More than one river flows through Brecon, including the Tarell and the Honddu (not to mention the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal) but the River Usk is the largest and where many trails and paths follow the banks, making it a lovely place to take a walk at any time of year. We go there about once a month and usually walk along one or two stretches of the Usk. It flows very close to the centre of the town so it's easy to find your way down to the riverbank from wherever you are. Walking north will take you along the tree-lined Promenade past the castle to the weir and then into the countryside. South of Bridge Street you can follow the river in the opposite direction (there are steps down from the bridge) and either cut up to the left a short way along, returning to the town, or continuing to eventually meet the canal. A very attractive and pleasant walk whichever way you do it! Most of the paths are easily accessible to everyone. read more
