The theater needs to follow its own rules and not let kids under 3 years old into the theater. At least have children's sections only. I get that they are kids but I spent the first half of the show with a toddler kicking me, talking, whining and getting up to pee while mum was completely worthless. I missed the first half then they put me in a chair at the back of the theater (instead of moving the kid and mum) where I had the ushers going back and forth I front of me and singing along with the show. I've wanted to see The Lion King on Broadway for so long, and it did not disappoint! My mind was blown, it was so amazing! Our seats were fantastic, I was right on the end near the aisle and the animals walk down right beside you. I cried twice. The music was epic, the actors were fantastic. The theatre itself is beautiful. The theatre has an app you can download on your phone where they will deliver food and drinks to you so you don't have to wait in line. We used it and it worked like a charm. Five stars, two thumbs up, I want to go see it again! We sat in the Stalls in row E, seats 15 and 16. It was not cheap, but it was the best money we have ever spent and I will remember it forever. read more

If you see one show in London, make sure it's the Lion King. A truly sensational show at the majestical Lyceum Theatre just off of Covent Garden. The theatre itself is beautiful. The seating is really steep so you have a great view where ever you sit. It's a bit of a slog to the loos but the bar is handy,if a little expensive. The show itself is truly magical and suitable for all ages. I don't want to give too much away but I had tears in my eyes within the first five minutes. The costumes are fantastic and the music fully draws you in - taking you away from rainy London and transporting you instantly to an African savanna. The acting is great, particularly the kids, true stars of the future. I cannot recommend this show enough - go, but don't forget the tissues, you're going to cry! read more

It's my 2nd day in London of a 4 day vacation, and I'm leaving Trafalgar Square and see a huge line of people at a ticket booth. Curiosity got the best of me, and I walk up to discover it's a ticket booth to the many shows that are in London. On a spur of the moment decision, I saw the signage for The Lion King, it is truly my favorite Disney film and bought me a ticket for the matinee show for the next day. The next day, it's show time and I've already purchased my Lion King tee shirt from the gift shop, it was 12.00 Euros, and I found my seat I'm ready! WOW! From the costumes, the set designs, the dancing, the music, from start to finish, it was a very elaborate and amazing show. I'll be honest, I think I was louder than the kids! I was very pleased that I was spontaneous and bought my ticket to see the show, it was well worth taking time from my vacation to go see The Lion King! On a side note, I can now tell people, "Oh, I saw it in London!" :] read more

Oh! Dear! I am not a theatre person, and this show didn't help me. I was forced to take the wife and kids, and they enjoyed it all, but me? Nope! Just not my cup of tea. Hakuna matata! Disney's animated film has made a successful transition to the stage, retaining its cartoony feel so as to appeal to all ages The costumes are fantastic with great imagination having gone into re-creating the look, feel and movement of the various creatures represented on-stage. I think my favourite were the elephants The story follows the film closely, so be prepared for the tears as Simba's father is killed though it is handled in a sensitive way so as not to upset the younger members of the audience unduly. There is something for all ages though by definition, it probably appeals to a younger subset If you can lay your hands on a ticket, it's definitely worth watching though I have it in the second tier of musicals behind Phantom, Matilda and Les Mis read more

Ah-mah-zingly AWEsome. A definite must see show. I was gutted to miss it in Edinburgh a few years back after going to see the exhibition. When we realised we had time to go see a show last night this was top of my list. I can't believe it's taken me so long to see it. We popped into the theatre box office & manage to snag a couple of excellent seats in the stalls at a fraction of the price that online agents were selling them for (& no booking fee!) The costumes are fantastic. The set designs really capture the colours & atmosphere of the African plains & it brought back many happy memories of my Masai Mara safari. The music was great. Lots of great classics - from the film - & some new ones. You don't need to be a fan of musicals to enjoy this show. It really is a feast for the eyes and the ears. read more

If you haven't been, GO NOW!!!!! I love the movie too, the opening scene just takes your breath away... the cast are so great, the stage is ahmayzing!!! Ok so, definitely feeling like I'm going against the grain here, but honestly, I think this show is overrated. I'm sorry to everyone else, especially those who love it enough to go multiple times, but I just didn't think it was that great. I LOVE the movie, and my girlfriend is one of the biggest Disney lovers ever, and she knows the words for all the songs - just to help set the context in case you think I'm a hater. The show itself is pretty much a carbon copy of the film, including about 80% of the dialogue which means you'll know almost every single line and joke that the actors use - which isn't a huge problem in itself.... The props are fantastic, absolutely loved the entrance and seeing the birds flying around the theatre and above us, and the dancers on stage with the revolving mountain. Cannot fault that for a second, nor the singing or acting prowess of the cast who do an incredible job of embodying the animals they represent! BUT! London shows and stage shows in particular have come a LONG way from when Lion King was originally released on stage, and I think it's starting to show. The scenery and background is pretty dull (which may have been exacerbated because we were higher up and could see everything), the lack of anything particularly new in the show was disappointing, and the rehashing of the same jokes is inexcusable, in my opinion. For the same amount of money we paid, you could go watch Book of Mormon for a similar view and still have some money leftover to buy a drink/put towards dinner - and is probably one of the more disappointing stage shows I've actually ever seen in London, especially given the price. Worth seeing once, but not again, and definitely for no more than the cheapest price tickets! We came out of the theatre just wanting to watch the movie again, instead of the show, which to me, says it all! read more

