Reasonable prices and the best cabbage soup! I did not encounter any problems with the service and was happy that they tried to speak a little English. Service was standard for what Prague has to offer - regular time for service and decent customer interaction; not especially friendly nor mean. Food portions are awesome. Definitely get the standard Czech classics like roasted duck leg, pork with buns, etc. Beer is good - got the regular Urquel pilsners and stuff. Really can't go wrong with the comfort/pub food but the patio and friendly English-speaking owner really sold the place for me.

I'm all for historic buildings .. but if I had known in advance this was a Stalinist-era building…read morewith the same amenities as an old Poliburo office ... I would have probably steered clear of this place. Where to begin? This place is now known as the Hotel International now that new management has taken over the premises. This building dates back to the mid-20th century and was a gift from Stalin to the people of Czechoslovakia during the cold war era. In many ways this place has literally not changed since those days. Yes the rooms had been modestly refurbished, but generally it has retained the old, dreary feel of a cold war/communist era building. When you're walking through the hallways it wouldn't be surprising to see some KGB agent or Soviet general walk out of one of these rooms. The doors remind me of an old office building. The rooms themselves are spacious but poorly laid out. The beds here seriously suck. Our room also had an extra third bed for no real apparent reason and they would not move it (even though it ate up a ton of space in our room) because "it's a triple room" (WTF). Anyway, back to the room itself. I mentioned the beds are shit. They are because the sheets felt gross, the comforters were thin and the bed felt like one of those crappy spring beds you find in a cheap motel in the US. Unless you're dead tired from a day of touring around Prague, don't expect to sleep well here. The showers and everything else were not particularly memorable and the room felt dirty overall. The carpets were old and gross. The climate control was also non existent. The room felt stuffy and hot and I had to open the windows full blast (even though it was like 40-50F outside) just to get some air circulating inside. The restaurant here also sucked ass. The quality of the breakfast was pretty shitty though at least the coffee machine was decent. Also the lobby was pretty nice and had a somewhat grand (if not old/Soviet) feel to it. Long story short, unless you want to relive history or have a keen interest in staying in an old cold war hotel, you're way better off staying somewhere else.

First, here are the…read morepositive qualities we encountered: (1) major recent remodel -- attractive & nicely appointed boutique facilities, (2) breakfast service was nice -- quality meats, cheeses, breads & beverages, (3) quiet area with nice surroundings, (4) staff are pleasant & helpful. Now the not so wonderful... location, location, location! Hotel Silenzio is at the top of a hill in an upscale residential area (streets are an absolute maze). The distance from the hotel to the old city center is considerable -- WAY too far to walk. Even with our car, driving to downtown is less than convenient and parking is often a genuine challenge and expensive. No businesses or services are nearby. It is a considerable walk down to the main street and several blocks to reach stores or restaurants -- quite the climb to return to the hotel. Regrettably, Hotel Silenzio does not show up well on GPS. Taxis & Uber drivers often cannot find the hotel. Two Uber drivers cancelled on us and we missed our dinner & show reservations. Look elsewhere is our best advice. For around the same price, the full-service Diplomat Hotel on the main street below is much better. Either of the Marriott properties in the city center are preferred, or better yet, the beautiful art nouveau Palace Hotel downtown - just lovely. Good luck at this one... we would not stay again or recommend to others.
