The Brecon Beacons National Park is one of those places that makes you Proud. Proud with a capital…read moreP. Through and through. This is some of the most breathtaking scenery in the UK, and when you travel here, you wonder why you would ever want to pay thousands of pounds to visit any other scenery. In the winter, the slopes are full of people taking advantage of the snow; sledding down over the hills (they might be mountains, I'm never quite sure about that kind of thing). In the spring the new lambs poka-dot the countryside and you can amble along well-trodden paths or cross country. In the summer you can try out the Taff Trail cycle path, which traverse through the heart of the park, or camp out in one of the lovely campsites. In the autumn you can go and get the wind blown in your face as you walk around some of the most scenic reservoirs (the hidden ones are the best), and then go and eat a hot dog at the burger van. In short, there's something for everyone. This park is surprisingly huge, and I would recommend, if you're not up for any more adventurous activities, just going for a drive through the middle (one road, can't miss it) - simply stunning.

There's not much the beats Welsh…read morehills (I'm damn partial to Scottish, and Yorkshire hills too mind), it rains a lot in wales, so much a Welsh friend regularly comments on how those born and raised in daffodil country are brought into this world with inbuilt kagools, but, that is what makes them all so pretty and green! The scenery, the walks, the hacks, hell- even sheep trekking now. The lambs, rolling farmland dotted with Heath and forest and wildflowers, waterfalls and brooks and trout pools. The park is a dark sky reserve, so on a clear night you are in for a treat, and a good night's sleep without any light pollution. They are plenty of different accommodation options to suit most tastes, camping, glamping, farmstays, b&bs, the works, and an abundance of pubs, cafes, old estates turned into gallery/farm shop combos, and restaurants full of beautiful local produce.

It is full of peace and tranquillity and it's an amazing sight for sore eyes I can tell you. This place has a large man-made lake that is surrounded by lush; green mountains, tall trees and forests, and a few, long windy roads. You can hear the bird's twerp and flutter about. Winter is the best light and sight to see this place in, for you see the Ice laid over the water and freezing it up making the water become still so turns into ice. I would say that this is a very ideal for photographers and families or young couples romantically in love to come out walking too. Oh and wear some kind of walking boots or wellies.

Ystradfellte is the Brecon Beacon's Waterfall country and its also were I grew up so its a place I…read moreknow well and love very much. Its a place that a lot of people in Wales know of just because of the fall and the caving complexes. The most famous of the waters is Sgwd Y Eira. If you have seen the advertising posters for Brecon Water this is the waterfall in the picture. Its a fairly easy walk apart from the steps as you get near and its one of very few waterfalls that you can actually walk underneath, though do expect to get sprayed a bit. I personally prefer some of the walks around the other falls which are much quieter in the summer and offer refreshing pools to swim in or picnic by. In all my years of living here I have never got bored of walking the area, its different all the time. Just a note to vistors the two main car parks charge a daily fee and a national parks ranger goes between them. If you want to avoid the fee park in the village itself and walk a bit further, tempting as it may be to pull up on the verges near the car parks I have seen so many break in's that you really are risking it a bit.

Home of Pontypool Rugby Club - on match days don't expect to park anywhere near. I have fond memories of Pontypool Park from my childhood. Recently revisiting I was alarmed to see they had cut down quite a few large beautiful mature trees. I hope that they don't continue with this desecration as some parts of the park seemed a little bit boggy, probably due to there being less moisture taken out by the removed trees. I certainly hope that 'the powers that be' take good care of this oasis of calm for the benefit of future generations.

Two reservoirs well worth a visit found high in the Brecon Beacons and perfect for walking along…read morethe banks and around the whole area. The smaller of the two is 12 acres and the other is more than four times larger. There are very few buildings in the vicinity; the ones that are there are run down and practically in ruins. The scenery is lovely with mountain views and there are many conifer plantations as well. I went there yesterday and enjoyed a walk in the spring sunshine. There were a few people fishing and a couple of others walking their dogs. You can park at the end of the cul-de-sac road next to the Lower Neuadd Reservoir.

I first came here when I was really little, so they really did seem huge and…read moreimpressive then- they still are pretty to me now, and are certainly impressive cave system wise for this little country. It's definitely well aimed at children, with a (not entirely relevant, I'll admit) dinosaur park which has been updated. It could benefit from a bit of funding, but that's the case with most places like this, and they definitely do seem to be putting their profits back in again.

The showcaves at Dan-yr-Ogof are the most spectacular caves I have ever visited. There is the…read moreDan-yr-Ogof cave, the Bronze cave and my favourite the Cathedral cave. The stalagtites are thousands of years old and the lighting really adds to the ambience of the cave. There is a Dinosaur park for the children and you can also camp there too. A great holiday base in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

We stayed in their bunkhouse here for New Year's this year and had a great time…read more The bunkhouse is again really nice, the kitchen especially with the traditional range still there. It really is a shame you can't use it though but I appreciate the H&S nightmare that would be. The biggest issue with the bunkhouse is poor showers. There's only 3 for 26+ beds and they have little to no pressure and fluctuating heat. It's also a fixed head so no shower head on a cable either. They really need to look at improving this as it would deter me from going back especially in the Winter even though the rest of the facilities are pretty good. The top bunks in the larger dorms are also very very close to the roof. If you are lying on your side you can touch the roof with your elbow, that's how close. It's a well placed multi activity centre which has climbing, bouldering, sky trek, horse riding and their own built cave system to wriggle through. Great looking walls, though looking a little tired I believe they could give the place a bit of a spruce up. I am a complete beginner with horse riding but after a few initial nerves I had a great time. Though I pretty much let Domino do his own thing. It's a good option if it's too mucky to walk as you let the horse get his hooves dirty.

As the name suggests, this really is a multi activity centre, situated in a great location…read moreoverlooking Llangorse Lake near Brecon. Horse riding, pony trekking, outside 'adventure activities' and, the reason for our visit an excellent climbing wall with a wide range of different walls and other features to provide a great day for anyone into indoor wall climbing. There are a few drawbacks though, firstly the disabled access and facilities are very poor - no designated parking that we could see and lots of steps and stairs inside and out and uneven ground. And the eating facilities are pretty much non existent apart from sandwiches and drinks in bottles and cans, don't expect any hot food or a dedicated eating zone which is surprising. With a lot of outside tables just outside, the recommend here is to make a picnic of it, bring your own and enjoy the great view over the lake below. This place is great for a sunny day drive out, anyone into climbing walls or anyone into horse riding.
