I am so incredibly grateful to Amanda at Mamahood for helping me with my lactation support because my initial lactation consultant made me feel and believe that my nursing journey was over it like six weeks. Now I'm going on eight months of nursing, my baby thanks to Amanda's help. Amanda helped me with a newborn and continue to help me with our baby. I'm not even sure how Mamahood doesn't have five stars. I went through lactation support groups and classes and had a different lactation consultant before finding Mamahood and struggled so hard. I wish I would've started with Mamahood to begin with. I see a lot of other reviews that are upset because their baby got diagnosed with tongue ties from Mamahood and their pediatrician or another doctor didn't catch the tongue tie, but I'm here to say that Mamahood caught my babies ties EVEN though OUR PEDIATRICIAN didn't think my baby had them. Well, after we saw a pediatric dentist and got my baby's ties cut - everything was so much better. My milk supply went up and my baby was able to eat better even out of a bottle. Getting my babies ties cut was a really hard decision in the moment but one of the best decisions we've done for her and I am so thankful for Mamahood for leading me in the right direction. read more

First of all, I want to mention how cute this shop is. It's bright and clean and the staff are always so nice. In addition to having an adorable selection of maternity clothes- seriously going in makes me want to get pregnant again just so I can shop there- they have a delightful alcove of toys my son adores. I've been taking my almost 2 year old son to Toddler and Momma yoga on Friday mornings for almost 6 months and we love it! I my past before baby life I went to yoga classes several times a week, but now that I have a little guy and limited childcare, I've had to content myself to my daily quick morning practice. Although it's not the same as an adult class, it's a great opportunity to introduce a little one to yoga, and as mine says, "see babies and mommies" (and sometimes daddies too). I always appreciate how Miss Casey, the instructor, sets a casual, fun mood for the class with fun songs and movement for the kids. My son likes it too, and lately has been peppering our days with his favorite snippets from class, and ever time we drive by The Mama'hood, he points and says his name, followed by mommy go yoga. The Mama'hood came highly recommended to me. After my first consultation the person I met with told me that I should order a handful of different flanges size 15 and 18 ml, which I did. After giving birth I went to start my pumping journey and realized that while she had told me to order the flanges for my spectra pump, she failed to mention the attachments that I would also need in order for them to work. When i reached out to her, i never received a response. It was then time for my in-home visit to which Dana came over and quit literally saved the day. She was so helpful and accommodating and when I told her how much i was producing while pumping (it was not a lot) the first question she asked is "what flange size are you using??". When she saw that I was using 15 and 18 ml she was quick to determine that was the problem. She suggested that I order size 21 as these were way too small. Frustrating that the other consultant suggested sizes that were way to small (and not to mention how much I had spent on all of these parts), but so grateful that Dana was there to help me determine a better size. She also suggested some supplements to help increase my supply. Boy did my supply increase! I went from stressing literally every day, how i was going to feed my baby to now being able to freeze some of my milk! I feel so accomplished because of Dana. If it weren't for her, I would have given up long ago. Cannot recommend Dana enough! Shes incredible and made me feel so comfortable as a first time mom! read more

The mama'hood is an either love it or hate it place in my opinion. I have had both experiences here and think that it just isn't for me. During a Lactation class I got so many great tips and generally left feeling like I could totally do this new Mom thing. I did however have prior knowledge about the consultants here diagnosing everyone with tongue ties so I made it clear from the first moment that I was working with a Lactation consultant from Belly Bliss (whom they know doesn't believe in surgery) and they never once mentioned it to me as a solution. Instead I got great tips on positioning and left feeling wonderful. I told everyone I knew that this was a great learning experience and if they needed some support to try it out. Fast forward a few months and I have now taken a support group/yoga and just felt a different vibe. I went to meet other moms and left feeling judged and uncomfortable. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. I am a pretty relaxed mom who doesn't care if you breastfeed, bottle feed, let your kid go exploring, or hold them the whole time. I enjoy a glass of wine once in a while (especially during potty training) and am all about Mom support because we all need a friend and a hug once in a while. I didn't leave feeling empowered this time but rather like the wind was taken out of my sail. Maybe I shared too much or the ladies who go here aren't my tribe but regardless I don't want to walk through those doors again. I would caution people from buying a package here. You want to try it out first and make sure you jive with the other moms. I personally have had better luck a Belly Bliss and it's worth the extra driving time for me. I know they have been working together to provide classes but I think I will avoid the mama'hood going forward. read more

