Love the pictorial drink menu!

Shame on me! I haven't been to The Metro in prob 2 years, maybe more... I've been missing out! The beer selection is maybe less than what I remember, but I gotta say as a beer person, they have beers you will not find anywhere else. And the food is still darn good, better than you'd expect. I had the Golden Pear flatbread, how could you not: gorgonzola, bacon, pears, YES! A little pepper on top and wow, so tasty! And for $9, downtown? Anywhere else it'd be $12+, guaranteed. I moved out of the area a few years back and have been meaning to stop by this old favourite haunt for some time. I love the relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere and the open space, the music isn't too loud, and the pool table area has expanded. They have new comfy chairs and still lots of booths, so it's a great space to hang out with a group. Service is still just OK, our server was sweet and attentive but a little clueless about food and beer. That's fine if you know what you want, and you likely won't pick a dud anyhow. Plus Wednesday is Ladies Night - free pool for the gals, nice. I'm sorry I've been a bad friend, Metro! I'll make it up to you and reclaim my Duchess title, I promise.

My first visit here was for a birthday party group of around 12 people. We arrived at 6:30 on a Thursday evening and discovered that the place is quite huge. There are as many pool tables as there are dining tables. When we eventually found our group I settled in and the server came immediately to take drink orders. I was looking for a local beer on tap. The carried two type of brew from Situation Brewery but no other local products so I went with that. One guest ordered some appetizers - nachos - but they didn't arrive until after our food came. I ordered a Reuben Sandwich in my never ending quest to find a Reuben as good as I had in Omaha many years ago. This $17.00 Reuben was somewhat dry. It came with fries that I upgraded to yam fries. It was okay but nothing special. I tried a piece of someone's pizza (flat bread) and it was okay too but nothing special. I suppose that's to be expected in a pub where the goal is to sell more drinks than food. Generally the service was good and attentative other than the fact late the appetizers were late in coming. The seating was very conducive to moving around so we could visit with people at other ends of the tables or go to play some pool. I don't think that I'll be back anytime soon as I found the Metro to be a bit expensive for very average food. However it was very well laid out for large groups so it certainly meets the needs of the party crowd. If they could just up their game on food quality they could become a real destination. Until then, I'll give them three stars out of five.

I first discovered The Metro while attending Grant MacEwan College over a decade ago. The place has gone through several changes since, but is still as welcoming now as ever. For students, and anyone else for that matter, it's a convenient place for lunch and billiards. Norquest just took over the old A&B Sound building just down the block and MacEwan is only a few short blocks away. The Metro is interesting because it doesn't necessarily have a specific demographic from what I can tell. Obviously patrons must be over the age of 18, but adults of all ages feel comfortable here. The decor is very classy but not in a snooty or exclusive way. There are TVs all around the club as well as over the bar so you won't miss the game. The primary focus is billiards and they have several well taken care of tables. No coin tables here! There's also a private room with a pool table available to rent. They offer a full menu and a wide variety of alcoholic beverages. The wait staff are attentive and attractive. You can sit at the bar or they have a section of tables and booths available if you're not interested in playing pool.
