DO NOT PLACE YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!
Approximately 10 months ago my sister in law moved into the Meadows at Escalante. Over the months she enjoyed making friends and found some of the staff friendly. Since she was in Independent Living and needed no assistance. Unfortunately, staff would come into her room unannounced (one knock on the door) and empty her trash, inform her of activities, clean her room, fix something etc. Once she was in the bathroom and someone was just entering her space unannounced. She finally had to put a sign on her door to leave her alone so she could have privacy in the room she was paying for.
There were two washers and dryers on her floor and one washer and one dryer had been broken since she moved in. It was inconvenient to wait for a washer, but since she had settled in, she just put up with the inconvenience. When she first moved in there was a chef who prepared the meals. After a while the chef quit and he was not replaced. The food declined drastically. Some of the waitresses were rude and made you wait if you ordered a sandwich instead of the meal of the day. Once so many people didn't want what was on the menu that they all ordered sandwiches and it took 45 minutes to make the sandwiches.
About 3 months ago my sister-in-law's cousin came to the facility to live. She had been in a mental facility in Northern Utah - the police had been called on her 3 times for beating up her husband. Once at the facility she did have an episode where the staff had to stay with her 24 hours a day for a couple of days. While she was living at the Meadows, she would come to my sister-in-law's room daily, multiple times a day. She would get in my sister-in-law's face and wouldn't leave her room. During this time, she also beat up her son and was taken to jail. My sister-in-law was afraid of her and my husband called Tom (manager of the Meadows) to see if something could be done with the cousin - whose needs were more than just "assistance" but she needs mental health care. Tom informed my husband that there was nothing they could do because she had done nothing while at the facility...which was not true! Having a mental episode and verbally assaulting my sister-in-law were incidents that should have been taken into consideration. Tom also didn't ever follow through and call the cousin's son to verify her mental status like he promised he would.
Just to make sure everything was being done to handle the cousin and hoping something could be done so my sister-in-law could remain because of the friends she had already made, I even called the corporate office. 760-547-2864. I called several times on two separate days, left many messages, and no one answered or ever called me back.
My sister-in-law said her aides were great but management were mostly unfriendly.
When my sister-in-law first moved in there was a resident who threw food on her - nothing was done. There is a man who rams into people with his scooter - nothing is done. Nothing is done with my sister-in-law's cousin.
After all this and wanting to feel safe, my sister-in-law had to find accommodations elsewhere. Her situation was not taken into consideration at all. She has now paid rent at two facilities because she had to give the Meadows a month's notice before she moved.
Before my sister-in-law moved and still had time on her rent for the room, she visited her sister and locked the door with her belongings in it. When she returned, the lights were on in the room and her things had been disturbed. No one should have been going through her things or entering her apartment without a good reason and without my sister-in-law being informed!
This facility is old, food is bad, waitresses are rude, management is unresponsive to your needs, allow mentally unbalanced people to roam around without supervision. As I said DO NOT PUT YOUR LOVED ONE HERE FOR CARE - YOU WILL BE SORRY! read more
