There aren't any seat heaters, but surprisingly the temperature was perfect. It wasn't hot or freezing like most theaters. There's no staffed ticket counter so you either buy tickets online or use the self-serve screens when you walk in. One of the employees came over to help me at the screen, and she was very friendly. From what I could tell, they don't offer student discounts. Also, children are considered up to 11 years old, which seems odd - you'd think they'd include anyone 17 and under. They also don't allow anyone under 18 into the theater alone, and if you're 18, you can't bring a younger friend unless someone 21 or older is with you. I don't find that fair, especially for parents who want to drop off their teens for a movie night. The price difference between medium and large popcorn and drinks isn't bad, only about 75 cents to a dollar more. You get a refill on the large soda, and probably the popcorn too, though I didn't ask. I wanted water at first, but they only offer tap water from a fountain, no filtered option, which feels like a sneaky upsell. Overall, the seats are very comfortable, and the concession prices aren't terrible, especially compared to California. But not offering filtered water and restricting minors from attending movies alone just doesn't make sense.

Santikos took over the Grand Theaters and set about ruining the movie experience. Prices are up but…read moreservice is down. You stand in a concession line, pay for what you want, get your own candy (one wonders how much they lose in theft that way), pay the high prices and are gifted with empty containers for you to fight other patrons to fill your popcorn and your drinks. No one to purchase tickets from; you either do that online and pay extra fees or the kiosk at the theater. Oh and don't purchase a daquiri because Santikos cannot price in styrofoam into the $18 price for a daquiri, so your hand will freeze. We saw Iron Maiden: Burning Ambition recently at the Johnston Street location and the theater sounded like it had one front center working speaker set to LOW volume; you could easily have conversations with people next to you, even several seats away. Total garbage, especially for a music documentary. I guess they didn't expect many people, so screw those fans because I heard sound blasting out of other theaters. Don't waste your money or your time. Movies are much better and cheaper at home with surround sound and you'll get better service.

They usually have a good selection of live music and you have the option of being a bar fly with the bartenders and other people there, relaxing in the lounging areas, overlooking the bar up top, or showing off on the dance floor. First Thursday's are usually the night that doesn't let down.
