We became customers of The Pool Guy in 2009, which they resurfaced our current pool and added a spa with a waterfall features coming from the spa to the pool company in 2009. We decided to have them also service our pool and equipment, which for the most part was acceptable. But we started becoming extremely unhappy by mid 2020. We were no longer being serviced by a qualified cleaner for our specific pool and the staff were always changing mid 2020 and 2021. We finally made the decision this month, May 2021, to cut ties due to lack of prompt service, six weeks to repair our pump, and the lack of training for the last nine months! Once our spa started to turn green and was green for 3 weeks we decided we had had enough! We had our last cleaning the week of May 11th., and yet the spa was still green. Luke, the only responsible person at the company, came out and treated the spa on that day after I had mentioned that it had been weeks since someone took care of it. Well, that week we were still having trouble after having it cleaned and I was informed by Luke that it just needed to be backwashed. Great! He was willing to do it, but they service manager was to charge us $70.00!! This after 10 months of insufficient service, a broken pump still going on 6 weeks and as a customer for 11 years!! I kindly declined his service to backwash and charge me as well. Also that week, I called to ask about the part that needed to be replaced and was told the week of the 11th., that it had been cancelled since I cancelled our cleaning service. So it was time for us to find a new company all together! If you are looking for a company to provide you with decent service, prompt repairs and experienced staff DON'T use Sean and his company!!! Go anywhere else but here!!! Also, one of their "tech's" came to our house today, May 28th and I was informed our entire pump needed to be replaced. I had our new service company come out and we need ONE part, and they will install it tomorrow since the stock the part!! I would NOT recommend The Pool Guy to anyone!! I would like to note that Luke apparently took the matter to Sean possibly, as he did call me back and offered to do it for free. Just wanted to share our experience with one of the companies in town that's contracted to do the warranty work on our pool pump. They did NOT do our pool install, but are an authorized company to warranty our type of pump. Our pump malfunctioned just before Christmas and we attempted to contact The Pool Guys to come take a look. We made multiple attempts to call the 'service guy' and each call would go to voicemail, with no return call. My husband then called the store, and was told that the service guys were in a different building so they couldn't help us. At some point we finally got a return call asking for our address (which they should have already had as it was left in the original messages) but no one ever came out to our house. At this point, we were VERY frustrated at the lack of customer service. Last Saturday, almost one week ago, we stopped in the store to speak with the owner. We were given a business card for the owner, Sean Hawthorne, so we gave him a call asking for help. Sean answered, he listened to my husband explain the situation, and then told us his service guys don't work on Saturday but he would look into it and call us back on Monday. He also said it could be that they were waiting on a part. But, no one ever came to our house to even put eyes on the pump, nor did they give us the courtesy of calling to let us know what the hold up might be. It's now Friday, and I haven't heard back from ANYONE. We'll likely never step foot in their store for our pool needs again and I'm truly shocked at the lack of customer service. We Had Sean and his company build us a pool in February of 2020, we chose him over other builders in town because of expertise and was really a no bs kinda guy and tried to sell you other things that other companies did, and for that we apricated very much, When Sean builds a pool he takes care of the Maintenance for the first year which was not expected, but great. In 2021 we had the bad winter storm, we were losing power for up to 10-15 hours a day for several days, in which caused some of our equip to be damage, no biggie, Sean and his team came out fixed what was needed, bypassed the heater (tank busted) and they got the pool up and running of course at our expense. after several months go by, we finally got the parts to fix the heater and all was fine, so we thought. This is were everything starts go really bad. so summery is here and pool activity is happening, and we notice that the water features are not working correctly, so we call them back out. after several calls and attempts to fix we finally got it working. so Labor Day is approaching and were having a get together and, on that Thursday, we notice our pool is turning green, it turned so bad that the pool had to scrubbed with a wire broom to get the green algie off. (we had Sean and his company servicing our pool weekly on a monthly bill that ranged from 150-250) come to find out, the tech was not showing up to clean the pool or check chemicals the previous weeks, so we had to cancel our Labor Day weekend activities. but we also got billed for the full month of service and chemicals to bring the pool back. we also had door clingers when they performed service, that said couldn't complete the cleaning, ran out of time!! on multiple occasions, but we got billed as usual So finally, we got this handled and thought all was good, come January 2022 the wife wants to use the hot tub, so we fire it up, after a while we notice that it keeps rolling over the waterfall into the pool, it hasn't pulled down to keep the hot tub circulating with in itself, and that the temp in the