If you come here in soft…read moreshoes on a weekend, you're going to need to disinfect, bleach, and then BURN THEM, in that order, to avoid your previously fancy footwear dissolving into arcane sludge and then slowly eating through your carpet. Having said that, some of the best nights of my life have been at Corp. I've been going to Resistanz festival every year for the last four, and if I'm in Sheffield for any other reason I inevitably wind up there. Every time, and I do mean every time, I see my friends get obliterated, hook up, and dance like maniacs. There is some strange bayou magic to its foetid bathrooms. Yes, you may lose your kicks, but beyond a shadow of a doubt, the price is worth paying. Incredible bands, fantastic DJs, a friendly clientele, and my favourite accent in all of Yorkshire combined with some of the best alternative music going and cheap drinks. If you're in your stompiest boots (and you should be), what's not to like?

I kinda have to be honest and review it as a facility rather than the quality of the individual nights I've had here.... I will explain.. Firstly I should mention I don't live in Sheffield and have probably been to Corp in the region of 8 to 10 times. Some of those were for gigs, some for club nights and three times for Resistanz festival. It's relatively easy to find in the depths of Sheffield (situated about 5 minutes from The Moor) and puts on a plethora of gigs and events throughout the year. I actually really like the exterior. It gives the feeling of a dirty warehouse club and is spot on for what you'll find inside. There are tables outside which come in very useful if you're at a gig (and the courtyard isn't open). You can't take your drinks outside the venue, but this is perfectly fair (as there are plenty of places to stash on the inside of the door). This particular time around, the smell of vomit really hit me as I went in through the dingy corridor. In fact, I had to go straight outside again so as not to be sick myself. I understand that with the cheap drinks prices and the clientele it tends to attract on certain nights that people probably do drink to excess, it's just never been as bad as any other venue I've ever been to (and that includes Snobs in Birmingham!). Once you get used to the smell, you can hit the bar. On a club night the drinks are ludicrously cheap (70p a single vodka and coke)... That is, if you can call it Vodka. I steered clear on my last visit and stuck to the £1.50 cans of Cider (which my body seemed to thank me for). There are 3 rooms inside (side room, main room and upstairs) and each comes with it's own bar. There is also a separate club area (called Local Authority) attached to the venue and a very large courtyard. Now... If you're a visitor to this venue, you know I HAVE to mention the state of the toilets. They should come with a health warning, seriously. If you have a toilet seat, a lockable door, toilet roll AND handwash; you are in the minority. Normally you might get a max of two of these essential elements. On a side note, Local Authority seems to actually have half decent toilet areas so the venue really needs to pull it's socks up on this. The sound can be quite hit and miss for live acts. It's been excellent for some gigs and terribly poor for others. It can really depend on the sound tech's whether you get an enjoyable aural experience. However... I guess sometimes it just doesn't matter. When you've had enough 70p vodkas on a club night, you probably wouldn't notice. Another quick warning; watch your drink! Everyone should always be wary in clubs, but I've seen spiking quite prominent on some nights at this venue. The security are actually pretty good and seem to keep an eye on everything, but I guess that says more about the clientele that use this venue on selected nights. Oh! And make sure you take enough cash out with you! There is a cash machine in the venue, but it was charging £2 for withdrawals last weekend (which could really hit you if you're on a budget). Finally, no goffick's life would be complete without at least one trip to Corp. I have always had a great time here (despite the toilets and the smell), but that's largely down to the nights I frequent. Don't let this review put you off visiting as the atmosphere can be electric (and worth suffering all the other stuff). Go, visit, enjoy and write your own review.

From looking at the recent listings, it seems to play host to a whole range of tribute bands! I have mainly been to see small, local bands. It has always been easy to get served, staff always friendly.

Historic live venue at the edge of the town centre…read more They host mainly local bands, old legends and tribute bands, but they often also have the occassional more modern or successful band. The Boardwalk is quite small but is perfectly adequate for most of the gigs played there and can also really increase the atmosphere. The staff seem friendly and the drinks prices are average, with promotions on for certain regular nights. There is nearly always something on every night at The Boardwalk and there has been for decades. My parents recall going to see bands there and I don't think that the inside has changed that much. Still, it stays current and has launched the careers of several bands. Great local venue which will likely go on for years and years.

Last night we attended Labyrinth in concert at the venue. We were in the upper balcony, centre…read morestage. There were two women on the back row being disruptive, loud and one of the women had clearly had a lot to drink. We asked them politely to keep the noise down and this fell on deaf ears (probably because they were too loud to hear it). Their behaviour was ruining our experience so once the show came to the interval, we found two members of staff and alerted them to the situation. At this point another patron came up to us and advised the staff that they were unhappy with the two women's behaviour too, and that a group of people had left because of the two women and that multiple people had already asked to move seats because of the disruption. We were told by the staff that a supervisor was on the way, no supervisor ever materialised. We were told that the two women would be spoken to. We watched as the two staff members went to where the women were sitting but did nothing, the disruptive women were never spoken to. The interval was almost over and our party of four did not want to spend the second half next to the badly behaved women and it was clear that the staff were going to do nothing about them. We were offered to move seats to the end of balcony on the left side of the stage, but we felt this view was restricted and not as good a view as our previous seats. We asked if we could move downstairs where there was multiple four seats available but were told we could only stay in the balcony area. I feel this was astonishingly poor customer care, that we felt penalised for the behaviour of others. We lost better seats, lost half of the performance whilst the women who were causing the disruption were allowed to carry being awful to everyone around them, spoiling people's experience and never being questioned. When we were leaving the venue, I went to retrieve my ticket for my umbrella which had been taken aside by a member of staff. There were no staff around for me to hand my ticket to and then I saw that my umbrella alongside other people's belongings had been left on a table where anyone could take these and walk off with them. I then found a member of staff by the doors and asked her who I could speak to about making a complaint. I was met with a stony faced woman who just said 'there's an email address on the website', no 'I am sorry to hear that' no shred of customer care or anything, just a poor end to a terrible experience. I feel incredibly aggrieved that each ticket for our party cost £48.64 each, we spent a total of £194.55 for a night that was ruined by the behaviour of two people and that the staff were aware that these two women were ruining the show for multiple people yet their response was to move everyone else and leave the offending people to continue to act appallingly with no comeback.

I have been to a number of concerts here and like the venue. There isn't much parkig nearby and…read moreunless you get there early for an event, you have to park quite a way away and walk. The venue is just the right size to be able to get a good view even at the back of the hall. The sound also carries well in there unlike some bigger venues. They seem to attract quite a lot of bands, particularly older bands who can still attract a good crowd. There are numerous bars in the city hall, all of which are quite expensive but no more so than other event venues. There are also icecream sellers. It's also seems that you don't have to queue for the loo for hours unlike at the bigger venues.

Have been twice over the last two years…read more Once to see Sway in 2009, which was a great gig, good support, good DJ's as well. The ticket was only £3 for the night which included a free Southern Comfort and mixer and also entry to the club night afterwards. Absolute bargain. By far the best gig of 2010 was for Arrested Developement. Golden Age Hip - Hop legends. Great set and great night. This band could easily sell out arenas back in the US Good atmosphere and no trouble either which you might normaly associate with the kind of music scene. They are really onto a winner with the night.
