Both a great, historical place to work and also a museum with well done, creative displays throughout the building. Walking the halls brings a sense of pride and humil

We got into DC later than anticipated, had dinner and decided to go to the 9/11 memorial. At first we kind of just walked around and looked at the names and then realized there was a walking tour. We had the place to ourselves and my son and I did the walking tour at night . It really gave some inside information into the people, the numbers on the walls and the pentagon. It's a somber place but a nice memorial.

Perfect spot to watch the fireworks. Never thought of it before, we normally go downtown but didn't feel like it this year and traffic was horrible. Perfect location due to all hwys being accessible. Plenty of open spaces, parking was free.

Big important building. Go on a tour some time to see inside. It should be checked out by anyone at some point. Forget bringing cameras. The Pentagon doesn't let you take any pictures. Go online to schedule a tour of the inside. It takes a couple hours to go through it. The biggest bummer is they don't allow photography. No need to bring cameras. Outside the building is pretty much okay but try not to let the security see you. Inside the only place you can take a picture is for the fake podium. This is a time to act like an idiot tourist. Of course there's a charge. They also have a gift shop of overpriced souvenirs. It sucks getting to but it has a Metro station at the public entrance. Parking is for the employees only. There's also a bus stop.

The pedestrian tunnel from the Pentagon City Mall

The tour request process initiated sev weeks ago was easy enough, but we didn't get confirmation until Thurs (3 days ago). Not a big deal, but for "planning types" like myself, I nervously checked my email daily, wondering if I was going to need a Plan B. My group of 4 decided we'd eat before our tour, so we went to the Pentagon City Mall food court, esp since we knew there's a pedestrian tunnel connecting the mall to the Pentagon. FYI, it's not very obvious where the tunnel is, but Guest Services at the mall informed us to go out the Macy's door & look across the parking lot to see the tunnel. Once thru, it's not obvious where tourists are supposed to go, so after walking around the perimeter, we stopped a soldier who kindly directed us to what we later learned is the River Entrance. Our email stated that we should arrive 1 hr prior to ensure time to go through security. They also state to arrive in time to look through the gift shop & take pictures at the replica podium, seen in press conferences. We took this to mean arrive even earlier to accommodate both. When we found our entrance, the guard checked our ID, then said we would be allowed in at 1:05 p.m. & that the group representative would need to show the confirmation email when we entered. It was then we realized that the "1 hour prior" in the email includes BOTH the security check & the gift shop/pictures. Oh, well. At 1:05 p.m. exactly, we entered where we were immediately instructed to individually show our photo ID to the employee behind the window. I asked this guard if I need to get my email ready on my phone to show this window employee. He said no, photo ID only. I asked because the first guard said I would need to & there are also 137 signs in all caps about "NO PHOTOGRAPHY", so if I pulled my phone out, I wanted everyone to know why. Right away, they say my group was not on the list. I showed my email confirmation & he agreed it looked like we were clear, but we were not on the list. Finally, he found my name & said someone else had already highlighted it, as if we'd already toured. Who knows. Anyway, it was not fun - as I said, I'm a planner, so basically this was like my worst nightmare, having official looking people tell me that I'm not cleared or approved, after I've double/triple checked that all my i's are dotted & t's crossed. After this fun minor heart attack, we were told to proceed to the TSA style security check in the next room where the borderline-unfriendly-almost-rude security people snapped that we were to take off our vests/coats, empty pockets & do NOT step forward until instructed. I guess I understand: these people have important things to protect & they have to deal with a lot of dumb people on a daily basis. More on that in a moment. After security check, we were allowed in the waiting room with the podium & gift shop, which is extremely small portion of the waiting area. However, they do have displays of the five branches of the military, which was cool, especially for veterans. There are also restrooms & water fountains here. We looked around, took our pictures, then waited. At the beginning of the tour, we were directed into a theater, where I felt certain we were going to watch an introduction video, but they were simply reviewing the rules of the tour. Stay together, let the Pentagon employees have room to pass in the hallways, stay to the right on the escalators to allow them to pass if needed, & no talking or translating to others during the tour. Yeah. Right. There was this one family who talked INCESSANTLY in German to each other during the entire tour. We could barely hear the guide because it was so distracting. There was also another woman, who randomly joined our tour after it began (I think she worked there?), who talked non-stop to another woman in the group. I kept hoping the 2 Pentagon guides would tell them to be quiet, but they did not. Add to this two crying babies and you have a walking tour of the Pentagon in which we heard almost nothing from the guides. It was a fast-paced tour & you're not allowed to see much (I believe they said we covered 8% of the building), but it was still good to see the different sections devoted to the 5 branches, as well as the interior memorial to the 9/11 terror attack. It's a wonderful special room, very moving. The outside memorial is very unique & also moving. Overall, I'm glad we went & I like that we can say we've been there. Taking into consideration the sensitive nature of their business, they do a good job with the tour, but the lack of signage directing visitors & communication mixup at the beginning (Present your email, no don't, wait yes we need to see it...) was frustrating. I won't hold the annoying, rude, & completely self-absorbed visitors against them, even though they definitely put a damper on the visit. The 9/11 Memorials were the best. I would recommend this tour.

