From the beginning, we were reassured that this was the right place - the home is cleaned thoroughly everyday and there is plenty of space (indoors and outdoors) for kids to expend their energy! There is a wide variety of toys, books and activities to engage the children. The meals they provide are nutritious and very similar to what we eat as well (rice, noodles, pasta, soup). My son always comes home with a full and satisfied belly! Lastly, the caregivers are so attentive and patient and always give us a detailed update of how he's doing. They shower so much love on him and he, in turn, loves his "yi yi's" (Cantonese for aunties) very much. My son enjoys being there so much and never wants to go home! He always talks about his friends and the yi-yi's! He has truly flourished under their excellent care and reached so many physical and intellectual firsts in the 15 months that he was there. Within weeks of starting at Little Dots, he took his first steps! He has learnt and developed his language skills and many other life skills. I have seen them treat all the children as if they are family. My son has always been excited at drop off, relieving a lot of anxiety when we first started daycare and every day after. I always know that he is in good hands and am never stressed or worried during the day. Every time we pick him up he is smiling ear to ear. They provide frequent status updates and photos throughout the day which is much appreciated. They also utilize baby sign language as well which really helped foster our son's communication skills. In addition to this they taught my son to say please/thank you before 18 months which, I will tell you, is the cutest thing ever. They do daily teaching activities and go to the park as well. They get a lot of outdoor play as well which my son loves. They are able to accommodate special requests as well (ie early nap time if needed based on appointments). Both my husband and I work 8-5 most days so we were worried about finding a place that could accommodate our work hours. Michael worked with our schedule and was able to plan early drop off/pick up for us which was much appreciated! Special kudos for introducing different languages- they speak Spanish and Portuguese and this place is well diverse. Each day (weather permitting) the kids have outdoor play and they visit different neighborhood parks, visit the library, and seasonal parks. One of the many perks is that they utilize the Bright Wheel App where they post many pictures and short videos throughout the day, so parents can see how their children are up too:) The location is ideal too as the home is next to SMPD, library, various shops and minute away from Foster City, 101/92 freeways. That's how much both our boys have enjoyed being at Mi Second Casa. We consider Graciela and Miguel an extension of our family, embodying the "it takes a village to raise a child" proverb. Dropping the boys off at daycare has never felt like a drop-off -- more like, here's where we are going to enjoy the day and hang out with friends, and it just so happens that Mommy and Daddy will be away. The backyard garden has been the centerpiece of their play, making the most use of the warm California sun. They've brought back gardening tips & developed a healthy love for fresh produce. They've had the time of their lives with water play on really hot days. Through their play-based curriculum, our eldest (who is now in TK) has been doing well at school, learning to read and write ahead of his peers. He has developed fluency in Spanish, something he could never have gotten from us at home, neither of whom are native speakers. Different than any other day care I've heard of, Viktoriia uses an app called Brightwheel which keeps us updated in real time about our son's feedings, nap times, and any activities he does during the day, all with pictures and videos. We are so happy we went with a daycare over a nanny because our son is able to develop his social skills, and they definitely put to rest any misconceptions we had about daycare beforehand. As a first time parent, I was of course focused on setting up my son for the best academic future possible and was looking at academically focused pre-schools like Stratford. Visiting that school, I had a mixed feeling of hope for the future, and sadness to see pre-schoolers lined up in those tiny desks doing work. The playground was quiet on the day I visited and there was a little girl crying. Was it really necessary to start my baby boy on the Gerbil wheel of life so soon? In contrast, my first impression of Petite Sorbonne was of the crazy noise and sound of laughter. It was a bit overwhelming initially, but it seemed like kids were everywhere. As Teacher June gave me a tour of the grounds (a large Victorian house), she was interrupted every few minutes by a kid giving her a hug or telling her "I love you". The kids just played together and were so happy, the way childhood is supposed to be. I went with my gut. I'm writing this review with the benefit of hindsight. My son is now in 4th grade and at the top of his class academically. He's in the honors class at Russian school of Math. But most importantly, he truly loves learning, has what seems to be a bottomless well of curiosity, and makes friends so easily. Teachers June and Vanessa are the most amazing educators and developers of global citizens. They teach the important things in life--what it means to be a part of a Community, how to treat yourself and others with respect. Your children will have traditions from this school, from the blooming and nurturing of the garden, finding of treasures in the playground sand, to the trouble that leprechauns bring.
