I used to eat here often when The Red Bird was brand new. Back then, the portion sizes were actually fit for a human and left me feeling full, but now they are seriously lacking. I went there today to pick up an order I placed through Uber Eats. Usually, when you pick up an Uber Eats order yourself, they don't require a verification code. However, when I went to the front and gave my name to the cashier, she asked if I had proof of the order. I told her no, as I had ordered on my computer and didn't have a code. She insisted she needed verification. My phone wasn't working at the moment, which I don't blame her for, but the way she handled the situation was incredibly frustrating. I waited 20 minutes before I actually got my food. The cashier stood there talking on her phone, claiming she needed to ask her manager, but she never actually did. I didn't hear her explain the situation or ask anyone for help. Instead, she just stayed on her phone and eventually slid the food over to me. There was no apology for the wait, no "here you go," and no "have a nice day." She just slid it over with a smile while still chatting on her phone. It felt like she was purposely inconveniencing me. As soon as I mentioned that I had my ID to prove who I was, it was suddenly no issue, and she handed it over without ever checking with a manager. Very disappointing experience. While the food itself still tastes good, it is simply no longer worth the money or the poor treatment. I never expected over the top, bubbly customer service, the staff that used to work here would just get the job done without the fake enthusiasm, and that was perfectly fine. But there is a massive difference between a worker just trying to get through their shift and one who actively goes out of their way to keep you waiting while talking on the phone. Between the disrespectful service and the shrinking portions, this place just isn't what it used to be. read more

Hands down best chicken sandwich spot- consistent, straight forward and fairly priced. Service is great and you can get 2 chicken sandwiches and fries for like 13 bucks AND it's delicious. I get hot and extra hot- perfectly spicy without regret. The building is modern and the vibe is clean and comfy room for groups or just yourself. I love this place HIGHLY RECOMMEND! I can eat Red Birds Chicken Rice Bowl everyday. The consistency in taste and freshness is a key factor in how many times I return to a restaurant my chicken strips were well seasoned and tender. My colleague told me about The Red Bird, so we went there for Friday night dinner. We ordered two hot chicken sandwiches, served on buns with fresh broccoli, crunchy pickles, and fries with the signature big bird sauce. We got our to-go food in just 10 minutes! The Red Bird is a convenient 5-10 min from USF and wow I will be back! I ordered the chicken tender meal, medium, the tenders were moist and the seasoning was excellent. The perfect amount of spice. What really sold me is that when you dine in, you get unlimited sauce, which I loooove my sauce. Other chicken spots could never. The coleslaw salad was also a surprise. I've never had one quite like this one but I wouldn't have it any other way. It was fresh and a bit spicy. I will 10000 percent be back. Great prices, great flavor, great service. This spicy chicken tenders restaurant model seems to be getting very popular. I have only tried Dave Hot Chicken and Red Bird. Pros: Larger seating interior that is clean and has decent A/C. Fair prices and even though the menu is somewhat limited is adequate. The tenders are juicy and tender with a crispy exterior and a decent amount of spice/heat for a mainstream American fast food place. I got "Hot" level and was satisfied. If I had a toilet in my car, maybe I would get the "F-- you crazy" level lol. 8/10 The fries are crinkle cut and while I usually loathe them, these were crispy and thin/long and not short/stubby. 7/10 There are two sauces. A honey mustard one and a spicy/sweet one. Both are solid. I used them more for the fries. The chicken is Halal which is nice for Muslim folks. Cons They close at 7 pm which seems a bit early at least according to Google Maps. Overall: While I prefer bone in chicken in general, this is a pretty decent place. I think it is better than Dave's Hot Chicken. Asian people and spice lovers, be warned and don't underestimate this place lol. read more

Hot chicken connoisseur: I've tried Dave's Hot Chicken, Clutch City Cluckers, Hangry Joe's, The Fryer House, Main Chick, etc. One of the best hot chicken places in Tampa! Great ambience, clean and one of the fastest and most friendly service I've had at a fast food place. The wombo combo doesn't end there as the hot chicken is truly delicious and flavorful as it isn't one of those "die from a single bite" type heat it's well balanced and very tasty/flavorful. I eat and savor spicy food and their "Hot" level is better than anything at Dave's, etc. The prices are the cherry on top, I've gone back time and time again. Whether you're eating in, getting it delivered or picking it up - they're a wonderful choice as their packing is pretty secure and travels well. I finally tried this place. Saw generally good reviews. I ordered chicken tenders for my young kids and specifically asked if the "original" was non-spicy. The lady at the counter said yes. But then said we can make it with no seasoning. I said, "Well, as long as it's non-spicy." No seasoning just sounded flavorless. So I opted for the original level (which is below mild). But I guess I should've taken her comment as a sign. Unfortunately, my kids couldn't eat their chicken tender dinners because it was too spicy. And they eat kimchi and Korean ramyun, so they can handle somewhat spicy. I ended up eating their chicken tender the next day and it was spicy. I thought no wonder they couldn't eat it. It was spicy even to me. The chicken itself is drier, harder, and tougher than I like. The breading was not good. I just can't believe reviewers stated that this was better than Dave's. By comparison, Dave's chicken is much more tender, juicy, and breading is more flavorful. If I had to pay a good amount for chicken tenders, there's no second thought that it would be Dave's. Feels like a costly experiment. But now that I've tried Red Bird, I guess my curiosity can be laid to rest. I'm sorry that I can't recommend this chicken establishment. I wish I could support it, but my business will have to go elsewhere. read more
