As a fan of history and architecture I have a fondness for the Moore Building located in the Design District. The Design District was once a pineapple farm in Buena Vista. Pineapple farm owner, Theodore Vincent Moor built the four story Moore Building in 1922 during Florida's land boom years for his family furniture business. Moore was known as the Pineapple King of Florida. The Moore Building was a furniture factory and showroom and it was one of the first stores in the U.S. dedicated strictly to furniture. The Moore Building was designed in a masonry vernacular style by David Paul Davis, a well known Tampa architect and developer during the 1920's. Davis also designed the Buena Vista Post Office. The Moore building forms an L shape around the post office. In 1926 Davis mysteriously died aboard the steamship Majestic when he went overboard on the way to Europe. His death remains clouded in mystery and to this day it no one is sure if it was an accident, murder, or suicide. One of the most notable features of the Moore Building is the four story atrium located at the south entrance of the building. The atrium has a mezzanine with art deco railings on the second, third, and fourth level. Inside the atrium is the permanent art installation Elastika by architect Zaha Hadid. Elastika features web shaped forms stretching across the atrium to the balconies. From 1997 to 1999 the Moore Building underwent a major restoration to restore its original architectural features. Today it is an event space that can be rented. A lot of Art Basel events are held here. The rest of the building houses interior design and furniture showrooms. In 2019 City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado, The City of Miami in Coordination with Alexander Adams and the Florida Department of State installed Marker Number F-1061infront of the Moore Building and Buena Vista Post Office. The marker details the history of the two buildings.

I went yesterday fan art event. Typically Art Basel would be this weekend but due to covid this year was a bit different. We were able to buy tickets in advance through eventbrite and had to choose an hour block schedule. It was pretty nice. I loved the 1 hour block because it wasn't so crowded as you know it usually is. You had more time to enjoy the art. The items and art was great. Staff was making sure the covid safety protocol was being upkept. I took a few pics to show you all. Complimentary drink once done with the 4 floors of art viewing. Covid details- We were offered courtesy Adidas mask which I thought were great as well. Time slots were avaliable in a 1 hr block to choose. We chose 4 -5 pm. Roof top access but with limited seating and spaced out for saftey features. Sanitizing stations on each floor upon entering through the stairwell

Markets for makers.

Located in the Miami Design District, The Moore Building is a bit difficult to find. Fortunately for Elian D. and me, there were plenty of people and signs as to how to get to our intended destination: the Market for Makers. Turns out I won tickets on Yelp for that, so thanks bunches. That being said, apparently this is the second year that this holiday market is a thing. That and it seems to be a market many cities have picked up on as the website mentioned many locations for it. The Miami location for it was at The Moore Building and hence now this review. The building itself is vast and they utilized four floors for the market, with each floor slowly and surely dazzling you with a variety of trinkets available. Photo opportunities galore, free drinks and flower crowns, and did I mention the food samples? There truly was something there for everyone. More surprising still though is how this was billed. You needed tickets to go into a market where the full intention was to buy things. A bit baffling really, but it was fun nevertheless.

I came here for a wine tasting event. The beautiful venue is really impressive. I don't know who thought of putting some weird sculpture in the center but it sure transforms the whole place. The layout works for having tables/exhibits on the different levels for visitors to explore, and a centralized location on the ground floor. The staircase is not the easiest to navigate though, especially at a wine event, I am thankful I managed to go up and down without mishap. For parking, believe it or not, it's cheaper to park in the garage than on the street. I parked at Paradise Plaza, an easy two blocks away, which charges only $3 for the first four hours. $3 total, not per hour.

This has been on my "do see" list being an art and historian buff. Boy did it not disappoint. I actually walked right inside, and saw no one. open to the public, so I had the place all to myself (thanks to covid). I believe in better times this is usually rented out for art, markets and so forth, so to see it empty and in all its architectural regal glory, I felt very privileged. Here is as much information as you need - ADDRESS 191 NE 40th St. Miami, FL 33137 ZAHA HADID: ELASTIKA is a site-specific installation, which aims to mutate the historical Moore building built in 1921.The existing building has two major implied architectural moves: horizontal circulation on layered mezzanines and four story vertical columns that stretch upwards to embrace the central atrium. Pushing the envelope of current spatial concepts, we have instilled a dynamic tension within this existing Cartesian layout. Oblique 'stretches' span the space like chewing gum, establishing an elastic/plastic connection between different floors, creating new understanding in complex geometry and fluid architectural order. The design and manufacture of the installation has only been made possible through the latest advances in technology. Its form was generated on complex geometry software (using nurb surface modeller). This design was then sculpted by CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milling to enable manufacture.

I visited the Moore building for the Market for Makers and it was a beautiful event. Tickets would be purchased in advance or at the door. The Bright white interior of the building was great for the artisans to display their products. The stair ways were beautiful- a great venue for a party, wedding, reception.

This is a beautiful building!! Great decor but misses usable space on the front floors... Look at my pic and you will see that it resembles a little the architecture of Gaudi (keeping distance) in the center... Very nice though. For a wine tasting, very nice, but have to climb stairs and with wine... Well just ok! The other glitch, restrooms only on the first floor... That is a major minus! The venue is at midtown and needs valet! Enjoy your ....

If you've ever driven by this building you know it's different. If you've ever walked by and you've seen Domo Japones in one corner and the Garden Lounge on the next corner then you know that this place is cool. Especially on the second Saturday of the month when it's officially gallery night. If you've ever been to a party in this building, you know it's a beautiful, enormous location that holds some of the best events held in this nightlife loving city. If you've ever been to the Moore Space, the gallery located on the 2nd floor then you know that the Moore building houses some of the smartest exhibits in Miami. They say some buildings have personalities, if so then you know this one is a party loving, art star with a thing for sushi.

Oh how I love the Moore Building! If I could choose a building in all of Miami to join in wedlock like that weird lady who married the Eiffel Tower, it would be The Moore Building. I've been here for a couple of events including Wine Enthusiast's Toast of Town. I'm in love with it's industrial-looking facade and the cast iron staircase inside. I love that it has multiple personalities and can be the perfect venue for different types of events. From art galleries to fashion events to food and wine tastings, it's a magnificent, multifunctional space. I especially love Zaha Hadid's cool art installation, "Elastica" on the ceiling. If you haven't been here yet, you are truly missing out.

I'd love to know what the parking situation is like? Thanks !

I'd recommend the parking ramps in that area. Quite affordable! There is some street parking but you can rely on the ramps for sure.

I always love a place that still pulls in a massive late night crowd while always, always maintaining a level of filth that keeps the people that I don't want going there to never return again. I went here every single night that I was in Miami. Some of those nights I remember and some of them I don't. It served as a common grounds for people who really don't care about much more than getting drunk and kind of dancing. Some might call it pricy, but those people just don't know how to plan ahead. Sure, it would be kind of annoying that they ran out of the cheaper beer options every night, but that's a pretty clever business strategy, especially during Basel. My brand of babes stomped around this place like nobody's business and that's all I need to think a bar is great. For those who gave this place 1 star, I'm glad to know that I won't run into you next time I'm in Miami.

The venue where the food and drinks were was big and inviting. They had nice bars set up. I am not sure of this is how this place is set up normally. I won't comment on the service, food and drinks because I don't know if that is directly from the venue. I do know that their security was not as thorough as they should have been. One positive thing is they have a LOT of women's bathrooms. It sounds funny, but you ladies know that when there is a concert, there can be long waits to go. As far as the concert area, this reminded me of a big nightclub. There are no seats for the general public. VIP area had some seats that looked uncomfortable. Besides that, there were not many seats at all and far too many people in that area.
