BECAUSE I already have a mortgage with them, I cannot open a checking account. Hours on the phone with customer service and the result is "only by visiting a branch can you get cleared to open an account" For a senior citizen, living in assisted living without a car, visiting the branch is, to say the least, challenging. Chase touts their accessibility, but that is all talk and no action. I was told years ago, in business to "under promise and over deliver" Chase online banking does just the opposite. They overpromise and under-deliver.

I had to get a rather obscure and confusing financial document certified and the wonderful folks at Member's Choice were totally willing to figure out what needed to be done and help me out and did not even charge me anything for the service. One reason we are here is our debit cards do not get high charges when we use ATMs in other countries. It is the small things which add up. I understand there are often holds on checks. I never had a problem and my accounts are sometimes not active as I have several. Terminating long inactive accounts is standard practice and part of the terms one checks into if one is older and experienced. "Inactive" accounts probably do have statements but they may be paperless so they must be checked. I find their online banking as good as any of several I have used. I have not used their phone app.

There have been multiple occasions in the last few years when I've been charged an insufficient funds fee of $30 when I have, in fact, had more than enough funds to cover the bill in question. Usually this has happened when I've just been paid and the amount has shown up as being in my account when I logged onto the website, but somehow the money wasn't there when I paid whatever the bill was. This just happened to me again this week. And on both occasions when I inherited money after my parents died, they took an inordinate amount of time, several weeks, to release all the money from large checks I received. Do NOT do business with this institution. You're better off with a regular bank or some other credit union.

IUCU helped us create a new account after we were victims of a hack. Our information was…read morepotentially compromised so we had to close the account we had with them for about 50 years. They put our account on hold and in two days had a new account set up. The customer service was excellent and provided us with all the information we needed about who to contact to provide our new account information. They also set it up that any ACH debit and credit accounts that we used would automatically be honored on our new account for 60 days, giving us plenty of time to make the switch. We have always been treated with friendly, courteous service and recommend them to everyone looking for a credit union in this area (Indiana).