What our family loves about the Mamhood: -prenatal yoga. My wife loves the classes they had -daddy boot camp. Great class that should be required for any new Dad -intro to solid classes- great tips on getting our little one started on solids What we did not like: -breastfeeding support group. The person that taught my wife's class was very opinionated, and told half the women in the room that their kids needed surgery for tongue ties. I'm sorry but half of the kids in a huge room don't need surgery. Wife came back upset from a group that was supposed to be supportive and helpful. It was not. Our actual doctor said our kid was fine and didn't need surgery afterward. Not a great experience. I booked into their new mom class today. I drove the 30 mins to Denver, which I was very anxious about as a first time mom this is the furtherest I have traveled since giving birth 4 weeks ago. I was worried my baby would have a meltdown in the car but I really needed the adult interaction so I persevered. I arrived to find out that the class had been canceled... I did not receive an email or call to notify me of the cancelation. For context I had booked and paid for the class so they knew I was coming and my contact information, I wasn't just dropping in without a reservation. The lady at the desk said "sorry" but I really didn't feel she meant it. She seemed irritated by my disappointment. It was like she didn't emphasize at all with the postpartum anxiety of a first time mom leaving the house solo with a newborn. Surprising given the purpose of this store. I was told that all she could do was offer me a refund... given they canceled the class I would expect a refund was automatic but apparently not. Unfortunately this wasn't my first disappointing experience. In March I called into the store to reserve an item and was told I could pick it up next day, I live 30 mins away as mentioned so I confirmed a pick up time on the phone. I arrived the next day and there was a sign on the store door saying they were unexpectedly closed for the day. I gave them the benefit of the doubt at the time but after another waste of my time today I felt the need to leave this review. read more

As a grandma ( bubbe ) I enjoyed my visit to this store. Lots of lovely items to buy for babies and/or moms. Tea shop next door, convenient for after a session, which was very supportive especially for new moms. Amanda was so attentive and made specific suggestions to each mom. This is a great studio for new mamas and expecting parents! They have a variety of classes- prenatal, baby and me, toddler and me and many workshops. I personally have only been to the baby and me yoga classes... each instructor offers a very different take, some include the babies in the entire class, others attempt to flow with the mamas and let babes sleep through the class. So whatever you are looking for, someone is there to teach it. I look forward to taking the baby led weaning workshop when the time comes, they also offer breastfeeding support and first aid/cpr. The store is super cute, they have baby clothes and cloth diapers, nursing clothes and prenatal clothes! read more

The mama'hood came highly recommended by my midwife group and I was excited to see their wide range of classes and connection opportunities! We enrolled our parents in the Grandparent class, which they're very excited about and I was thrilled when my supportive husband signed up for Daddy Bootcamp. I do have to say that although he came out of Bootcamp with 3 pages of notes, his biggest takeaways that I have been hearing continuously for the last month were: 1) a hospital bag is just for Instagram influencers, you don't need it. 2) child birth isn't actually painful for the mom, but more of an "intense pressure" I'm going to be honest here, this is our first kid so I'm one of those people who is going to comment without actual experience. I don't think the class should be outlining what the woman's pain experience is going to be like. Every woman is different and that is the last thing we need to hear about from our husbands as we struggle with 3rd trimester labor anxiety & eventually actual labor. Also, the hospital bag is directly contradictory to everything I've read and been told by friends, family and my care providers. It is not just for "Instagram" and while I don't plan on bringing all my makeup and 7 outfits. I would like to be able to pack a change of underwear and my toothbrush without having an argument with my husband. I understand everyone is different, but as a pregnant woman it would be more helpful to hear supportive or empathizing things from my husband rather than information on what my experience is like. They should look at the class structure spend some time focusing on that. read more

