We went to the Loft at the weekend. It was a rather surreal experience to be honest; since graduating we tend not to go to clubs much, favouring quiet drinks in pubs like the old people we now are. As students you tend to go out during the week when the nights are cheaper and themed more around indie music as opposed to generic club/house music. However, standing in the queue for this Saturday night at the loft were more indie hipsters and cool cats then I have seen in a long while. Lots of Buddy Holly glasses and high waisted denim shorts. I reckon most of the club were kitted out in Beyond Retro. The music was cool, unfamiliar (to me, anyway) indie tracks and some more retro tunes. There was even some heavy metal at one point which prompted a bout of moshing. It was pretty busy, which meant there was a bit of a queue at the bar. The drinks weren't too bad, bottles of Carlsburg were £2, alcopops about £2.50. Overall it was fun, a few people were a bit cooler-than-thou, but it was at least nice to go to a club night on a Saturday that isn't dominated by older people and out-of-towners. read more
