Wandering around Old San Juan, I turned into a storefront gallery because I was caught by a poet's print out front, "Stop: You own this moment", which it turns out is by Lady Lee Andrews, owner of the shop. The longer I wandered, the more items I loved, coming away with her work in the form of two prints and a book of poetry, several cards and a few stickers, as well as a watercolor print onto a tile of Los Tres Reyes by her Nico Thomassin. But it wasn't just the items, the entire place felt warm and welcoming, Lady Lee herself was a gem, and there's an airy, decorated studio space in the back for writing in. According to the sign, on Tuesdays they have an open mic of some kind. If I lived closer I would spend a lot of time here. read more

What a lovely art gallery in the middle of Old San Juan. My husband and I went to lunch and stumbled upon it while we were sight seeing. We love art (and we were in dire need of air condition). We walked in and were greeted and then directed through the exhibition , and ended up in a lovely little gift shop. The exhibition was so beautiful, and very moving. We loved it, and ended up buying a canvas print for our home. There was lots to see in the gift shop, related to both the exhibit and unrelated. We were then invited back to open mic the following evening. I would have enjoyed that, but we were leaving town that day. Anyway, if you like art, when exploring Old San Juan, I recommend checking out the Poet's Passage. read more

The "Time Will Tell " poem in the front led me in and I'm so glad. The art in here was so so beautiful and the poetry warmed my heart. Their art gallery is beautiful and full of colorful paintings. They host an awesome open mic every Tuesday from 7 pm to midnight. The Poet's Passage was one of my favorite places we visited in San Juan. As a writer (both for fun and professionally), I loved reading the poems on the different items in this shop and seeing the prints in the art gallery. The shop is beautifully decorated and offers lots of great gifts or souvenirs to take home. My husband purchased several prints for our home, and the staff members were nice. The shop has a coffee shop next door, and we didn't get a chance to try it on our visit, but it seems like a fun place to hang out, grab a coffee, and listen to a poetry reading. read more

Stumbled across this shop from one of their pieces they had displayed on the window ... not knowing I'd find the perfect pieces for my outdoor garden. The two girls that were working in the shop were one of the nicest people I have met on this island! I wish I could've made it to the open mic they hold every Tuesday @ 7pm but I was still able to walk away with a piece that she picked for me in memory of my grandma that almost had me bawling in tears... it was perfect.. People from expert to novice got on the mic for poetry, spoken word, short songs, instrumental pieces, self-made beats, interpretive dancing, and much more! Tuesdays are open mic nite. This was definitely a different experience that I'm glad I didn't miss out on. Surprisingly, they were serving lasagne at the cafe there and it was delicious for only $5 or $6 too. Soon as I posted that I moved on Instagram everyone told me I had to visit this little gem - so I did. I stopped by yesterday (Thursday August 26, 2021) the vibe was everything I hoped and more. Quiet - with beautiful music playing through out. I was able to roam about freely and just enjoy the atmosphere. I picked up the latest book by Lady Lee Andrews entitled, "Me" and enjoyed some small talk with the young lady behind the counter (who not only recommended the book but invited me back poetry night on Tuesday.) All in all a great visit, my only disappointment is the cafe is closed so I couldn't hang out vibe and make some beats like I planned. None the less great place for sure and I'll be back. read more

Out of all the places I have visited in Puerto Rico my favorites were Flamenco Beach, and The Poet's Passage. It is best described as a gallery of words and art, a live museum that is ever changing and evolving, and the entire place is packed with love, creativity and beauty. I stopped by this store/cafe after seeing it bookmarked with outstanding reviews on Yelp and wanted to see what all the hype was about. This review is just for the arts and craft store since I had already ate breakfast and didn't check out the cafe part. As soon as I walked in the store I was warmly greeted by the staff. The store had an amazing selection of different life quotes that were inspiring and funny. I enjoyed the miniature photos and pieces of local doors of Puerto Rican culture. There were a lot of unique souvenirs to choose from and the prices were very reasonable. They had a small area in the back for poetry slams on Tuesdays and had I known I would've definitely checked it out. It was the beginning of my day so I didn't buy anything to avoid carrying it the entire day. I meant to go back and purchase something for me but got caught up in being a tourist. :-) I will definitely come back and support this business the next time I'm in town. read more

What a really cool place to explore in Old San Jaun! This inviting & totally charming shop offered a bit of everything. Beer, wine, soda, scrumptious sugary desserts, memorabilia, original poems & other assorted items. It is the type of store you can enter and hours latter still find something you had not seen. The vibe was cool and laid back. The atmosphere was alive and had a feeling of wonderlust. These are the little places I love to find while traveling! Ha! Great recommendation by our CouchSurfing host. It is conveniently located right across one of the main plazas. The Poet's Passage is not only cutesy but its coffee also stands to its cuteness. The names of different types of coffees are lyrical and poetical (hence, the name). Everything is a "sonnet," a "metaphor," etc. The place is decorated similar to how a modern cafe in Paris might feel like. Other pluses about The Poet's Passage: uber-friendly baristos, free wi-fi, comfortable couches, ample plugs (for charging laptops and miscellaneous electronics), and - of course - outstanding coffee. They also serve the local beer on tap. Beer and coffee all in one place?! Unheard of! We've been coming here at least once a day since we've arrived in Puerto Rico and we've been happy every time. I love this place. When you think local, this is exactly where you want to go...Everything made and grown locally. The first time visiting Puerto Rico was in 2008 and I fell in love with the painted ceramic doors. Bright colors, full of local flavor and house made. Couldn't ask for a better souvenir. Fast forward to 2013 and when we went back to the corner where the owner (Nico) was originally located, it was shut down and boarded up...GASP. I looked up and down the streets and was almost teary eyed that I couldn't go back home with a new souvenir to add to our collection. I really couldn't understand how a family owned store could go down in flames to the local Walgreen's/Pharmacy. It was an extremely depressing thought. But, we were lucky and overheard someone talking about coffee and local gifts at the Poet's Passage so we thought to head over there to find something new to go home with and VOILA! The owner moved locations and has expanded into new industries. I'm so happy! Huge fan of Nico's work and really happy to see all of his success. I will definitely be going back there on our next visit to PR. read more

What a wonderful shop and creative space. From floor to ceiling are beautiful poems by locally famous poet, Lady Lee Andrews, on canvas, tile, poster, bound print, etc. Each touched my soul in a different way and when it came time to leave the store could not bear to choose just one. Some had me laughing, others had me crying, but all were very personal, I have already been on the website to try and make a selection for family gifts. The shop itself is a beautiful space including artwork by other local artists from pottery to giclee prints by Nico Thomassin, there is also a wonderful creative space toward the back for tapping into your artsy genius. The building hosts a poetry collective every Tuesday night and is owned by a local artist so the space has art pumping through its veins. The art gallery space is full of original art of all price ranges so anyone can take something home with them. The coffee shop is warm and comfortable with several food options that are both heathy and traditional. The menu is diverse and health conscious. A wonderful place to spend a lazy afternoon.