I've now been to the mama'hood for a variety of services. Let me tell you, each one has solidified the sense of community I feel when I go here. I initially visited because my newborn and I were having trouble breastfeeding. I attended a breastfeeding support group, and there was such a feeling of sisterhood, that I didn't want to leave. I didn't get all my questions answered though, so I scheduled a private consult with Gina. She was super helpful and gave me a lot of tips and things to try. Breastfeeding takes a lot of trial and error, and A LOT of patience. Gina had great insight and reassured me that I could do it. I then rented a hospital grade breast pump from mama'hood. It was a super easy process--you just walk up to the counter and ask for one. They take your info and you bring it back when you're done. Most recently, my husband and I attended the starting solids class. It was great. It was awesome to hear from a registered dietitian, Kelly, that knows the science of these things, that the approach we want to take with starting solids with our son is safe and isn't that weird. We'll definitely be attending more classes here! read more

Sherri, the lactation consultant at the Mamahood, absolutely saved us on our second day home from the hospital. Our 6-day old baby wasn't breastfeeding well at all, hand jaundice, was losing weight, and wasn't sleeping. We called Mamahood and they got us in to see Sherri 40 minutes later! Sherri was super kind and thoughtful - and best of all, her advice on feeding our baby worked amazingly well! Two days later, he's eating a ton during every feeding, sleeping a lot more, and gaining a lot of weight. We will not be googling and seeking tons of opinions on feeding anymore - we're just listening to Sherri now. Also - she was so kind to text us several times following up. Shari Howie has been a lifesaver lactation consultant! I was about ready to give up breastfeeding a few days after we got home from the hospital (felt like my nipples were going to atrophy and fall off), thank God I set that appointment when I did. Breastfeeding on week 5 now and baby is doing great. Encountered a few different challenges along our breastfeeding journey (latching issues, monitoring baby's weight, overactive letdown, etc.) that needed to be managed and we would not have been able to tackle these without Shari. She's our guru-- incredibly kind and knowledgeable, and provides top-level care and support whenever we need. New mamas -- def recommend! read more

I met up with a group of pregnant ladies here for prenatal yoga. Most of us hadn't signed up prior and there was a bigger group of us than expected. They staff were really great in accommodating us. The yoga studio room was tight but we managed quite well. It is only $16 for a drop in visit. The instructor was great, really nice and knowledgable. The one thing I didn't love about the session was the emotional aspect. I like to do yoga for strength and to leave reality behind me, not to bring me to tears in class. Parking was a little unclear on the website but there was minimal parking around the back, minimal spaces out the front and otherwise it's just finding the best street parking you can. There was a school or church across the street so I got a spot there, not sure if that space would have been available on the weekdays though. read more

I went to an"open house" after I called over the phone and was told about it. I showed up and was told that there was a class and needed to wait for someone to talk to me. When I asked specifically about the open house, the lady explained that whomever was supposed to be there to talk didn't showed up. (I would have like to know that upfront) The young lady in the front desk proceeded to offer me a GLASS OF WINE while I wait. I told her I was pregnant... This young woman said confidently "IT IS PROVEN that pregnant women can have 1 glass of wine" 1 She didn't know anything about me, 2 my medical history or 3 my pregnancy but she went ahead and offered alcohol to me!! The first lesson I learned when I was a PHD student 11 years ago was that in science you NEVER prove anything. You establish correlations and effect sizes! Lol When someone uses the word "prove" it only shows their ignorance. Now this women felt empowered to tell a complete stranger to drink alcohol while pregnant and use pseudoscience to back it up. Talk about first impressions... So I guess I won't be coming back to this place. read more

