    1920s Chevrolet house car

The Murphy isn't a museum: it's a hobby... I think. From the scruffy gravel parking lot to the cluttered lobby to the tightly-packed collection of cars and model trains -- yep, model trains -- and toys stuffed into a corner, there's no scholarship on display as you would expect in a museum. That doesn't mean it's not worth a visit. Checking out this disorganized jumble was like tromping through an attic and there's enough on display to keep you here for an hour. A number of cars are restored to perfect condition, others are obviously daily drivers, one has an interior torn apart awaiting TLC, and a recumbent motorcycle sits disassembled on the floor. I had two favorites. I could look at the gorgeous grille of the 1934 Terraplane all day. A decrepit 1920s Chevrolet house car looks like it hasn't been touched since it first hit the road. It was fascinating to peek into the primitive interior of this early RV that looks as if someone still lives in it. I took pity on its almost nonexistent engine. I'm sure children would go nuts looking at the substantial model train setup here but I felt like I was intruding upon the old timers who were commandeering their tiny city. (Those little trains make a heck of a lot of noise, too.) Well, whatever this place really is, it was a fun time.

My cousin and I are big vintage lovers and when I heard about the vintage trailer show we hopped to it. I'm no expert when it comes to what an auto Museum is supposed to look like, but I thought it was put together well, the trailers and campers were far enough apart for people to walk around without bumping into each other and the vibe in this museum is very laid back and everyone was just so pleasant. There was a $10 entry charge to get in, and once inside they had several food trucks, one of them being Sweet Arleen's. The campers are well loved by their owners it's apparent in the work and detail they've put into them. My cousin went home and tried to get her husband on board, so far no luck. All in all this was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon!

    How awesome!

Just attended the new location on their second weekend being open! We were generously given two small gifts for our attendance. It is much smaller than their previous location, however, their cars are beautiful and so well-taken care of. Such a special place in Oxnard with wonderful history explained with each vehicle.

I wanted to stop by here on the way back down from San Luis Obisbo, but I was a passenger in my friends beautiful 1955 Pontiac Star Chief. Fortunately after I told them about this place, they agreed to stop, so we did! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard#CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ PARKING: They have their own private paved lot, so parking isn't a problem. HOURS: Saturdays 9am - 4pm, Sundays 10am - 4pm. April thru December only: Weds 6pm - 10pm & Fridays 10am - 4pm. They ask for a $9 donation per person, but it's not required for entry. Kids under 12 are free. They have 45+ vehicles on display, but there doesn't appear to be a particular "theme" as they have a little bit of everything. This collection consists of mostly American cars and ranges from a 1903 Oldsmobile, to a 1924 Chevrolet "Housecar" (an early RV/motorhome), to a number of Packards, 50's/60's/70's pickups, Corvettes, even a Maserati and Ferrari, up to the newest, a 2008 Shelby (Mustang) GT500KR. A few are not in pristine (museum quality) condition and others needed the dust wiped off, but they're still really neat to see! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard#QOpsLGKcI3Sel1cHV8l4Sg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard#BE0_vI_AL65_-jZ_KfIZQQ http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard#IRvS2R8DKK12RvLaNeaAWg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard#HSEpJRfviFkwag-mv071Rw http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard#hR3cgoTAMlYtdqglark2rA Aside from cars, there are also some cool old gas pumps, auto related artwork, toys / pedal cars and other memorabilia. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard?select=CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ#trfk5fodM8ib-1y1ptpF6A http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard?select=CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ#nV8mSutFQDwYjCzoKoTF8g http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard?select=CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ#HjFSeJ-ob0xVSjGgqzp8hA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard?select=CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ#xvcX2ESo20ujQeczN66zZQ During my visit they were also featuring some mid-century modern furniture - cool! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard?select=CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ#eH5t5AiGICVmAdUUlm8-bA http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard?select=CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ#Wjj21UMHEPeJxq1FRlOLuw Another thing that was really neat to see was the scale model train set up, run by the Gold Coast Modular Railroad Club! Their highly detailed set up covers 1800 sq ft, with multiple tracks and multiple trains running through very detailed little towns. Very fun and immediately brought out my inner child! http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard?select=CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ#A_2MvO4xY7GseMpSIWA-cg http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-murphy-auto-museum-oxnard?select=CadBXKEC3SX8AfN8qzFZgQ#dZUBdcNiN3x2jKtHJCBtfQ OVERALL: Another auto museum that's worth checking out when you're in the area!

A nice little museum with a number of unique cars (and a world class collection of Hot Wheels). All of which appear to be in running order (I'm speaking about the big cars, not the small ones). Adults were a reasonable $10 and kids were free (which was a nice bonus). We were told they just moved to this new location and are in the middle of a soft opening. Seems pretty polished to me. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable as to the specifics of each and every vehicle. David (the owner I am guessing) had to move some cars around and asked us if we'd like to ride along. We happily accepted. Can't say I've ever sat in a Studebaker Avanti, until today that is. I'm guessing this isn't something they usually offer up, but it was a nice gesture on what was a slow Sunday during a holiday weekend. They even gave my kids free keychains. All around nice folks. Highly recommend.

