They have truly shaped and helped him grow and prepare for Kindergarten. My girls both started at 12 weeks and have blossomed as well. All of the teachers have been amazing. Miss Pam in the infant room is so loving toward the babies, Ms.Julie is so involved in the toddler room, Miss Laney is the twos room is so good with all the kids. Miss Jennifer and Miss Dani have prepared my son he is writing his name and comes home with something new learned everyday.

My daughter complained that the teachers were mean but I kind of just brushed it off. But then I would pick her up from school early and observed what she was talking about. The teachers were sassy and rude to the children - it wasn't behavior that I wanted exemplified for my child. On top of this, the activity log that they shared with the parents was just wrong. They would include activities on it that they didn't do and my husband and I would see the kids doing activities in the classroom that weren't listed on the log. They also mixed our child's profile up with someone else's and we would get reports saying things like "she napped for 45 minutes" or "she ate all of her lunch" when in reality we had picked her up from school before lunch and nap time. We brought this to the attention of the teachers and staff and they temporarily corrected it, but it always went back to being inaccurate. The final straw for me was that there was no sense of community. I joined the parent group hoping that my perspective would change but it turned out that the main focus of the parent group was to fundraise because the Goddard school had no budget for the family/community activities. I found this to be pretty disappointing considering how expensive the school was. We switched to a different preschool and have had a much better experience. I'm only sharing this because choosing a school for our kids can be such a hard decision. I wish all parents and kiddos the best and hope that the Goddard school will take this review into consideration to make some important improvements.

My…read moreoldest daughter has been at Goddard since she was 18 months old - she is now 5 1/2 years old, and my youngest also joined at 18 months and is now 3 1/2 years old. At 3-1/2, the youngest daughter can READ sight words, knows colors, numbers, and weather in English and Spanish (Spanish is not a language we speak at home, so this is all the school). While some reading is due to us working with her, and some in part because of her sister's advancement, a big part (and thank you) is owed to the school for working so diligently with her. At 5-1/2, the oldest daughter has blossomed into an amazing and bright little girl. She is reading at a 4th Grade level, doing math at a 2nd grade level, and the teachers are making sure to encourage her and help her grow, even though it requires them to take "special" time out for her to do so, since she's above the average lesson plans. They have worked very closely with me to make sure she stays engaged and challenged, and as a result she's a happy, healthy, very bright kid who LOVES her school. I read the previous review from someone in April, and while I feel horribly for the situation in theory, I can't imagine it being accurate. There is no mention, for example, of the specific room the child was in, and I can tell you from years of personal experience there's NO WAY the Dave I know at our school would refuse to help a parent who was uncomfortable, or force a child backward and not forward. While I won' t say it outright isn't true (I wasn't there), I can say that the parents who have children here know everything, see everything, and an event like what was described would have been talked about heavily, yet I never heard a peep.... Bottom line, if you are looking for child care, there is hands down no where better in the area - they've won the "Best Childcare in Lake County" award for like 7 years running. If you are unsure, call them and ask to take a tour to see for yourself... you'll be so glad you did.

She is phenomenal and even if you do not put much stock into reviews in general, the proof should be we followed her to an entirely new school and now have our third child at the school... by the time we are done with this one we will have been with Sarah almost ten years! This Gardner School is fantastic. It starts with the leadership at the top and is felt all the way down, but you cannot miss the attention to the detail and just how great this school is. First, they are great with the kids. Seems basic, but needs to be said. From the 2 rooms through every room we have experienced the teachers and staff know how to make kids happy, healthy, safe, smart, etc. Second, the actual programs at this school are unmatched. The core programs in the classes are fantastic and are some of the best planned out things I have seen any school offer for kids this young. Not only that, but the extracurricular actives offered are diverse and awesome. The new assistant director has been excellent putting together these programs and provides awesome photos/videos. Yes... they do cost extra money, but (a) you easily get the value out of it, (b) you get to expose your kid(s) to things you may not have the time to outside of school because of things like work and (c) the kids love them. Third (and I'll make it last), the communication is unbeatable. I cannot oversell this! The staff and teachers are always receptive to conversations, feedback, etc. (I talk to Sarah more than I talk to my mom)... and the teachers are great with the app they use. Even if something doesn't go accordingly to plan at the School it isn't a complete disaster because the School actually communicates with you and you feel fully in the loop. The pictures, updates, etc. on the app make getting through the work day so much easier. Anyway, as a growing family we have moved from Morton Grove to Highland Park and have experienced different daycares/Schools. All have positives, but the Gardner School is far in away the best school ever. This location in particular has something special about it! There is literally no one in my life I wouldn't recommend this school to. No one asked me to write this review, but I really do feel passionately about the school and want to support it in anyway I can. Best decision you will ever make.

They took fantastic care of our daughter from the time she was 3 months until she left for kindergarten, and we were sad when her time with her daycare family had come to an end. She learned so much in her time there and was more than ready for kindergarten both socially and academically. She loved all of her teachers, classmates, and most of all.. all of the crafts and activities they did. When our son was born last summer we knew exactly where we wanted to send him. The staff has always been there to support us as different things popped up and have been super flexible with our schedules. They also taught us so much when we were new parents. My son is in the toddler community and he's learned to do so much for himself and with others! The directress is wonderful and the assistants are great; one of his first words was the teachers name! I'm also proud to say that he is 100% toilet trained and that wouldn't have been possible without the constant help (and changes!) from the guide and assistants. My daughter started out as one of the youngest in her class and she was slow to warm up but with the help of the directress, the assistant, and the environment, she emerged as one of the leaders in her room. I'm so proud of everything she has learned but mostly of how she has developed as a child-she's kind, helpful, eager to learn. She's been learning about word building and everyday she comes home having mastered something new like a song or something she's been working on like sound boxes. I love hearing about the new lessons she receives and her directress is not only knowledgeable but kind and encouraging. The school community is probably one of the most special communities I've ever been a part of. There are often parent events that focus on teaching parents about aspects of the Montessori method, theory, and environment and I always leave these events feeling uplifted and encouraged about the education my children are receiving. Even if it is not what's going on inside the classroom. I was forced to keep sick infants (101.7) fever because she feared the parents would leave after already being closed due to covid prior and parents complained. It was over bearing to the point I left, along with other staff in the room. I got yelled at for sending children home "not sick" to standards of theirs yet.... the child's pcr test came back positive! But because the child never had a fever, they no longer trusted my judgement on who is sick and who is not... reguardless of the fact the child was IN FACT positive. As soon as I gave my 2 week notice, being told i need to give them more than 2 weeks i can not leave in 2 weeks..... later that day I was "fired" and reported to DCFS of child abuse of which, was over ruled and now DCFS is looking into their quality care. This school is all about the highest standards and fitting in and staff drama constantly... their assistants are constantly quiting. Infant room staff has been so unstable that they've gone through 3 teachers just this school year. If you care about your child's well being please, steer clear!