I love the mama'hood. I had to take away a star for the lactation group. First let me start by saying I love the prenatal yoga they offer here (five stars). It's fantastic and such a good way to get to know other expecting mamas. Also love the retail selection. It's a nice community and overall a good resource. But I will caution women against their lactation support (one star). When I went, the IBCLC leading the group first falsely maligned Rose's (free!) lactation support group (Monday's at one, look it up) claiming they were not certified lactation consultants, which they are. That was the first red flag. Second, she tried to say my baby had a bad "suck" and various kinds of tongue and lip ties. This is despite him gaining an ounce a day and transferring over 3 ounces of milk at each feeding (he's three weeks old). It really had me worried. I almost booked a consult with a pediatric dentist believing I had a tongue tied baby. Yet I had second thoughts not least because he was eating fine and could stick his tongue out... So I went to get a second opinion (at Rose) and was told my baby's suck was absolutely fine. In reality I have a fast letdown which was causing the problems I complained of. In other words, the solution was very simple and low tech. I can't explain why; but in my experience they are very over eager to diagnose tongue ties here. (And to recommend certain dentists to help remedy the problem). The Rose consultants agreed with me on this and said they often field calls from moms freaked out by a visit to the lactation group at mama hood. Of course some babies have ties but I was not impressed by the lactation support I received here. They also recommended infant cranio sacral therapy which further research revealed is most likely junk science/bogus. My advice: take their lactation suggestions with a huge grain of salt and get a second opinion!! Also why pay $16 for the class when both Rose and Kaiser offer free support?? read more

I am writing a review for one of their lactation consultants, Shari Howie. I was referred to Shari when my son was 3 weeks old and we could not figure out what was wrong with him. Shari worked with us to determine that my milk supply was low and my son was losing weight because he was hungry. She put me on a rigorous schedule of triple feeding to help get my supply up, and it worked wonders! She saved me at a time when I was ready to give up on breastfeeding. It wasn't easy, but with her support I was able to get through it and am able to exclusively give my son breast milk. She's extremely friendly, helpful, and non judgmental. She's a mother so knows firsthand how hard it is at the beginning and showed me incredible compassion at a time when I was drowning. I highly recommend Shari as a LC!! You won't regret it. read more

This place has some great resources and community for moms and women expecting. I absolutely recommend the prenatal yoga classes, and my husband enjoyed his daddy boot camp class. I do not recommend the breast feeding support group. Go to one of the free ones at a hospital instead. The teacher of the class at the mama'hood told over half of the the new moms that their kiddo has a lip tie or tongue tie and probably needed surgery. I don't feel like she had the expertise to do that or the research to back it up. When I took my son to our dentist, she said that he did not have a lip or tongue tie. I only went to the breastfeeding support group to get a weight check on my baby, and I left feeling sad, stressed, and anxious. The teacher caused a lot of unnecessary stress to a new mom. I also attended their introducing solids class. Although, there was some helpful information, I felt like the instructor had an all or nothing approach to feeding. She basically said baby led weaning is the only way to feed your kids, and not to do purées. I like the baby led weaning approach, but I also think it's ok to do both. I love the idea of this place, but had a couple of bad experiences, and several good experiences there- so just be cautious and trust your mama intuition! read more

The Mother'hood has been a great resource for me and our new family. We have utilized the pre-natal yoga, birthing, breastfeeding classes, and breastfeeding group. I love having this much help and experience so close by! I have learned so much from the other Moms and teachers that are a part of this establishment. My pregnancy and our son's first few weeks would have been very different without the Mother'hood. It's not only about the folks that work there, but the Mom's that attend the classes, as well. A lot of them have so much to share. If you are having an issue with breastfeeding, HIGHLY recommend the breastfeeding group. If not, you should still go! There are kids of all ages and stages and I learn something each time I attend, even though my "issues" pale in comparison to some. They say it takes a village...I have found the Mother'hood to be part of that "village". read more

Update-- I've been to a few classes and groups, as well as utilized their lactation consultant, Amanda. Every experience has been top notch. Baby & me yoga is fantastic, the instructors are knowledgeable and make it a great experience for mom and baby. Play group is well organized, clean, and a good group of kids. Breast feeding support group is essential if you are having any questions or problems with nursing. And they also have various workshops and classes that change periodically. I've been for 2 different things here. One was a session on nannies and nanny shares prenatally. It was a great session and super helpful in helping me get myself organized for childcare. I also have been to post-natal yoga. It was the best mommy and me yoga I've taken in Denver because we actually did yoga! It was awesome to sweat and involve my baby in the poses. Wow! I am SO glad I found this place. My baby is 12 days old and we have been struggling a bit with some latching issues. My friend who is a Lactation Consultant in California was helping me but she recommended that I find someone local to look at his latch and help us get into a good groove. I felt lost... I looked online at different certified lactation consultants in town and it was overwhelming. Then I saw that Mama'hood has lactation services and good reviews. I got in touch with Amanda right away and she was able to get me in within three days! Our consult with Amanda lasted an hour and a half. She gave us incredible advice for his latch, vitamin recommendations for both mom and baby based on our birth experience (antibiotics, etc that we both got after he was born), she noted the beginning of a candida issue on his little tush and gave us a fix, and she was able to help us see that my supply wasn't increasing enough to keep the little guy growing. He was maintaining but not growing... so she gave us a plan to follow which has already started working (24 hours later). I can't wait to check in with her at the group meeting next week and see how he is doing. Amanda has really made this overwhelming time and experience so much better/easier/calmer. She also gave us the paperwork needed to get it covered by insurance. I do have to say, the vaxx comments make me nervous and will make me think twice about bringing (and staying with) the little peanut if someone there is sick but so far, my experience with them has been phenomenal. read more

