The Met hotel is very well placed in the city and so close to the station. The exterior looks very classically appealing as well. The reception staff were very nice and very helpful, however the building and rooms themselves are poor. The entire building including the rooms have creaky floors and oversold decor when examining the decor shown in pictures. We requested no housekeeping when asked at check-in, but still had people knocking the next day. The beds are uncomfortable, old and collapsed as seen in the images which doesn't help sleeping at all. The fitted sheets don't fit the mattresses which is uncomfortable. The rooms themselves are also very dirty in corners, edges and crevices, and clearly hadn't been cleaned in months. What added to our distain, which wasn't the hotels fault, were the constant construction sounds from outside which started at the crack of dawn every day, amplified more than expected due to the single glazing in the rooms. Oh lord I am sleepy. Where to rest my heavy head? Maybe the park bench idea isn't so wise and I'm not dressed for a cardboard box just yet. So it's the Met for me, yippee. The Met is a long standing traditional hotel in a stunning Grade II listed building. That gives it loads of character that other hotels in the city lack. It's also been recently refurbished inside, so it's elegance from start to finish. So we've established it's got the looks, has it got the moves to back itself up? On my experience it has. Good customer service and very willing staff make my stay even more enjoyable. If you need something (within reason and legal), then just ask and they'll do their best for you. I was tempted to try for a giraffe and a trumpet but I thought I may get ejected. It's not the cheapest; if you want cheap then you know where the travel lodge is. Having said that it's not stupidly priced either. Plus it is a lovely stay and you deserve to spoil yourself from time to time. Go on, you know you want to! read more

I stayed at The Met Hotel for one night and I have a mixed feeling about this place, and not sure if I would come back again. Lets start from the beginning. When I was trying to book a room on their webiste, it said all the rooms are booked so I decided to take a chance by calling them and checking and voila they had a double room (made me very happy). When I went in there was a confusion about the payment even though my company had already paid for it before but the friendly and sweet receptionist made the experience much nicer. I had to leave immediately to go for a meeting so the receptionist very kindly booked me a cab which again made me smile and happy (yeah i can be impressed by little things). The room was of a moderate size (wont say decent for the price as I have seen better even in London) and was not impressed with the bathroom at all because the shower was not even half decent (boo). The internet cable (no wifi?? why? how?) in the room didn't work either because of which i had to use up all my phone data (not very happy). Finally I had breakfast in the morning and must say I was expecting much better, because their breakfast spread looked similar to the likes of budget hostels. Verdict: Good service but badly equipped, probably wont come back here unless all the hotels in Leeds are booked that night! read more

Absolutely amazing the staff could not have done more for us during the entire process of our wedding, we had a large number of guests staying here for our wedding and every single one spent the wedding complimenting our choice of hotel for the wedding reception. We had a slight hiccup with a fire alarm going off during the evening reception but its a public building and the staff did everything they could to cause minimum disruption. They also gave us a few bottles of wine to apologise, we didn't even complain they cant help it. The main met suite looks amazing for any event, the food was excellent and brought out seamlessly, the rooms were all nice and the hotel facilities are great. I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again, however one element is the supplied dj don't use him I'm writing a separate review as I don't want him to mar an excellent venue read more

I wanted to love The Met Hotel; the grand facade combined with the half-price booking we managed to get via Booking.com meant we'd been able to upgrade to a Superior Double, and that alone had me feeling chuffed as soon as I pressed 'confirm'. It's a short walk from the train station - as it appears everything is in Leeds! - and well located for all the bars and restaurants but without the noise of a city centre. When we arrived there was a church conference on in the main hall meaning there was lots of atmosphere and people milling around. Without this the entrance may have felt a bit cold. Check-in took longer than usual due to Booking.com registering my additional guest as the main booking name, so we had to go off the number rather than my name, but the guy behind the desk was efficient despite this. We paid upfront (so as to not be tempted by the bar...) so had an equally speedy check-out the next day which was simply a handing over of the room card. The room itself was nice enough, though I'd be interested in seeing the size of a standard room if that's what they consider superior. Robes and towels were provided in the cupboard, plus a safe, ironing board and hairdryer. There's no fridge but there are tea & coffee provisions for that morning brew. The bathroom was well appointed with goods from The White Company, but a cracked tile and what I can only imagine was the first power shower created took the shine off somewhat. We were also woken up at what can only be described as ridiculous o'clock by a reversing delivery van in the courtyard / road outside our room. All in all, an A-OK experience! read more

I'm involved in the trade union movement so I travel around a lot for meetings and events. This weekend, they put me up here. I have to say, I doubt I've stayed somewhere nicer, to be honest. Maybe the Glenskirlie in Stirlingshire... My room was lovely. Clean and spacious enough just for me. There was tea and coffee, a hairdryer ( I had brought my own) an iron and a telly with loads of channels. I felt dead posh. There was a slight mix up with one of my comrades who was supposed to be in the same hotel, but his room was double booked. The staff however, handled this well and transferred him to another(better!) hotel. Breakfast was lovely! For the first time in my life, someone called me 'madam' seriously! The Earl grey tea was wonderful, the sausages were lovely as was the bacon. My only criticism was that there were no 'tattie scones'. I'd definitely stay here again, if I wasn't paying for ot myself! read more

As far as city centre hotels go this is a very beautiful one, with lovely decor and a great central location. Food is excellent and everything is to a very high standard. My only gripes are that the staff are rather rude, clearly on a low wage, as they don't seem to care at all about their job. The rooms are really quite expensive considering the choice you have in Leeds city centre. The parking is paid-for - £10 a night! (You'd at least expect residents to get free parking when rooms are £100+ a night). Just 5 minutes away you can stay at the premier inn, OK not as luxurious but half the price with free parking. A nice place for a dinner, special night or works do, but for a general city centre hotel, shop around as you can get cheaper. read more

Plush hotel in the centre of Leeds. Spacious and with friendly staff, this building has a bit of character and represents reasonable value for money. A good place to stay on business but it's a bit too unhomely for a romantic break. The food is good, although a bit overpriced. read more
