I visited The Penton House Barbershop on a Friday just before date night for straight razor shave…read more The location is great on 9th Ave and very close to Bayfront. There is free street parking and the street is fairly low on traffic. The inside has a nice feel and the area I was in felt like a traditional American barbershop shop. It felt nice and comfortable and a place you can feel at ease. The chair was very comfortable and fit me well. Amanda greeted me at the front reception area with a smile and escorted me to the chair. We talked about the service and what she was going to do. She shaped up my side burns first, the my beard and mustache, and finally a little eyebrow touch up. The eyebrow trim was a nice touch and a first with a shave. She then moved on to the shave. A hot towel was used with normal warm foam and of course a straight razor. She went over my entire face with expert ease. After done she did another hot towel and a nice wood scented aftershave. I had no irritation at all. A quick look in the mirror and touch and it felt good. I returned home and asked my wife to check me out. She gave me the touch test and agreed it was a good shave. One thing to know is that Amanda does smoke. If you are hypersensitive to smoke smell it might off putting. It did not bother me, but it as noticeable. Overall solid shave and a great place to visit. I will likely return for another shave.

Have been a loyal customer for several years. I have recommended them to probably 10-15 people over…read morethe years. I actually drive all the way from Alabama to come get a hair cut and a beard trim. Typically giving large tips because of the great service. Today my drive was delayed a few minutes because of July 4th traffic coming from an hour away, and also with it being a busy weekend it took a couple of extra minutes to find parking. I arrived exactly 10 minutes after my scheduled appointment time and was told I would have to reschedule because there was another appointment an hour after mine. I offered to shorten the appointment time and not get the beard done. My haircuts typically take about 25 minutes. No other explanation or reason was given. I have never heard of this policy from them and it very unfortunate that it had to be after driving over an hour in the middle of my workday to get a haircut. Wasn't a fan of the receptionist's customer service, and will sadly be finding a new place to get a cut.

The worst mistake I have made in years was trusting the barber who cut my hair. Instead of waiting on another barber that was highly recommend to me I read the reviews and figured I would give it a try even thou they were old reviews as a business owner Bob seemed very good at what he does. I called but Bob wasn't there. A lady told me to come in. I was thinking it must be his wife since she said they both have been cutting hair for over 30 years and it was a very small shop.. So I drove a hour to get there after spending hours looking online and calling around to see who was available. I arrived there and was greeted by the lady I spoke with. I sat down then was told for my next service to call her directly not the shop as she handed me a business card. Weird... but I said ok. I went over what I wanted since I've had the same stylist for 7 years in texas and was only in Florida for a month but I get my cut every week so it was time. She insured me that she knew what she was doing because she also teaches students how to cut hair. I honestly thought I was in good hands. I keep having to ask her to go back over areas and pointing out the lines she didnt fade correctly. I told her I wanted my bangs to be longer because I style them up with fiber and blow dry them to the side. I left with lines still in my hair and my bangs are completely gone. I look like a 14 year old kid. I'm 32! So you can imagine how mad I was. I went to the bathroom and washed all the hair off me because she used a kids Cape and I had hair on my shorts, all down my back and all over my face. I then noticed how bad my hair was because she keep me turned away from the mirror. So I tried washing it to see if it made a difference while dropping the F bomb because I was so upset. I then went outside and asked her to fix the lines and she got upset. So I said enough still seeing that she didn't fix the areas I asked but instead cut off more hair on top causing it to look stupid. I simply asked in detail with my fingers showing what area and what tools to use to do it correctly. She didn't do the areas I asked and used scissors instead of the comb and blade. Overall all I can say is stay away! I was charged $18 for my hair cut and $7 for my bread which wasn't even straight. That is why I asked for my bread to be trimmed because it's hard doing with a razor. I had already trimmed my bread that morning with my buzzer to match the length of my hair cut once I get it so I didn't look lazy. The sign says $13 dollars and I was told it would be $13 but was charged way more. Keep in mind my hair is cut with a zero then 1 then two and top is trimmed lightly with scissors and then textured. A very simple cut for a stylist so it should be nothing for a baber who has more hours of training. My stylist only has 12 years experience and has never left my hair the way it is now. I look and feel stupid. I work with high end clients daily and need to appear professional not like some kid who went to a $5 hair cut at walmart. Sadly it's done and now I need to find someone who can fix it.
