My history includes a misaligned jaw that ultimately caused multiple progressive dental issues. Dr. Chernoff recommended an orthodontist, who in turn recommended a maxilofacial surgeon. The three developed a plan of care which was successfully carried out over the next two and a half years. Two surgeries later, after braces, I am ecstatic with the results. I no longer chew on one side, the tension in my facial muscles is gone, my jaws align properly, and I have straight teeth! A miracle of careful collaboration between the dentist, surgeon, and orthodontist, and great expertise and execution by all. More recently, as Dr. Chernoff reduced his office hours, I transferred to Dr. Kaltchev. I am absolutely delighted with his work. He has addressed cracked teeth, receding gums, implants, and more. Dr. Chernoff could not have selected a better partner; Dr. Kaltchev has diagnostic expertise coupled with aesthetic and technical ability in addition to being highly personable. What a find! Don't even think of going anywhere else if you want top-drawer care. Nancy H-K

Dr. Alia is very meticulous and experienced. I took my daughter to see Dr. Alia for a 2nd opinion and unrelated to that visit, she asked me when my daughter had her last dental cleaning. It was about 1.5 weeks ago. Dr. Alia said to my daughter, I'm sorry, honey, I have to clean your teeth. I realized that her previous dentist did not properly clean her teeth. I was very thankful that she couldn't let my daughter leave the chair until her teeth were properly cleaned. She does an amazing job every time I see her for my 6 month check up. She also did my Invisalign. Funny, how many years of braces and wearing retainers every night would come to this, but it was my old Orthodontist who created a new retainer for me that created the issue. Long story short, I have Dr. Alia to thank for my straight teeth (again). Sarah, her assistant is very knowledgable and is amazing as she is. This office is very personable and you can tell that they love what they do. She's not running a franchise or have multiple dentist work for her. What you get, is her - all of her. As a plus, I love her pink gloves! Did I mention she won best Dentist of Wilmette on NextDoor...

After that, I got a recommendation from a friend (whose father and father-in-law were both dentists) to check out Dr. Dave McWhinnie at Smiles of Skokie. I am so glad that I went here. The office staff and hygienists were all super friendly. After visiting way too many sketchy dentist offices in strip malls around Chicago, their office and facilities were a breath of fresh air. New equipment, bright exam rooms and nice decorations. Dr. Dave is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and really does talk you through each step of the exam and appointment. He wants to make sure you don't feel any pain at all. I had one dentist who attempted to numb me with anesthetic 3 different times, and I could still feel the drill. Dr. Dave did it once and I was good and numb in no time - didn't feel a thing. Finding a dentist you like and trust is incredibly difficult, I think. But I can assure you that if you go and check out Dr. Dave at Smiles of Skokie - your search will be over. Hope your experience is as good as mine was.

Back in 2021 I left him in sadness and had to choose another dentist after his insurance person made a mistake while obtaining the coverage for a planned procedure - according to the estimate it was covered, but due to the mistake it was not (to be covered, it had to wait till the next billing year - which was not a problem, it was not urgent). When their claim was accordingly denied, they demanded that I pay the full price, $800, no concessions, no breaks, no middle ground, the estimate apparently did not matter anything. Fun fact: Dentistry is one of the most ancient medical procedures in the world, dating back to…read more7,000 B.C. Based on archaeological evidence, we know that humans who lived over 6,500 years ago had dental fillings. The ancient Sumerians used "magical incantations" & herbal remedies for toothaches, while the Aztecs used white ashes mixed with honey or rubbed their teeth with charcoal and salt to remove plaque and tartar! Why do I bring all this up in a Yelp review? Because dentistry isn't just a science; it's also an art. It's an ancient practice, and those who practice it exceptionally well are, in my opinion, nothing short of artists. Dental Matters is one of those rare practices. I had the great fortune of working with Dr. Laura Habeeb and her wonderful team. I came to Dental Matters after a highly disappointing experience at another dental office (across the street, actually!), where a filling had been done incorrectly and there were apparently problems with the planned placement of my crowns. Needless to say, I was feeling altogether discouraged & pretty hopeless. Switching to Dental Matters was an absolute game-changer. First, the administrative staff are incredibly kind, understanding, and knowledgeable. They really know their stuff! Sidra was especially amazing. Imran (dental assistant) was also wonderful, and Usman (dental assistant) in particular went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with my crowns. Usman spent over half an hour helping me design my crowns on a 3D screen. When I wasn't satisfied with the color of my permanent crowns, he helped me make adjustments through their in-house lab. How cool is that? Never once did he complain or make me feel difficult for asking questions. He simply listened, took my concerns seriously, and worked with me until I was happy with the result. But the true standout was Dr. Laura Habeeb. Dr. Habeeb doesn't just give dentistry 100 percent. She gives 200 percent! She is a true dental-artist, in every sense of the word. Not only is Dr. Habeeb extraordinarily intelligent and knowledgeable about all things dental (and I mean everything), but she's also a deeply empathetic person. She listens carefully, takes your concerns seriously, and consistently goes the extra mile. Even the tiniest adjustments mattered to her because she wanted my teeth to both feel good and look beautiful. And that's what makes dentistry such a fascinating art, in my opinion. Teeth are both functional & aesthetic. They can cause us pain, but they're also part of how we smile, speak, and present ourselves to the world. A truly phenomenal dentist understands both sides of that equation. If you're getting crowns or fillings done, or honestly any dental work done at all, I couldn't recommend Dr. Habeeb more highly. I'm so grateful I found Dr. Habeeb and her team. Dental Matters is truly a hidden gem, and I couldn't be happier with my experience!