It's good to finally see a business in this location that has a chance of making it. I went for the Thursday 1:00 to 2:00 breast feeding group because I was having issues with latching. I went online and pre-registered, it was $10 for a "drop-in" rate. I got there early and was glad I did because the class we completely full. My favorite part was getting to weigh my little guy before and after feeding to see how much he is getting. It really gave me confidence that we are doing ok. I also enjoyed hearing the issues other mothers are having, it really put things into perspective for me and made me feel better about our situation. I also had a chance to browse the products which were pretty in line with most baby stores and moderately priced. I was disappointed that they didn't have a cloth diapering selection. I will be back for the baby and me yoga class. My only issue is the $10 fee it feels a little steep but that could just be me. read more

What would I do without the Mama'hood? Although I'm not claiming to be a completely well-adjusted super mom, I would be far less so if it weren't for the Mama'hood. There's a terrifying gap in "community" when you become a mom. Maybe you're working, maybe you're not, but for sure you're wondering what the hell to do with your life + baby. The Mama'hood has helped fulfill a sense of fellowship I've needed as I've transitioned into motherhood and given me concrete skills to help make my life with baby more manageable. Breastfeeding ain't as easy as it looks and Amanda Ogden is a fabulous resource to help demystify how to put those boobies to work. I attended her breastfeeding class at Mountain Midwifery and then sat in on a breastfeeding support group at the Mama'hood before and after I delivered my daughter. Both were so helpful in setting my expectations for breastfeeding and letting me know I'd have a safety net when things got tough. Since then, I've participated in the sleep support group and taken a class on baby led weaning. Both have given me confidence to follow my intuition as a parent and do what works for us. Simply hearing that sort of encouragement can go a long way for making new parents like us feel like we won't irrevocably screw up their kid. My only wish is that the classes and groups were a little more affordable. They barely fit into my budget, but I try to make them happen because they do some much good for me and my family. EVERYONE needs a sense of community and I assume there are many people who aren't able to enjoy this valuable resource because of the prices. If this is what they need to charge in order to make a profit and stick around though, I'm okay with that because I value the Mama'hood that much. read more