hot tub wasn't getting to what it was supposed to. So, another call to get them out there to fix and they do come and fix it. again, we used the hot tub and it seems to be working fine, not overflowing in the pool all seems well. We start to notice its getting very hot, but temp is only set at 95. so i turn the hot tub of let it cool and turn back on. Next business day call and explain again what it is doing, they come out a few days later and call me and say that the temp sensor on the hot tub wasn't connected back in the pipe when the plumber they sent out to reconnect the new heater in after freeze. so now after all this wife is happy her hot tub is working like is supposed to. A few days go by and my neighbor calls me says i have a huge water leak coming from the side of my house, he checks it and finds my pool empty, this happened right there tech came to clean it, completely drained the pool, they paid for refill, but i was charged for all the chemicals to get it right so we use it a couple of times (2-3 max) over the next 7-10 days, i get a call one morning saying where out of propane, ok no biggie, so i make a call and get it filled at the sum $948.00 worth. Well, another 12 days go by, she calls me again said were out of propane, another $952.00, so $1900.00 worth of propane in 12 days. So the propane ppl come out did a leak check and said we have no leak and our history with them is allmost 2 fillups a year, he asked if we had been using the hot tub alot, we had not, he asked if the heater is on for the pool by chance, went and looked at the control pannel, and the pool heater was on and set on a schedule to come on and go off when the pool pumps came on, the temp to the pool was set at 72 degrees, we had no idea nor did we go into and turn this on to a schedule. So i make a call to their office and explain what had happened with the propane issue, very little help from them, Sean finally calls me and he was polite, but pretty much said he wasn't taken any responsibilities for the propane, that his techs had no reason to turn the heater on the pool, but your guys were out here a few weeks ago fixing the hot tub because it wasnt coming up to temp. still he didn't care all i asked for him to do was take care of one propane bill, not both just one. so, i refused to pay our bill, he sent an email demanding payment and threatening turning over to collections or small claims court. We sent him a detailed email of problems we had with service, there response was there will be no more Communcation, they turned it over to collections, we informed the agent of legal actions and she quit calling, we got another threatening email from Sean, so i dropped of his payment with a copy of his bill and the issues we had, he cashed the check, and so here i am posting a review I would not recommend his company to any one. poor customer service read more

Sean and his Company, The Pool Guy, are not a good business' of good business practices, after 3 years of building our pool, we have major issues and he does not stand behind his work, (need to read my google review), this post is a follow up with Sean after we had another company come and find out what our issues are and i contacted Nichole and explained our issue again and what was found that needs to be resolved( our pool& spa is leaking water out the lights ) and Nichole said she would talk to Sean, its been 3 weeks and no contact. i would Definity not recommend Him for any new pool construction or pool maintenance . he may do a good job on most, but im one of the ones that has an issue with his work, his teams service, getting billed for service not done. Surprised by some of these negative reviews... We have had Pool Guy service for a year. Mike is here every week without fail - he is prompt and does and excellent job. I have noticed he is very patient with training others when they accompany him. Mr. Variste is also prompt with invoicing/billing and communication. I have visited the store and was treated with courtesy, respect, and dignity. This appears to me to be a very fair and honest business. I would not hesitate to recommend them. read more

I am very disappointed in how our pool was left for the Thanksgiving weekend. The technician did not even go into the backyard. We pay monthly and our pool is cleaned on Wednesday each week. The Pool Guy's name fits the company well. You never know who's going to show up. Do not waste your money on this business. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. About all the hands do is hang the tag on the door saying the pool was serviced and the hands of the owner take your money. I put up with their poor service for way too long. The guys that service the pool and equipment apparently have NO training. They do not know how to run the equipment and will ruin it. Don't waste your money with The Pool Guy. It truly pains me to write this. We used them for maintaining our pool for the past two years. The first year was fine, no issues. Over the past 9 months we've been left without maintenance twice, once for two weeks and another time for three weeks. When I called to inquire, the statement was always one of surprise, like "Oh? Have we not been out to service your pool?" I'd say their scheduling and tracking of maintenance leaves a bit to be desired. The straw which broke my back and caused me to cancel service had to do with a repair. While I was out of state for an extended work issue my wife took in the Aquapod remote controller to have it fixed. Three weeks went by, still no remote. The excuse provided was that the battery was difficult to access. She finally got it back after they allegedly replaced the battery ($50) but it still wouldn't hold a charge. I took a look at it a few weeks ago and found that the remote had never been