Now I didn't expect this little gem in downtown Bargo!
We have family who live at Pheasants Nest and really only ever go to a great suburban Indian restaurant town (not suburb as we are in the bush out this way), but the last couple of times we had threatened to visit they mentioned their local italian, called 'The Local Italian'.
WHAT a pleasant surprise. Attached to the Bargo BP petrol station I was thinking instantly this is going to be one of those little italian businesses who have moved into a kitchen space the landlord is desperate to rent out - wrong.
The space where 'The Local Italian' is situated in Bargo is obviously the old mechanics work shop (and not the diner) and has been completely done up and looks great. This space would have no problems fitting in trendy Newtown, Leichhardt or Surry Hills.
On to the food - fantastic! Just what I wanted from a family run Italian restaurant. All the staff were great, they knew the menu, knew the specials and they were totally in control.
With started with the salad and bruschetta pizza, but also and parmesan bread pizza with a trio of condiments - great - tasty - simple.
For main, I always have to try the gnocchi with four cheeses sauce .... and it was great.
The others at the table had spinach and ricotta cannelloni, gnocchi special with tomato and eggplant sauce and pasta with fresh tomato sauce prawns and lots of garlic.
If you are out Bargo ... ya gotta do this place. read more