I walked in the store hoping to find something that made being miserably pregnant more comfortable. I was wearing frumpy clothes bc that's all that fit me. The ladies in the store looked at me and didn't say a word. I felt uncomfortable and started to check out the store. A lady dressed head to toe in stylish Patagonia walked it and was immediately greeted with, "hello! How can we help you?" "Welcome to Mamahood!" Guess you have to have money to be greeted? I left. I've had mixed experiences at the Mama'hood. I have gone there for both prenatal yoga and breastfeeding support for my newborn. Prenatal Yoga: If I had just gone there for prenatal yoga with Rebecca Peterson, I would have given the Mama'hood 5 stars. Rebecca's classes, especially the Saturday morning classes, were just what I needed during the third trimester of my pregnancy when I was experiencing sacroiliac joint pain. I appreciated both the physical and emotional support that the class provided. It was much needed during this emotional journey of my first pregnancy. Breastfeeding: A private consultation with Gina, a lactation consultant at the Mama'hood, was initially very helpful when my week-old baby wasn't gaining weight. The cost of the consultation was exorbitant, I've since learned. Most lactation consultants charge about $60.00 for a one-hour session. Our meeting with Gina cost $165.00 for 90 minutes, and at the time it was worth it. This connection with the Mama'hood breastfeeding supports let me to attend a weekly breastfeeding support group for ongoing help and weight checks. My initial experience at the breastfeeding support group felt positive. The second meeting, however, made me realize that this was NOT the group for me. Amanda, the lead lactation consultant at the Mama'hood, told me, after only a two or three second glance at my three week old infant, that he needed craniosacral therapy (chiropractic care) for "low oral tone." He sticks his tongue out after he feeds in what we had always called his "full-tank, milk-drunk expression." We had always thought it was so cute and that he was perfect. Amanda told me that it wasn't "normal" for a baby to stick his tongue out like that. She proceeded to refer me to a physical therapist to get this craniosacral therapy done on him, and asked me to tell the therapist that she referred me to get a "deal." This sent me reeling. At first I believed her that something was wrong. I worried about it for more than a week. Then I asked my pediatrician about this and she said that 1) there is nothing wrong with my son, and 2) there is no medical support for craniosacral therapy, even if there were something wrong with him. (The previous week at the breastfeeding class, my son had transferred 4oz of milk in an hour, which tells me that he doesn't have any issues with his mouth, and this was confirmed my son's doctor.) My son's doctor was furious that someone would recommend that we get chiropractic care for a three week old baby. She asked me where I had gone to get this advice and said she would never recommend the Mama'hood BF consultants after hearing this. A friend of mine had a similar experience with Amanda at the Mama'hood BF support group. Amanda declared that my friend's son was tongue tied after a very short glance at him and referred her to another one of her "buddies" to have surgery done. An evaluation by my friend's son's pediatrician also revealed that there was nothing wrong with her son either. She didn't get the surgery and her son is successfully breastfeeding. It's dangerous to have people who are not doctors creating off-the-cuff diagnoses for infants and recommending unnecessary procedures, especially after spending little to no time with those moms and babies. As new mothers, we are incredibly vulnerable to "expert" opinions, which could lead us to make poor decisions for our children. If you go to this breastfeeding group, be cautious of the "diagnoses" of the lactation consultants, and be wary of their referrals to other practitioners. I recommend going to another group where the lactation consultants spend more time with you and your baby and assess the issue using medically backed advice. Most hospitals have support groups and private lactation consultants that base their advice on sound medical research. read more

My wife loves this place. She has visited for lactation support, and she was very pleased with her experience. While the mother 'hood offers lots of classes and groups, they also have a small boutique with some unique baby items. So, despite the name, men can come in, too. When I stopped in with my wife, we snagged a couple of aden+anais blankets that are hard to find (they are not like the cotton muslin blankets Target carries). The service was great--friendly and not snobby. The other great thing is our pediatrician (Pediatric Pathways) has started doing well baby appointments here. After my prenatal yoga class with Rebecca Peterson this morning, I wanted to share my experience. The Mama'hood has many classes and this review pertains only to one instructor of their prenatal classes. Today was my second class with Rebecca. Last week, I was one of the first people to arrive at the studio. The receptionist checked me in, had me sign a waiver, showed me where class would be, and pointed out the restroom. This week, as I checked in, I specifically asked the receptionist, "am I all set?" She replied that I was and as I stepped through the door of the studio, Rebecca asked, "Did they tell you about your boots?" I said that they hadn't and asked if I needed to remove them before entering to which she said, "Well, this IS a yoga studio." I was not aware that removing your shoes was protocol in a studio setting. If Rebecca had said, "yes, we actually prefer that you do remove your shoes because yada yada yada..." I would have completely understood. I felt her rude tone was completely uncalled for, especially to a paying customer. The yoga itself is fine, but I don't need the attitude. I'll be using the remainder of my punchcard at a class with a different instructor. read more

