Rockville Christian is a great church!…read more Sunday Worship Service is held at 11:00 AM. The church is small, a congregation that is diverse in every dimension, and everyone receives a genuinely warm welcome there. I first visited Rockville Christian Church because although the church I was attending in DC was very nice, I was feeling led to go somewhere closer to home, where I could be part of a church community. One of the pastors at my church in DC recommended Rockville Christian Church, so I went. As soon as I walked into the church, I received a genuinely friendly welcome. I found my seat, and the service began. The music was good at the service. Kay Krekow, a gifted musician, leads the music ministry. The church choir is small, but sings some ambitious selections. I was happy that at Rockville Christian, the congregation sings enthusiastically. (I've sometimes been dismayed to be in churches where you couldn't tell whether the congregation was singing or not, but people really sing here.) The young pastor of the church, Rev. Dr. David Chisham, does a great job of presenting the message. He varies his style of presentation, and this keeps things interesting. Rockville Christian Church is part of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination. The name of the denomination is intentionally simple, as are its Mission, Vision and Confession. It is refreshing to be part of a church that doesn't add any extraneous requirements or conditions to what is specified in the Bible. Finding Rockville Christian Church can be challenging, but it is worth the effort! Once you are on Adclare Road, drive a few blocks through the nice residential neighborhood until the road dead ends at the church.

Don't get me started, I'll dilute my coffee! I appreciate that our military, their families, veterans, and our leaders are always lifted in prayer. Suffice it to say, great place for unconditional love and acceptance. Everyone pitching in when someone is in need and celebrating the milestones of our lives. The community service and camp programs for the youth is so important for their development as Christians and global citizens. The kids programs make them feel special and surrounded by caring adults and teens. Thanks to Deidre who leads crafts for the kids twice a month in addition to a separate children's church. It is nice when the kids say, "what's happening at church today".

His sermons promote inclusivity with a level of biblical sophistication and articulation that can be applied to the modern world we live in. He and the rest of the pastors are kind and demonstrate so much class. However , I noticed a recurring issue that affected my worship experience. Toward the end of service--particularly during the benediction prayer--there is often a noticeable lack of decorum. Many congregants rush to leave early in an attempt to beat parking lot traffic, which is sometimes unavoidable regardless. This creates a distracting and irreverent environment during what should be one of the most sacred moments of the service. On one occasion, someone even bumped into me during prayer without saying excuse me while I still had my eyes closed. That moment made me feel that the reverence due to God and the closing prayer was not being honored. As someone who values old-school worship etiquette and the sanctity of the Word, this culture of rushing out during prayer was deeply disappointing. I believe the church could benefit from encouraging congregants to remain still until the benediction is fully concluded. If someone doesn't leave beforehand, they should respectfully wait until service is truly over. I hope to see the culture evolve so that the beauty and sacredness of worship can be fully preserved. I may return at some point but I'm found another church to go to for now.

An excellent church home! If you are looking for a non-denominational church and a positive…read moreenvironment to take any family member, look no further! I love the environment, the Biblical references for further studies, and the overall acceptance aesthetics.

Living into God’s truths and following the promptings of the Holy Spirit develops a biblical worldview in us the same way Jesus did. This allows us to share the gospel by being spiritually obvious without being obnoxious. Expectation of Imperfection: We want to be a local church where anybody is welcome and all are transformed. We are all imperfect people, but when we come together to follow Jesus with humble hearts, God’s grace forms us into His church. Disciple-Making: We want to fill our communities with people who are intentional and relational as they become more like Jesus. We put our faith into action by listening to God through his word and prayer, obeying what He calls us to do, and sharing our story. We care about Kingdom Growth, NOT Oakdale Growth: We know that Oakdale is just one small part of God’s Kingdom. God-sized movements cannot be contained within the walls of a single church. We are focused on going out into the world to make disciples, trusting that God will meet our needs here at home. Gracious Community: Kingdom growth brings people of many backgrounds and traditions together. In order to reach everyone, our methods will continually have to change, but our message of the gospel will always remain the same. We strive to offer each other grace, as we navigate this journey together.
