New owners have taken over this great spot in New Farm and have updated the interior and introduced a revamped breakfast and lunch menu, with slightly extended hours.
The cafe has got a moderate crowd as locals return following the closure period as the cafe changed hands. Patrons are seated and provided menus and water and advised to head to the counter to order meals and drinks when ready. This is great as with additional seating outside in hard to see areas, no patrons are left waiting for a staff member to take orders. Additionally it allows groups to pay separately but with the same table number so all orders come out together.
Meals ordered today were French toast (with berries, marscapone, syrup - the same toppings as on the waffles) and Eggs Benedict. At $16 the one piece of French toast was quite unfilling and the toppings were a almost a little light (note: returned a second time and the piece was more than a 1/3 bigger but because it was so thick the inside was just bread). The Eggs Benedict is usually offered with salmon or pulled pork but they switched it out for ham at no additional cost. Unfortunately one egg was hard and one runny, so consistency was disappointing.
The staff were great and I enjoy having the local cafe back. Rating a 4 because the taste was good and there generally is teething issues with a new cafe, but a few issues if continued would be disappointing.
Additionally, going forward it would be great for the cafe to have more of an online presence so that interested customers can see the menu and the meals on offer. read more
