly decent selection of beers on tap (mainly Brakespears Original, Special, and one of the other Brakspear specials, as well as lagers such as Fosters, Stella and San Miguel and Strongbow and Guiness on tap. They also have a decent wine list, though the prices are quite high £5.00 for a large wine. I'm not sure about the food, as I have not tried it since the new landlord took over (about 2 months ago). Though i have heard decent reports from friends. There are 3 rooms in which to use, the main bar area, the intermediate bar area and the main restaurant. The bar staff are friendly and welcoming. The only drawbacks with regards to this place, is the fact that the previous landlords removed the log burning fire and replaced it with a gas one. Lame! The other one is that they don't sell Kronenburg on tap!! Visually this pub is up there with some of the better ones, but not quite in the top echelon!!

The welcome is genuine and they have their feet on the ground. They serve beer made down the road and it's popular with real ale fans. The food is good -basic and inexpensive - Ploughman's and sarnies, for example. Good choice of well made cheeses and pate. I love the double seats in the porch. I have fond memories of taking my father here and sharing a seat here. And it's a lovely place to go for a walk along The Ridgeway before or after.