Amenities - None of the outlets for the desks work, and the molding on them prevents most stuff being plugged in anyway. I had to crawl under the table and remove the desk plus and use the floor plugs directly. Setting - Terrible, the staff do nothing to enforce a good library setting conducive to reading and studying. It's always incredibly loud, lots of screaming kids, and just obnoxious people talking full volume, laughing out loud, or big meeting groups humming around. They let homeless people sleep and malinger around all over the place and it STINKS. Cleanliness - Disgusting, the floors and surfaces are always very dirty and the bathrooms are third world. Shit smeared everywhere, USED TP all over the place, broken soap dispensers off the walls never replaced, never any paper towels, etc. I also witnessed a homeless guy doing drugs off the sink. Comfort - Need more comfy seating. Only a few soft seats and none with feet support or reclining. Most of the chairs are very hard and the desks/tables are set too low. In planning the trip, which began about a year prior, we were recommended through a friend to use Asimina Tours; we were put in contact with Dimitri. Right away, Dimitri worked very closely with us to find out what we were interested in seeing, how long we were looking to stay in Italy, and what our budget was. From there, Dimitri, along with his partner Christina, put together an amazing package that allowed us to see all the sights. We went to Venice, Como, Milan, Florence, Rome, and Sorrento. Along the way, we had many day trips, the majority of which were fantastic. From Pisa, Siena, Lucca, Cinque Terre (a favorite), the Vatican, Pompeii, the Amalfi Coast, and Capri, it was a once in a lifetime experience and we had the most amazing time. Other highlights of the trip were the wine tasting in Tuscany and the private cooking class in Sorrento. They were also very accommodating with some last minute trip ideas. About 2 months prior to leaving, I had learned that one of my favorite bands, Queens of the Stone Age, were going to be performing in Italy while we were there. We contacted Dimitri and he was able to rearrange our hotel and travel accommodations, including a last minute domestic flight, without any issues. Dimitri and Christina made the entire process run smoothly. All of our travel tickets and hotel reservations were all available through the app. Our hotels were centrally located and were within walking distance from the major attractions. We really appreciated the private transportation arrangements to take us from the hotels to the train stations/airports, as well as the private tours. If you are planning on going to the Mediterranean area of Europe, I would highly recommend using Asimina Tours, they were awesome.

The quality and detail involved in the instruction here is superb - you feel like you're being given all of the information you need, from the basics to more complex properties of the helicopters. There was no point where I felt like the information was overwhelming or over-simplified: it seemed like the right mix of education and beginner's instruction. As for the flight, it's a blast! While I was far from talented at piloting the helicopter, I was given quite a lot of control over time, and I felt increasingly comfortable as time went on.
