Thought it was some kind of glitch in the system when I saw I haven't yet posted a review of the Pet Place in Boone. I have been coming here for 5 years, to span two different dogs and many different dog and cat friends. While a little pricier than other options in the area, this pet store is stocked with items that are well vetted and understood by the owners and employees personally. Every employee can provide genuine input and assistance into any pet related needs whether it's food, treats, harnesses or clothing, toys, etc. There are many familiar faces that have stayed working here over the years, which is always a plus. I also love what they do for the community, helping police dogs and sponsoring little events, such as around the holidays where they give free treats and coupons or other items. Follow their social media to stay up to date! There is a bath you can use (I haven't used it yet but have almost needed to so many times) where they provide all the materials and do the clean up. It's on a first come first serve basis, but you can always call to gauge how busy it is. Student discounts offered only on certain days. Not best budget for broke students but the assurance I have with the quality of the items (esp food) I'm buying for my dog is worth it. read more

I used to spend between $200-300 every month at Pet Place when I was in town. Today, they MADE me purchase two packages of very expensive treats because my male dog marked them. THEY WERE IN SEALED HARD PLASTIC CONTAINERS! I am an ultra responsible and ultra clean dog owner. Had my dog peed on unpackaged items or on anything that would be ingested by another animal - no matter how expensive - I absolutely would have paid for them with no complaint. But these "sale" items (which they did discount from 25% to 50%), placed on a bottom shelf near door were completely SEALED in hard plastic! A wipe down with a little diluted bleach, and they would have been fine. And, their windows are COVERED with signs about shoplifting, local events, promos etc - no word of this policy though. No common sense and horrible treatment of a once good customer. I will never shop here again. UPDATE: just thought I'd share screenshots of 3 messages I received from Paul T over the course of a MONTH after posting my review. The Pet Place has a partnership with the Watauga Humane Society that gifts a 'bundle' to new pet parents. Holy smokes. I walked out with almost $80 worth of free product including dry and wet food, litter, treats, and a refrigerated supplement. The employee who helped me was super knowledgeable about their inventory and was able to suggest options to me as a new cat owner. And she saved me time when shopping for my dog because she knew what was/wasn't in stock. I was a little nervous because I'm not an expert, but the customer service was incredibly friendly and informative! read more

Don't shop there. They aren't taking any returns. I bought a 65 dollar wormer when I couldn't get a hold of my vet. 5 minutes later I did and was able to get the wormer from them for much less. I went in to return it and was refused. I hadn't even left the parking lot. No one informed me of no returns when they were taking my 65 dollars. Go to pet supplies plus. My Norfolk Terrier was in need of high quality dog food without fillers. A good friend recommended this wonderful Pet Shop and we were thrilled with a very positive experience. Sandy, an owner greeted my dog and me with glee. She brought us to the dry food aisle, per my request, showing us several selections. I bought 2 large bags. Next were a non pull harness, toys, treats and kibble training treats. Sandy adjusted the new harness with the assistance of Amber, another very pleasant shop associate. Just passing thru on our way to Maine, and our pooch needs thorough clean after many months on the road. Because of the good reviews here, so we did a swing-by for nail trimming and shampooing. Good thing that the trained vet/groomer available that day to take care of our fidgety and sensitive pooch paws. Which she did very job to keep our pooch nails in check, as well as know to keep our pooch comfortable (we been through some "qualified groomers" along the way that don't know jack). And the nice clean shower room! The shower stall can be raised to accommodate our small pooch as well as plenty of hot shower, smell good shampoo, hot air blower, clean towels to make our pooch brand new again. Nail trimming for $6 and shower for $14. We are the The Pet Place fan now! read more

They will special order items, help you find the item you're looking for, and they really care about your pet. I have nothing but praise for this business. I went into this shop because I was looking for some items my pets need and to pick out some toys for them. I have a medical condition that prohibits me from wearing a mask, and informed the employee at the door of this. While I was examining an item, a mask was shoved under my nose by another employee. I calmly stated that I had a medical condition and the employee rudely informed me that I could either put a mask on, or be served outside. Due to the nature of what I was shopping for, being served outside was not an option. The shop was JAM PACKED with no social distancing being enforced. If this was about health, social distancing would have been enforce. I was discriminated against because of a medical condition that prohibits me from wearing a mask, and made an "example" of. I will NEVER shop at this store again, and will inform my friends not to either. Another business can have my money. read more

We are from Florida and drove to Virginia to adopt a dog. We stopped at the Pet Place on the way back to purchase our first collar/leash combo and some new toys. The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in properly fitting our new pup with their great selection of Lupine collars. We now come here each summer when visiting the area and have had the same level of excellent customer service each time Great selection of healthy chews and treats as well. read more

I don't go anywhere else for dog food and dog treats. Everything is healthy and natural and the employees are always willing to help you find the perfect food for your pet. My puppy was really sassy when getting his nails clipped and even bit the lady who was clipping them and she was extremely nice about everything. Also I'm not sure you'll find another place who does nails for only $5. I'm soooo thankful to have a pet store like this right down the road.