opened so the battery had never been replaced. After I carefully opened it and replaced the battery the remote works just fine. I cancelled service earlier this week after finding a new pool service to maintain the pool. The Pool Guy maintenance manager assured me via voicemail that the cancellation would take effect immediately and that they would not service the pool this week. However, someone showed up yesterday and was finishing up when I got home from running errands. He misaligned the valves and/or reprogrammed the PLC because after he left the attached hot tub drained into the pool and the pump was cavitating. Fortunately I heard the pump and shut off the system to preclude damage. I let it restart today and the system immediately started pumping the hot tub into the pool, which tells me that the guy who did the service yesterday left something misaligned. The Pool Guy managed to fail us one final time. I do NOT recommend this company. read more

Pool Maintenance: We have used this company for over five years while out of town, This year we installed cameras on the property, covering the drive, front and rear entrances and the pool for security purposes. Service Request, two week period The first week service provided, the maintenance individual arrived at the house, walked around the pool and observed but did not check anything (12 minutes total), left a card on the door stating he had checked chemicals, skimmer baskets and vacuumed the pool. The second service, the maintenance individual arrived at the house, placed a card on the door and drove off (4 minutes total), did not even see the pool. Again, left a card on the door stating he had checked the chemicals, pool equipment and skimmer baskets. If the individual had performed the services as stated on the cards there would be no objection and we would be glad to pay for services rendered. We provided the company with videos and cards ( The Pool Guy Store ) and they were to get back with us. To date we have inquired on three separate accounts, feeling we should not have to pay for services not performed. We received a letter from the The Pool Guy, demanding payment of ($75.78) or being turned over to collections with an additional reference to their company policy. Direct Quote: they claim that if the cleaner arrives and the pool is clean and chemicals are good there is no need to spend time at the residence. I believe that In order for the cleaner to determine this he has to physically see the pool to access and perform functions as stated on the cards left on the door. We are paying to avoid further inconvenience but remain strong on principle that their service practices are misleading and their employee(s) actions are fraudulent (claiming performance of service in writing without conducting the services). The only positive thing I can say is the design is nice. The construction workers had no care about keeping the area even somewhat clean. The biggest issue was that they cut the coping stone under the patio right up against the house. Never cleaned up so windows, door, ceiling fans etc.. were loaded with stone dust. Pain in the @$$ to clean. Only thing the Pool Guy had to say was, "oh sorry". After the pool was filled and useable they had to install a yard drain between house and patio. Well the workers decided to use the edge of the coping to clean the bottoms of their boots off. Mud all in the pool. Pool guys comment "well that's Dutch diggers for ya". Really?! They're his guys! After we started using the pool I noticed some real rough and darker areas on the walls and a couple of spots on the bottom. Contacted him multiple times and it still isn't fixed after over a year of having the pool. Also started getting staining on the plaster in less than a year. I normally don't do reviews, but for the money I paid for the pool i expected a lot more. If I wouldn't have paid cash I would not be making payments until I was satisfied. Live and learn on that one! There is plenty more I could say, but this is already to long. I would never recommend The Pool Guy. Everyone I talk to I let them know this. This store located at: 2151 Harvey Mitchell Pkwy S, College Station, TX 77840. I've used their repair service for several years, they started off responsive and reliable to repair request and I bought all of my supplies from their store. Have a new service manager, and service sucks! This summer, 2018, they cleaned my pumps filters and did not follow instructions on where to clean, somehow managed to spread DE all over the side of my house and including windows, left a huge mess for me to clean up, no response to my calls. Recently, I called to replace one of the lights, was patiently waiting, periodically calling every few weeks to find when it would be completed, service manager kept saying we'll get to it this week. two months later it's still not done, and now need a valve replaced too, same old story, promise and no work. I called the store to speak to the owner, who then spoke with the service manager, and within 30 minutes had called me back to schedule the work. The repair guy no showed. Contacted owner again, no response. Dont waste your time with these folks, they are just too busy for my business! read more

A hispanic man walked in speaking very little spanish came into the the store looking to have a pool built. He didnt speak much english but was trying to tell them that he was wanting a pool and that he had cash. The store owner and employee couldnt understand him and didnt even try to figure out what he was saying , so they handed him an application for employment. The racist pigs dont deserve your buisness go to another company and get your moneys worth. I was standing in the store watching this happened and am appauhled by the way they handled this.
