We were offered a tasting to choose our menu selections and everything tasted amazing. Our wedding guests raved about the quality and taste of our dinner at the wedding. We were told multiple times that the food was "the best wedding food they had ever had!" Summerland also provided late night snacks for us upon request which was an extra addition by me. Mike was more than happy to help make that come to life for us and it tasted equally as delicious as dinner. I would HIGHLY recommend Summerland catering and Mike for any of your future catering needs. We cannot say enough positive things about our experience with them.

Voila' first came to my attention several years ago when I noticed that they were the ones working…read morethe classiest events around Portland. (I am a professional musician.) One of the things that made them stand out for me was that they always made a point to set aside a tray at the end of the gig for the musicians - that kind of courtesy was unusual, and the food was amazing! Based on those experiences, I hired them to cater a fundraising event for our youth symphony, and they were great to work with in every way. They kept us within our budget and everyone raved about the food. Several years later when it came time to hire a caterer for my wedding, there was no question in my mind that I wanted Voila'. Still, my husband-to-be was living in CA, so I set up a tasting so that he could decide if he wanted to try other places, or go with them. No question - after trying the food it was Voila' all the way! I've seen negative reviews on this site. Is Jonathan opinionated? Yes, but there is good reason for that. They take their food seriously, and they have been doing this for a long time, so they know what works. Now they are also doing event rentals, and I found it to be cost-effective as well as more efficient to also order the linens and such from them that our venue did not provide. I really appreciated his input and did not find his manner off-putting. In fact, he even agreed to meet with me again when I was questioning my choices on the menu! Of course, in my field I am accustomed to strong personalities, and I don't take offense at someone who is passionate about what they do. Everything they did at the reception was STELLAR. Everything they served was scrumptious, and their excellent serving staff made sure that everything was smooth and trouble-free. Delivery/clean-up was flawless. Since they make everything to order, they do not do buffets, so if that is what you are looking for, this isn't the place for you. If you want organization, exquisite flavors and something really special - call Voila'.

While our event was just a big catered party for friends/family/neighbors, I can't imagine what is must have been like for the unfortunate couples who have crossed paths with them when trying to put together their special wedding day. The themes that emerge in others' reviews below sum up our experience with Viola Catering nicely: Alisabeth S.: "RUDE.... Don't waste your time." Luana V.: "If you value your time and have any self-respect, I recommend staying far away from this business...Their salesman (or owner?) spent 90% of the time we were there patronizing us and speaking poorly about the competition" Marjorie R.: "...constant name dropping and excessive story telling by Jonathan...I mention that we have hired a wedding planner...Jonathan asks me how much we spent.  I uncomfortably answer X dollars.  He says, "you have wasted X dollars," ...and he "would rather walk (us) out than work with a wedding planner." This is a huge disappointment to us.  I try to ascertain whether they will work with one if they are given "the power" on the day of but instead he continues to make condescending comments and insult us.  We were invited to stay for dinner but we walked out on them instead." Kang Z.: "I hate to bitch about anyone but really really want to share how bad the experience could be with them. The smaller guest number you have, the less respect you will receive...They don't want any feedback from client. It seems they're just so proud on what they do and either you take whatever they offer you on menu and price or you will be just humiliated! I have to say that is the worst experience I ever ever had before. Again so regretful that didn't read review first." Hannah B.: "Very poor service, I needed a caterer and was abruptly told I could "NEVER" work with them because I already had a wedding planner. Very rude and abrupt, work on your customer service skills!!!!!! Would never hire or recommend them to anyone!" Sarah L.: "Terrible! Jonathan is a pompous ass! Don't waste your time!"

You will not be tasting what you want at your event, first red flag. I did not want anything even similar to bbq but apparently that was all I was allowed to taste because they had made some that day. Were we tasting part of another clients order on their dime? Probably. Complimented the bbq sauce, was told it's STORE BAUGHT and they just add to it. She was extremely rude, talking down to myself, my Fiance, and our 2 friends that joined (clearly was not okay even though I said I would have friends joining) my Fiance asked how they ensure the chicken (we wanted a chicken option) was not dry and she told us "sometimes chicken is just dry". Told us our guests that drank alcohol would all be carded and watched very closely like children. I wanted to have my own table decor to match everything else, hard no from her. This was the worst experience EVER. I could do a better job for a fraction of the cost. Even if you are on a hard budget do yourself a favor and just do the food yourself, you'll do a better job.

I was feeling down, defeated, and I just wanted decent food that wasn't going to break the bank. After speaking with Stephanie, I was starting to feel hopeful again - they created a custom menu that honored our heritage, and they did so at an affordable price. My husband and I come from different cultural backgrounds, and we wanted the food at our wedding to reflect that. He is Irish and Italian and I'm Filipino, so there's not much overlap in dishes, but Chef Paul worked his magic. The starters, main dishes, and sides worked so well together, and our guests absolutely loved it all. They were easy to work with, thoughtful, and responsive to all our requests and questions. For them to take care of us in such short notice was incredible. Thank you, Stephanie and Chef Paul! The food at a wedding is pivotal to the experience, and you guys knocked it out of the park. We literally have a printed copy of the menu in our wedding keepsake box. We are looking forward to any opportunity to work with again in the future.

I highly recommend ordering from them, especially if you live towards the south side. Occasionally, they will deliver to the Seattle area. For their events, they make all sorts of foods, many high end; their photos are gorgeous. I pre-coordinated with him on how our family plan to eat the food, and he delivered the foods with just the right amount of "doneness" to allow for re-heating. The foods: A) Seafood Dinner, meant for party of 4, can easily feed 6 This was excellent!! The serving is generous with 4 good size pieces of hazelnut crusted salmon, plenty of blackened shrimps, Caesar salad, lots of roasted veggies, lots of country mashed Yukon potatoes. So fantastic! We ended up eating the salmon with salad, plus some veggies and potatoes. The blackened shrimps became 2 additional entrees. The most exciting flavors are his sauces. The salmon comes with a delicious apricot glaze. The blackened shrimp comes with a blackcurrant cocktail sauce that is insanely good. B) Braised Angus Stroganoff, meant for 4, can easily feed 6, maybe even 8, especially if eaten with additional veggies Sizeable chunks of beef, in fresh noodles and thick cream sauce with mushrooms and peas. This is a hearty, comfort meal. C) Roasted Veggie Quesadilla, meant to be an appetizer, but it'll become 4 dinners! They delivered this uncooked and gave me simple re-heat instructions. There are an incredible amount of veggies in this and customized for me with less cheese (per my request). Excellent and healthy dish. D) Tiramisu, orange creamsicle flavor!
