This eatery is nothing fancy and has a rather small interior with some outdoor seating. The food here is consistently good and the customer service is great. They offer a 10% military discount. I ordered my favorite dish, Chile Relleno and one friend ordered taquitos and the other chose chicken enchiladas. The chips and salsa are self serve and complimentary. The Mexican Kitchen is located in a small shopping center off Elsworth and Cactus, across from March Air Base. Inside you'll find short tables and booths and limited table and chairs outside on the sidewalk. This was my first time here and the food was ok. They have a salsa bar and out of the three I tried, one was great but the other two desperately needed salt. There wasn't much flavor. Both meals were ok. It was seven years ago that I stopped into The Mexican Kitchen while visiting the military base across the street. I fell in love with their surf n turf burrito and this salad, and now all of these years later these people are still cooking amazing food. I will need to post the burrito later but this salad is awesome. Back then I was living in San Diego so I didn't make the drive up very often but now that I live in Menifee I can get here much more often. Disappointed! My wife wasn't able to make our tamales and pozole this year and the family was craving it. Called the Mexican kitchen and they said they could come through for us. Boy our we disappointed! The tamales are probably the worst we've ever had. It seems like they used chili verde to stuff the pork ones and the chicken seems like enchiladas. There is hardly any meat and the masa tastes watered down. The rajas look like a chili relleno was stuffed into masa. They're wrapped in anger. This mom & pops place is the best Mexican food I ever had in Moreno Valley! I go here after my visit from vase. Short 5 minute drive, I get the beef taquitos and my husband gets the beef flautas! The complimentary chips & salsa is delicious! The staff are awesome! read more

Everything here is amazing from customer service to the food. They only use quality ingredients and no animal products in beans or rice. They have a chips salsa bar. Chips are warm and fresh and all the salsas are very good. The employees speak very good English and lady at the register took her time to recommend things on the menu, we really appreciated that. The first day I got a carne asada taco and a bean and cheese with enchilada sauce. I didn't care for the beans as they were whole. I prefer refried. The flavor was decent though. Not the reason for the two stars. The carne asada was fresh on the taco but lacked flavor. It was cooked well though. Tender. The second day I got a carne asada burrito with only cheese and sour cream. The meat tasted like it was sitting in the sun since nam. It was gray flavorless meat-like textured cubes. Gross. Both my coworker and I noticed there was no seasoning on the meat, and there was absolutely no flavor, even after adding some salsas. I ordered at lunch time. Noon. There were about five people ahead of me. But my food came out within or less than 10 minutes. Their menu is simple. Prices are good. The lady that took my order was very nice. They also give you chips and salsa with your order, which is a bonus at a fast food place. I ordered a sausage, egg, tomato and cheese breakfast burrito ($6.99) and three carne asada tacos ($1.99 ea.). I only got a bite of the breakfast burrito and it was not bad. Unfortunately the tacos were mine and I didn't care much for them. The meat was dry and didn't have too much flavor, and the tortilla, though home made, was quite thick and overpowered every bite. The salsa was okay, but after the first taco I opted to use my leftover stash from Miguels, Jr. To their credit, they don't charge for using a card if your order is over $7, and they are very nice, but this was the first time I've ever ordered a carne asada taco and had it served with just the tortilla and the meat and nothing else. I was at least expecting cilantro and onions, but all there was was a pile of wilted (by the time I got home) lettuce and melted cheese in the corner of the box. I have come here several times and so far I like their food (for the most part) and customer service is good; however, I kind of feel their food is a bit too pricey. I've gone to it's neighboring competitor, Mrs. Tacos Mexican Grill, and I'll be frank with you I like some of their food better than Mexican Kitchen and it's cheaper (like their salsas too). If you're craving tacos, I recommend Mrs. Tacos Mexican Grill. However, if you're craving to eat some Mexican food with beans, go to Mexican Kitchen--their beans are better. What I like about both of them is that they both serve complimentary chips and salsas (their salsas are not disappointing). Very legit authentic Mexican Food in strip mall location. Order at the counter, help yourself to chips and salsa, pour your own sodas and food delivered to the table. The salsas were all tasty... 6 to choose from. The chips were hot and fresh and all you can eat. I had a combo plate with an al pastor taco, chile relleno and an enchilada. All were good. The chile relleno was a standout, though. Extra star for serving it on a real plate with silverware. Huge combo plate, bottomless drinks, bottomless chips...$11. Great deal. I ordered a carne asada plate, which included a chese enchilada, rice, and beans. Although the carne asada was flavorful, certain portions were very tough to chew and were indigestible. The flour tortillas looked like corn tortillas in size and color and were undercooked. When I opened the aluminum-foil wrap, I initially thought that they were corn tortillas. Imagine that. This place seems popular to Army and Air Force personnel. Many uniformed military personnel were present during lunch. So, they may be on to something. My wife had the tamale which was nothing more than canned sauce poured over chicken and that poured on top of the corn meal pattie. That is right no corn husk or flavor. The cashier was so rude and didn't understand my order after repeating it 5 times. I simply asked for a chicken salad, but asked for avocado in place of chicken. She said they are short on avocado so they have to charge me extra $2 for 3 slices of avocado. I told her give me what it comes with and just don't add chicken. I had to repeat this 4 more times. Yet, she still charged me the $2. I again (slowly) told her my order again. So frustrating. Then they finally processed my order, took 16 minutes for a salad without chicken.
