Agape Montessori School

Our experience at Agape Montessori School has been nothing short of amazing. I would give 10 stars…read moreif I could. I did not have any experience with the Montessori approach prior to this daycare. We honestly started it because it was close to our house and our neighbors recommended it. But as soon as we started we loved it. The center is cleaned thoroughly from floor to toys daily (I witness it). The head teachers and assistants are very consistent in each classroom and are so passionate about each child they are working with. They have been trained with the Montessori mindset and live by it. They encourage independent play and group time, they work on manners, school work, how to be friends. They activate the brain through play and activities that are fun for the kids but they are developing so many skills. The director, office manager, and teachers are available, kind, and easy to communicate with and provide good communication. I read some (old) comments about afternoon TV time once the teachers leave. On days when it's not very nice out, the kids do watch some TV on the carpet at the end of the day but most of the time it's interactive so they are up dancing or singing with what's on. When the weather is nice they are outside playing! And yes there is a cement "alley" but it is not unsafe as that's part of life- cement driveways, cement sidewalks, cement porches. Highly recommend for quality of center, quality of staff, cleanliness, level of attentiveness to the children, and the pricing (relative to the area).

The owners and teachers are very loving and consistent with the children. On several occasions, if one of the girls was sad or upset about leaving mom (me) to be at school, a teacher would offer to snuggle or sit with them until they felt better. My kids have become deeply attached to their daytime and afternoon teachers over the past year, and it's been a relief that turnover has been very low in my experience. I also appreciate the kindness and understanding I've received as a parent from all of the staff members--which has not always been my experience at other schools. Academically, I'm very impressed. My older daughter is in the elementary classroom, which is a range of children from K-3rd grade. She would be in kindergarten in public school, but she's consistently bringing home 1-2nd grade worksheets that she has finished with flying colors! She was just beginning to sound out words when she started, and now she is working on reading basic chapter books. She's also learned to add and subtract fractions, understands the scientific process, and has a solid grasp on the geography of the United States and the continents of the world. My younger daughter is officially in their preschool program, but she has also learned to read and is working on kindergarten-level math skills. The elementary program offers a long list of field trips and special events in the classroom, such as their holiday parties, Christmas program, "coffee house poetry cafe" event, and more. These schools may look pretty ordinary from the outside, but the amount of love and care that goes into the curriculum and the students is amazing.

My kids were always in good hands here and the curriculum was above par. My kids were taught to think, not memorize and their concepts of the Montessori math have given them such an advantage in their current public school. They learned about maps, diversity, science and they loved every minute of it. When one of my kids felt a lack of confidence Mrs Debbie stepped in personally to help him find his learning style. She discovered with him that he really enjoyed putting together books and his confidence sky rocketed. We miss this place, very fond memories.

I believe his love of reading started early because of Phoenix Montessori and their way for building confidence in young readers! His math skills are also strong because of the early foundation of skills he learned there. This year my middle child will be returning for her second year (kindergarten year) and my youngest will start his pre-year ! I can't wait to see what this year will bring! Besides the educational benefits, we have made life long friends with parents and students. We drive 20 min to get to school because it is so worth it!

They quickly discover how best to motivate your child. You will be surprised at how the teachers' gentle guidance and support will transform your child into a happy, excited learner. Our oldest daughter (now 7) attended Phoenix for preschool and kindergarten, and our youngest (3) is currently enrolled. The curriculum is challenging but also gives them ample opportunity to express themselves with art and other projects. Even after graduation, the teachers remain interested in your child's success and are a helpful resource as you transition into a regular school. One of our favorite things about Phoenix is that graduates are always welcome to come back a visit ... creating a wonderful continuity in their education! I cannot recommend the school enough. If you want an exceptional Montessori education for your child, Phoenix is a perfect option.

It is more expensive then a traditional preschool program Where Your Children will play with toys all day long though... My daughter received a solid education and she's not a genius by any stretch but by three years old she was bringing home world maps that she had drawn. I kept her at the school through her kindergarten year because she was already reading books and I think that's simply because of the Montessori method of educating children and engaging their minds. I didn't want her sitting at a public school and waiting for other children to identify basic letters and sounds when she was already reading and doing math. In my opinion there is nothing that substitutes for Montessori education now that I've seen it in action. My favorite part about this school though is the history that it has within the Johnson County area. This school originated over 40 years ago! A number of the teachers and parents who bring their children there were once original students at the school. I think it's a well-kept secret and it has not lost any of its charm or dedication and I'm honored that this is where my daughter began her education.