I started attending the Mama'Hood for prenatal yoga on a friend's recommendation when I was pregnant with my daughter. I attended Rebecca's Saturday morning class regularly throughout my pregnancy and would highly recommend it. Rebecca is warm and gracious, and I right from the start I felt very welcome in her class. The yoga was a great pace, and I loved the sense of camaraderie from the group discussions. I loved that no one was ever pressured to share, but everyone was welcome to. Postnatal, I've attended a handful of Baby and Me yoga classes, which are also great. The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is that the couple times I've shopped the boutique, no one has offered help. It would be nice if someone was more available to help out with the products. Overall, a great resource for new or expectant mamas. Check it out! read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. No one is ever around to help when you walk into the store. There's hardly anything there, the staff was super rude when they finally paid attention to me, and topped off the horrible experience by adding me to their email list. I would never recommend anyone go there, especially if you do not have a ton of disposable resources and infinite time to wait for services. I know the neighborhood is changing, and there's no way this place is friendly to anyone actually from the Northside. read more

Amanda Ogden is fantastic! I had problems breast-feeding my daughter and was concerned before my son was born that I would have problems again. A friend recommended I talk to Amanda. She was amazing! I felt so comfortable talking to her. I explained what had happened with my first baby. She was honest and told me that, because I likely had a physical problem that reduces the milk-producing tissue, I would probably have problems again. She worked with me to come up with a plan that was entirely focused on what was realistic for me. We talked about doing what worked for as long as it worked, and not feeling guilty when it quit working. When I had problems the first time around, I felt that I just wasn't trying hard enough, and that there was no way that I could do everything that was being asked of me to try to increase production. It felt so demoralizing and frustrating! Amanda was so reassuring--that I was a good mom regardless of breast feeding issues, that I could try my best and no harder, and that whatever happened, it would be ok. It was true, I was still very short of milk for my son, but I felt that with Amanda's help, I tried everything I could. I was able to breastfeed him more than I had been able to with my daughter, so that was very rewarding. I really appreciated being talked to like an intelligent person instead of a wayward child. I appreciated that she was honest with me about potential problems without making me feel guilty or hopeless abou them. I appreciate that the plan we came up with was realistic. I appreciated that she took my concerns seriously. I have recommended Amanda to several friends and feel that she really is the best in Denver! read more

Prenatal yoga: I have an advanced yoga practice and was hoping to find a few classes that were challenging but modified in a way that made them safe for pregnancy. In fact, most of the classes here involve sitting in a sharing circle for a looong time and then eventually doing a short sequence of basic poses. There's a decent level 2 class, but it's only offered at 8am on Saturdays (miserable when you have morning sickness or third trimester sleep deprivation.) Lactation support: Amanda's lactation group got me through a rough period when my baby was jaundiced and not eating effectively in the first week, and provided me emotional support and suggestions that got me through 2 weeks of brutal cluster feeding shortly thereafter. I am very grateful. However, my son's pediatrician disagreed with most of the advice I got from Amanda, and in the end striking a balance between the two is what worked for me long term. Go in knowing that The Mama'hood veers toward a certain end of the spectrum. If what you're told here doesn't feel right for you, don't hesitate to seek another opinion. Bonus that if you're new to baby wearing, you can walk in anytime with your carrier and the staff will show you how to put it on properly. My baby appreciates all the hours spent in the knock-off Boba wrap that had mystified me. read more

Every community should have a place like this. It is awesome help for breastfeeding, parenting, baby wearing, and any other question a new parent might have (or even experienced parents). I go out of my way at least twice a week to go to their classes. Every employee is very helpful and knowledgable and friendly. I love this place. read more

I have been going to the breastfeeding groups at Mother'Hood. Amanda Ogden is incredible- warm, accepting and very knowledgeable. She provides a safe environment to talk about not only breast feeding, but also the challenges of being a mother to a newborn (breastfeeding, lack of sleep, support, etc.). This group was a real life saver for me the first 8 weeks of my son's life.The group also usually lasts at least 2 hours for only $10 which I found to be very reasonable. I haven't checked out their other classes, but I hear that they are worthwhile too. read more

So far I'm really enjoying my time here (Denver). The teachers have all been lovely and it's been great to just be around som either moms and soon to be moms. I live in Evergreen and haven't found something quite like this up there. My only reason for giving it 4 instead of 5 stars is I'd like to walk away w a little more knowledge about safe and useful poses and moves for my changing body. We spend the whole time doing a few stretches and talking, which I appreciate (a lot) but I'd love some more in depth work. read more
