This is a review regarding the dining experience in the Strand Bistro which is inside the New Inn…read morePub. We did have a drink in the pub a few days earlier, when we enjoyed the local beers, and the bar staff were very welcoming and friendly, as they were again today. When we enquired about having dinner, the bar staff went to check and then took us into a room immediately behind the bar. It was a lovely room where we had a corner table. There was a door leading to, I presumed, the conservatory dining area and the gardens beyond. The menu was printed on an A4 sized paper back to back. There was actually a lot of choice. For a bistro, I feel the prices were a little on the high side, but reasonably priced as a normal restaurant. Our meal was fresh and well cooked, and the service was prompt and pleasant and friendly. Overall a nice enough place to dine out in.

Its a rare find out of its bottle. It has a very nice caramel flavour and is a quite strong 6pc. When I fancied something weaker there was the always excellent Proper Job, so even though I liked the place so much I came back on 3 consecutive nights I still didn't get to any of the other beers (Bass, Tribute and Trelawny).

We reserved the room and arrived 10 minutes later so the reservation hadn't filtered through to the bar area (out of hours check-in). We were instantly greeted by a member of staff who was so welcoming and helpful. We checked in and were taken to our room which was clean, spacious and surprisingly bigger than some we have stayed in that cost more. The 4 poster bed was lovely, bathroom was huge and for the first time this week, we had a working bath larger than a small puddle. What really did it for us was the quality of the food. We had a nap upon arrival and came down for dinner shortly before the restaurant closed. To be honest, having stayed at a few places similar on our road trip this week, we weren't expecting much. How wrong were we. The food was phenomenal. The portion sizes were huge but it was brilliant food. The steak was cooked to perfection and was good quality, the chicken was moist and put together beautifully. We spent the evening in the bar area where the prices were extremely cheap. Service was pleasant, the atmosphere was so relaxed and it was just the change of pace we needed. We were able to add our bill from the restaurant to our room charge and settle up in the morning following breakfast. Again, the food was so much better than I expected for a small establishment in what felt like the hidden parts of Cornwall. I couldn't recommend staying here any higher and I know that we will be coming back regardless of how far out of our way it might be in the future.

Food from the restaurant was top notch as well (I had a Tikka Masala curry, only gripe would be slightly small serve - my companion had the Steak, mushroom and ale pie). Didn't spend much time in the bar unfortunately, but they had a local band playing that night so good to see some entertainment put on. Couldn't hear the band from the room so wasn't too rowdy. Brekky was made to order which meant it was good quality (other Inns on this trip have had buffet which means potentially old/stale food). Traditional English brekky had all you could ask for - egg, sausage, bacon, mushies and beans. Companion had smoked kippers which were nice.