As if anyone could leave this theatre show a bad review, it's such a beautiful show. The visuals and effects are spectacular and the cast were great. I'd recommend seeing The Lion King in theatre. Tickets are, as most shows are, fairly expensive but you surely won't regret it. Probably the best show I've seen, far better than Chicago, We will Rock You or Miss Saigon. I'm no big fan of musicals. While I love to go to the opera, classical music, theatre, concerts, I've always found musicals a bit grandiose in the American 'bigger is better' kind of way. The Lion King was no exception with its grand costumes (a life size man-made elephant was in the opening scene!) and completely overwhelming scenography and show. But what differentiates this one from the rest of the wanna-be shows is that the Lion King has done an exceptionally amazing job! I've never seen a show quite as beautiful as this one. The play is quite faithful to the Disney story, so it's really the costumes you're here to watch. And what is remarkable about this show is that there are basically very few 'bad' seats. In the scenography they've accounted for the seating arrangement and created a show that's beautiful from many angles and not just from the few 'good and expensive' seats. Tip: you can buy £20 standing seats and look for empty seats - if they're not filled within the first 30-45 min, you can grab these. read more

If you fancy a show and you want something you know you will like (and already know most of the songs!) then this is a very safe bet. Adapted from Disney's box office smash, The Lion King lends itself very well to the stage, and don't worry, there will be no furry onesies in sight!! Instead you will see costumes and sets that have been made and moulded around each individual performer. Some are using puppets, some are just the embodiment of their character, some are using masks and movements to create their animals but all are doing this to an amazingly high standard and you really do feel like you have been transported to a safari in Africa, especially for the opening number. If you happen to be lucky enough to sit in the stalls you will be surrounded by animals coming up the aisles in the opening number. Amazing. I remember also being in awe over the set, particularly how they created the stampede of wildebeest and made them look as if they were running straight for you and were only getting closer and closer. Sometimes you don't fancy technologies to do such a clever job and The Lion King is one of those shows that really creates life from actual sets. As for the songs, you will hear the old faves - Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata, Can't Wait to be King, Can You Feel the Love. I particular love Scars Be prepared and how they get all the Hyenas marching like in the film. But they are a number of songs you may not know unless you have seen Lion King 2 and some new one's, the most successful probably being 'He Lives In You', makes we well up even thinking about it!! The cast are strong, some beautiful male voices for older Simba and Mufasa. Some brilliant comedy acting for those playing zazu, rafiki and the hyenas. One thing you may find annoying are the children when they play young Simba and Nala. I remember finding Young Simba just a little bit irritating and yes he has to have an air about him that is a little big headed but whoever I saw was extremely in that sphere and I just thought it was too over the top. I can only say that about the one I saw though and things have changed since. Overall The Lion King is enjoyable, moving, definitely a few tissue moments, a show for all ages (I'm actually planning on taking my nan to see it soon!!), and one you definitely must not miss. I've watched this musical twice over the past 18 months, even though the second time was to surprise the bf - it was still entertaining both times. If you loved the movie, I think you will really like the musical! All the costumes were adapted wonderfully, but my favorites were Timon and Pumbaa! They were as entertaining as they were in the movie! Again, if you're a huge fan, then make sure you get an aisle seat in the stalls - I don't wanna ruin it for you, but you'll be in for a treat. read more

