I get giddy about doing humanitarian work because I figure it comes down to this: you're born, you live, you die, what did you do with all of that time? Sell snack chips? Watch football? Show off your tribal tattoos? Seriously, yo, did you make the world a better place when you left it? Um... The SVEDC encompasses everything you wish you were doing while you watched the latest episode of Survivor and checked on Lindsay Lohan's Twitter posts. From TEDxABQ to The Mixing Bowl (a community kitchen for organizations feeding those in need), the place supports the south valley in countless ways. So many great things are happening here, in a community that knows Burque better than anyone else. So yeah, I'm pimping this biz. The five stars are awarded to the people, the everyday persons that inhabit this wonderful space. Come visit, please, even if you can't make the event. Great little space, nice couches, chairs, desks; even a counter where you can work while standing. The people here seem very friendly; I think they may start accepting Dwolla as payment soon as well. $5 for a day pass puts them in the category of coworking spaces that I can use regularly on my budget without worrying overmuch; the only other one for that price I know of here in ABQ is TechLove in Nob Hill. The building is beautiful and houses a number of other great resources helping small businesses and startups that I haven't even fully explored yet, and am looking forward to doing in the near future. But the coworking space is great. Great alternative to TechLove without breaking the bank.

They teach healthy living starting from nutrition not only in books but in a way of GROWING FOODS. I LOVE that. They get to work and learn how to grow food, eat healthy, have a place to hang out and express themselves via music, poetry, spoken words, and art. They were prepping for an upcoming show and there were some seriously talented youth there I got to work in the fields for a bit and got to see their beautiful greenhouse they call the wind tunnel. Right now they have kale greens, spinach, beets, lettuce, and carrots. On the outside the had garlic, onions, and sugar snap peas so far. How amazing that they do all this?!?! The people who work there are passionate about what they do and I saw the light in their eyes shine when they spoke of what they do. I was blown away by learning all that they do. Our Yelp Helps group spent some time slinging poo, raking dirt and digging a hole with 3 of the gentleman that run this great program. I had some great conversation with Brad. He had some insight about troubled youth and the community. I was thrilled to see all of these great helping hands. The folks at the institute were preparing for an upcoming community event. We listened to some music and spoken word poetry before heading out to the farm where we were given a tour of the area and handed a pitch fork/shovel. I enjoyed my time with other helpful yelpers and the folks at the institute.

A powerful cast led by Cecilia Lopez, Hak Soo Kim, and Mathew Hanscom was stellar. The orchestra under the direction of music director Anthony Barrese reached new heights in this classic opera. The administration and Board of OSW manages to mix in exciting new works, rediscovered operas from Maestro Barrese's travels and classics like Butterfly. When people talk of Opera being a dying art form they need to see what OSW has done.

In this time of COVID-19, they're also working closely with the United Way of Central New Mexico to provide grants to small businesses that need some help, and they're offering educational Zoom courses. This week, they worked with Southwest Creations Collaborative to help them sew face masks and medical gowns. Many of those working there focus on altruistic endeavors. The CCO Lisa is great. She's very understanding and affable. She wants you to feel comfortable there. The space is clean. The working desks are roomy; there's a nice variety of desks, lounge areas, and private rooms. The ground floor maintains the essence of the old library structure at the original Albuquerque High School with high ceilings. Most of the buildings there are residential. Because this was an old school, there's a lovely courtyard to take breaks or work. The basement level is more cozy and modern and brightly lit. Perfect for an artist like me. Hopefully, there's a spot where you can spread out more if you have an easel. I love the vast open space and being around others, though I enjoyed the times when no one was there. Overall, FatPipe is on the quieter side. Everyone keeps their phones silent mode. Of course, you will hear collaborating and Zoom calls, but it's not loud. The carpeting helps with that. They have a weekly yoga session to start your day and 1 Million Cups. Lisa brings speakers in regularly. As an artist, I love that FatPipe is open 24/7 for monthly members and beyond.

Most if not all of the supervisor staff does not seem too thrilled with their position, not helpful, and look upset or bored out of their mind. The staff leaders are just ok. I think if they had better supervisor's running the place maybe you could expect more but it is just so so. I did not feel they did as good of a job with the kids that Taylor ranch did. My kids along with my friend's children did not care for it too much, some days they did not want to go at all. People working the front desk are almost always less than knowledgeable and never know what is going on or give out the wrong information.

Over and over we have to call for WARRANTY WORK. We get the run around constantly from our customer service warranty representative, Steven Contreras. He promises to get repair workers to our homes but we have to continue to call over and over again. The appliances that they charge an extreme premium for are ALL TRASH. Out of the 14 appliances between the 2 homes, over half have had to have service and 2 have already had to be replaced before they were 2 years old. Out of 14 brand new homes on our street, there isn't one home where the sliding glass can be easily opened. I had to have repair men out 3 times to work on it, and it still is very difficult to open. My windows were not sealed, had a house full of sand. My laundry room light broke in less than a year, we have been trying to get Steven Contreras to send an electrician for 2 months but we just kerp getting the run around. If we had known how awful these people are WE WOULD HAVE TAKEN OUR MONEY TO A DIFFERENT BUILDER. PLEASE READ ALL REVIEWS AND GO TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU and read all the complaints about this company before giving them your money. You will not be satisfied with a Hakes Brothers Home.
