I was choosing a souvenir t shirt to buy. She stormed off, to the cash register, & I heard her grumbling about messing up the t-shirts, and saying "I have to fold every goddamn t-shirt!" She snarled at me, & said she tried to help me, but I wouldn't listen, & she didn't appreciate me "messing up" her t-shirts. I only looked at 2 of them, and she acted like I ransacked the whole table. I told her that I'm a customer, & she shouldn't talk this way to me, & that I'm not buying anything due to her bad attitude. So, it's definitely not a "welcome" center. These towns along Rt. 66, get visitors from all over the world, especially now, with the 100 year anniversary. The Rt. 66 Welcome center could improve by having someone who is pleasant, and helpful, to provide information about Tucumcari, so travelers can plan their time there. So, skip this place, if you're looking for souvenirs. Some of the restaurants (like Del's) and the vintage motels have gift items that they sell. Or, try the Curio shop across the street.

A giant fiberglass cowboy greeted me out front, towering over three old Cadillacs with Elvis, Willie Nelson, and John Wayne riding shotgun. Inside, the shop was packed with T-shirts, Route 66 trinkets, and spray paint cans ready for tagging the nearby cars. It had just the right mix of cheesy charm and roadside magic. Friendly folks, clean restrooms, and a perfect stop before heading to the main attraction. Pure Texas fun with a side of glitter and grit.

I just came from Silverland's and I was ignored by two sales ladies but one watched me as if she thought I was stealing something.
