Under the "heritage site" banner they run a lousy hotel and spa. No bellman nor carts to bring luggage in, no elevator, dripping faucets, dead phone (repaired an hour later after two calls), musty smells, varmit animals running through the ceiling overhead at 4am waking you up, four pillows for the bed, all the same and all hard as bricks, a refrigerator enclosed in a cabinet that heated up to high temperatures because the refrigerator had no vent, $5 for a bottle of water (vs. a couple free bottles most places), weird wi-fi with complex user names and passwords that time out after four hours at which time you have to get a new user name and password from the front desk, and on and on.
Some staff tried, some didn't. Most didn't.
The house directory in the room had instructions was written by a fifth grader. Buried in the directory, not under anything to do with the telephone, was the number to call the front desk. The book made no mention of the in-house restaurant, which we better understood after a horrible meal there. Horrible food, matched by horrible service, seating not on the balcony area where others were but all by ourselves in the main dining area, with dozens on empty tables to keep us company.
Nice pool, never cleaned while we were there, with horribly cheap uncomfortable lounge chairs.
The good news: The views from our room were outrageously fabulous. Our pictures of the morning clouds against the background of the Blue Mountains could be post cards. read more
