I came to May's to do that, and got a rather reasonable £60 for something I never would have worn again. If you're really desperate, you can pawn something you DO want back on the premise that they'll loan you the amount it's worth. They'll keep the item for up to 7 months, although I don't like the idea of not being able to keep up with the repayments (plus their interest) and losing that cherished heirloom forever... There's loads of great deals on second hand and new jewellery too, with diamond rings starting as little as £50 and continuing upwards of £2,000 but when I look at some pieces I can't help wondering whether the previous owners were unlucky or willing sellers.

It's a sad sign of the times that Colwyn Bay is seeing a mini-explosion in pawn shops while nice…read moreshops like Home Curtains are closing down. This shop offers a variety items which may appear to be bargains but you need to do a bit of homework. For example they recently had an 1st generation iPod Nano on display which looked to be a bargain, until you realise that iPod Nano's are now up to 6th generation so the one on offer was five or six years old. To be honest you'll find most of the stuff here in Argos for a similar price and you won't be taking the risk that your item is close the end of it's lifespan. On the plus side it's filled a shop that had been empty for years (the old Motorworld) and it does attract people, there always seems to be people gawking in the window. Having said that it might sound the death knell for the existing second hand shop on Princes Drive so Colwyn Bay may still end up with an empty shop.

They are friendly and efficient and no where was to be seen a 'smack-head'. We are in a recession and it's nice knowing they are there, has helped me clear my clutter, get some cash and have a spacious clean airy home. I give them 20 out of 10.