I went the day of the show to the box office around 8 am to stand in line for the tickets to go on sale at 9 am ( they didn't have many left at standing room price, which was by far the cheapest ) So if you are looking to score 20$ tickets this is the way to go. I surprised my mom with tickets on her last visit here and she was so thrilled you booked tickets to see it again in the States! The acting, costumes, sets and of course the animals were amazing. The opening scene just makes you want to clap and hoot and holler from all the emotion and excitement. It's just really lovely. I had seats in the back on the ground level, and they were fine! I think every seat is probably a good view as the theatre is smaller (so you will be closer) than you think. This is definitely my most recommended play in London at the moment. As a musical I hated the Lion King - the performers' voices were not up to scratch compared to those in say, Les Mis - the songs from the original soundtrack are good (but again, not as powerful due to poor delivery), and the new songs are all boring and sound like filler songs. However visually, and as a dance, it is a decent performance. Great props, passionate routines and great usage of the venue. Do it. Go. But, if you are short (I'm 5'3"), don't sit in the front row of the royal circle. Even though the website shows that your view will be unobstructed, it doesn't show the scaffolding holding the light displays there. It does say that the seats are not suitable for anyone less than 5' tall. I might say 5'6"? I had to make a booster seat from coats to see the edge of the stage (where may of the solo acts occurred). There were tons of kids. Tons. They sell snacks in loud packages and people eat them no matter what is happening on stage. Be ready for this. The atmosphere is quite casual and the cocktail drinks beforehand were wonderful (2 for 1 between 6-7pm, do it). Don't expect a fine, uppity theater experience, but do expect the best show of your life. read more

I'm not sure why this one gets so many rave reviews. I was in awe of the set design and costumes, but the actual performance was disappointing. Why? The sounds system couldn't seem to cope when more than one person was singing at a time. The story moved too slowly for me (considering the movie is 90 minutes and the musical is 2.5 hours might have something to do with this). The songs weren't as well arranged as those used in the Disney movie (and as this is a Disney production I think it is fair to compare). At times the songs felt like filler songs and didn't seem to have any feeling behind them. At times I felt like I was at a child's performance rather than a professional musical. I would recommend it as a good musical for a family to go to. read more

Many years on from Disney's Lion King and it is still recognised as one of the finest animation films. The musical had tough competition and the always present comparison factor. But it has re-created the story in a unique and utterly delightful way and the praise it has been given is all well-earned! The first time I saw Lion King the Musical was in February 2003. I loved it then and I still love it now. The Lion King is so impressive in many ways with the most creative and innovative set and lighting, a fabulous soundtrack, amazing costumes and puppetry, and a great band. Unfortunately sometimes the show is let down by the quality of the performers. The puppetry and costumers are absolutely masterful and though you can see the man/woman behind the animal it doesn't really matter and in fact lends depth to the characters on stage. There is definitely a very African feel to the whole show with all the beautiful colours one might expect. Even the grass has character! Though not consistently great performers are generally pretty brilliant with their movement and stage presence. Weaknesses seem to be in the singing - particularly with the kids and sometimes adult counterparts seemingly sometime having trouble with their pitch. Not a musical that should be missed! read more

The Lion King was on the first musicals I ever saw in the West End and it certainly wasn't a disappointment! In fact the whole experience was truly magical from start to finish. The cast offer amazing performances with wonderful singing and acting. There is live music throughout and you can even see the musician playing the bongo in one of the box seats. The characters are what makes it a truly unique musical with the actors dressed up as animals, with both costumes, masks and face paint. The most unique part would have to be the giraffes as the actors come in dressed in stilts walking like the real animal would! Definitely the best, emotional magical musical I have seen with great acting from the cast and brilliant singing. You will also hear the number ones from the film such as the circle of life. read more

For my girlfriend's birthday, I surprised her with tickets for The Lion King. She was happy at the time - and even happier once she had seen the show. A fan of the film, she loved the stage interpretation (okay, we both did). The scale of the production was huge - even if you're not sure about whether this type of show is for you, it's worth going just for the production values. We had a box to ourselves which, although classed as restricted view didn't hinder our enjoyment of the show - and we even had a member of the cast come in and join us part way through. Kids will love it whatever, but the adults should really appreciate this show. For some reason, I've been to many musicals over the years, and this was only topped by the now ended Producers - standards in West End musicals really seemed to have dropped - but not here. read more

I went to see The Lion King with my mama in December 2010. The things that stood out for me, were the different costumes, which were very intricate and detailed. The set was very impressive and flowed well with the story. The downside was that the actors, despite showing good puppetry skills, lacked charisma. Grown up Simba was whiny, and the kids were annoying. I felt they could have played Scar a bit more of a villain, but instead, it came across as a little pantomime. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! I have wanted to see this musical for a good few years, as one of my ex high school teachers said they saw it in London and it was not to be missed. It had played in Theatres in Australia, but as I knew I was coming to London, I wanted the full impact of this show, and I'm thrilled I got off my butt to book tickets. Not a penny wasted! The opening scene made me cry (what a sap!) but the costumes where honestly overwhelming, and I would be lying to you if I said the Disney movie wasn't one of my favourites! The set, props, and costumes were pure geneius, the performances fantastic (Rafiki was outstanding, absolutely amazing!) and the soundtrack true to the movie.