Great museum for vintage car enthusiasts! They had a really good variety of autos and you could get real close up on them (don't touch or get inside). We saw cars, campers, wagoneers and really enjoyed it. The nostalgia overload from the bikes and toys made it all a great morning. Really glad we checked it out and well worth the 9$ admission!

Now u know where it's at.

The limited hours of 9 to 12 on Saturday mornings hasn't worked for us in conjunction with other plans on the Oxnard Plain. I was glad to see that they were participating in Ventura County Farm Day, and staying open later than usual. We made it one of the definite stops we planned for the Farm Day activities. It was not what I expected. Good surprise! First, it's tucked into a neighborhood with green belts and a park, which gives a more spacious feeling than I was imagining. It's also not near any other farmland. What they do have is a number of vintage buildings, several plots where they're growing crops, some farm machinery, and more. There's a lot to take in visually. On Farm Day there was an added bonus that a gentleman was operating an old printing press, then giving away the bookmarks he made. They were literally "hot off the presses". He had a wry sense of humor, and it was fun visiting with him. We weren't able to pick up a stamp for the Passport 2 History program, as we never found the rep for the property. We were greeted by volunteers for the SEEAG group, the organization promoting Farm Day. Guess we'll have to go back to enjoy the surroundings one Saturday morning. I recommend this venue for families with kids, as there's lots to see, interesting backdrops for photos, and opportunities to talk about where food comes from, besides Ralph's!

Shout out to…read moreYelper All-Star Derek W. of Lakewood, CA for inspiring me with his awesome photos and experiences! The challenge I'm finding is parks being open through the week, when we (ahem) "more mature folks" like to enjoy less crowds. So when I saw Heritage Square in Oxnard was open, with possible docent tours, on a TUESDAY, I jumped on the opportunity to partake of some local history. We headed for the Square and saw some parking but, being a first timer, I decided to drive around the entire square and see the layout from the street. I decided to park on W Seventh St, to the north and take advantage of shade, and the close proximity to Heritage Coffee and Gifts(separate review), which I knew we would wander into before departing the area. Turns out W Seventh is the perfect place to start. We entered and immediately were taken with the beautiful architecture, landscaping, care and attention to detail this special area exudes. It was all pretty magical and I wasn't sure where to start. Luckily, it wasn't more than a few steps in that we spotted the water tower and visitor's center/gift shop/central hub. We stepped inside and were greeted warmly. I explained that I saw they had docent lead tours and we could sign up online, but I wasn't sure what time we would arrive, so I didn't make a reservation. Was it still possible to get a tour, or was there a self-guided walking tour info sheet? We were asked to wait a moment while the manager and lead docent was found to see if they were available. Gary was available and we began our tour. What a WONDERFUL storyteller! Weaving the families and their history with Los Angeles and Ventura Counties and bringing them to life in front of their very lovingly restored homes! He took us inside of some of the buildings, where operational businesses agree to have the public tours pop in for a moment of show and tell. Details about the original designs, room layouts, furnishings and use were all so amazing to see, touch and learn about. The tour lasted about 45 minutes. We paid $10/pp and it was well worth it! Just to hear the history of the on-site church alone was worth it! But to venture inside, see the details in the hand-made stained glass and the conversion of the oil lanterns to electric. To hear how it has changed denominations over the years and to view the photos inside, documenting the preparation of the Square, the moving process for the homes and the restoration was so intriguing. This is such a beautiful and unique area. I love that these beautiful homes were repurposed and are thriving with businesses! At the end of the tour, Gary encouraged us to check out the annual Holly Trolley Tours, Christmas Tree Lane Event and Gingerbread House Exhibit and tours. All sounded absolutely delightful!. I immediately signed up for their newsletter and I'm REALLY looking forward to returning durning the holiday season and posting more pics of festively dressed docents and delightful decorations. Cheers! "CC"

I came here with some friends for their first hosted event Sound Bath. A wellness day if you will. From start to finish everything was very organized and thoughtful. The staff hosting the event and the spiritual wellness guide and sound healer was wonderful. Everyone was nice and you felt welcomed. Not pretentious and just very positive and good vibes. We had a nice group and everyone was respectful and on time for the sound bath so it went off without issue. It was a relaxing experience and the grounds were very nice to hold this outdoor event. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining, we found an area with shade, very nice. Very faint sounds of cars in the distance here and there which wasn't ideal but out of their control and once things settled in you really couldn't hear much external noise. After the relaxing sound bath we were offered tea and light pastry snacks. I opted for a water and began exploring the grounds instead of partaking in the refreshments. The grounds are lush and lovely, very zen. Loved the beautiful trees and walkways with small fountains and running water. It was green and pretty all around from the recent rains. Definitely a great location for events and to learn a little SB history. I will definitely do my research and come back again soon.
