Ok so let's get this out there first, yeah I'm a yank and I drove up to Wrexham because of Rob and…read moreRyan buying the football team. Well with that out of the way, after a day walking around the town, visiting the Turf and looking in at the Stadium...I wanted to get a nice pub dinner. I was looking for some other place that turned out the be closed, and then rounded a corner and saw the Nags Head. Earlier in the day I tried to get a Guiness at The Turf, but they had run out, probably because they had a game the night before and the taps were drained. The Nags Head had my dark gold in a glass. They also had a wonderful Chicken pie with peas and roast potatoes. Just a perfect pub dinner. The place seemed to be filled with happy locals, probably a bunch who were tired of seeing american tourists like me taking up space in their favorite pub. It's ok guys, I'm home now so you can get your seat back. The Nags head was a wonderful pub in a nice Wales town that is having a moment in the limelight....enjoy it folks, it probably won't last.

I like the Nags Head a lot. It has a more welcoming atmosphere than most of the other pubs in town,…read moreit is very clean and does some good value food. There's a mixed clientele ranging from youngsters on their way into town to older people drinking their pension away. Its not the most child friendly place and when my one year old daughter had a good shout in there it was made clear that she wasn't welcome. But that's fine, not every pub has to be a family pub. The Nags head does two quiz nights a week and hosts a folk night upstairs every fortnight. One of the few places in Wrexham where you can hear live music. Worth a visit.

Love the WooWoo. But they took my American ID card and said they had never seen anything like it…read moreand basically threatened us. (To kick us out) but it was okay and we got our woowoo and it was Wowootastic & classic. One time there was allegedly "poo" on the wall of the bathroom. People love to stare because the clientele is typically balder old men. Looking around right now I can see at least 9 in my line of sight. Bald men: 9 Bald men with hats on: 2 Woowoo: 0 Chips: 11 "Poo": 1? Hooch EDIT: I am SHOCKED. And DISGUSTED. I thought I knew this place but clearly I don't. I am in SHOCK AND AWE AND DISBELIEF. I am seriously considering going to the hospital right now. I am shaking. You think you know you know a place. Then the waiter comes and not only SLAMS the ketchup bottle closed but also the mayonnaise (the big one maybe 500mL). The whole entire table shook. I was so scared. I am sick to my stomach. Bringing my review down from the previous five stars. Also now that I think about it my Raspberry Refresher was more orange. But the decor is nice which is why this is staying at a solid 4 stars.

Decent spoons - in addition to the Hooch I had a beer called something like Fireside and enjoyed the Lamb Cowl, a Welsh dish that their pubs west of the border offer. The negatives...the usual downside you generally get with Wetherspoons. Named after an American Merchant of Welsh heritage.

For some…read morethis is ideal but personally there is nothing worse than sharing a meal with the chattering and bickering of bloody kids. Admittedly that is what one must expect on a Sunday however the restaurant radiated that 'family fun' atmosphere. The chintzy, dated interior didn't help either. It wasn't the sound of children that irritated me either, the music they played was horrendous; a medley of crooners and swingers serenaded us at a volume that was a touch too loud and, worse, played on repeat. To the food. I went for the pork and it was good. Fairly tender though not too flavoursome and I would have appreciated some crackling on the side. Vegetables came in individual dishes for all each of us and were tepid and bland. The good dollop of stuffing was the best thing on my plate. I went for a dessert; after being told that the sticky toffee pudding was off the menu I went for the warm chocolate cake. I'm glad that I was denied my first choice because the cake was delightful. Thick and rich layers of melted chocolate between a light sponge cake and with an incredible load of cream on the side that tasted better than the pudding itself. I'm struggling to give this place three stars. Overall it is a good place for dinner, though a bit on the pricey side at £10 each for what it is, basic. Also I wasn't too impressed with the service. Not only did we wait what seemed like an age to have our plates cleared for dessert but the waiter also asked us if we wanted apple sauce and horseradish provided - this is something I expect on the plate beforehand and shouldn't have to be specifically requested. Slow and clueless sums this place up and to top it off my parents had been to the Chester Grosvenor the night before and told me about their meal as we ate. 'Nuff said.

I'm a big fan of the skillets and the steaks (especially the minted lamb!), and the set menu at lunchtime is great for us too as it's good value and makes sorting the bill much easier when there are loads of us. It's a really nice spot for lunch and a sly drink in the summer too as you can sit out by the river. Brilliant family spot, love taking our little nephew here as we always feel welcome. Recently under new management since just before Christmas and they're doing a fantastic job.
