Our daughter has grown so much since attending and loves Ms. Anna, her school mates, and the environment so much! She always has stories and lessons she's learned from the day. I love how the small group really gets to know each other and how intentional and curated the lessons are to each child. I'm also constantly in awe of Teacher Anna's patience, kindness, attention to detail and the way she holds boundaries in a way that's firm but also so gracious. It really has created this safe space where kids feel supported, loved and free to be themselves and grow. She is amazing at redirecting when needed and also comforting when needed. Really couldn't ask for anything more, it was the exact fit we had been looking for for over 3 years!! We love it here!

He loves Teacher Susan and enjoys HFP's focus on play. Watching him mature over the last 2 years at HFP, I can see a huge difference in his conflict resolution skills and overall emotional stability. He knows how to be kind to strangers, understands how to attempt to play well with others and even suggests conflict resolution strategies to us. We also love HFP's parent community, it definitely doesn't feel like "just" daycare. I find it easy to believe that HFP as an institution will be in Portland for years to come.

The teacher at HFP is incredibly skilled, kind, compassionate, playful and inspiring. There is strong anti-bias curriculum which means that big questions regarding race, gender, orientation, able-ism, etc. are explored, dialogues are facilitated and children are given a caring place to navigate their thoughts and feelings. The parent involvement, while substantial, is what makes this community so amazing! I feel as I did not just gained a fantastic place for my child to grow and learn but also a whole village !!! I have toured lots of places and none matches HFP!!! If you think a coop is the right answer for your family you should certainly check HFP out, it's a wonderful place to be in.

Kids were engaged with her story telling, fun props and various costumes. As parents we loved it too. For my young toddler though her voice was bit loud in some moments but elder kids were loving it. All the rooms were open for kids and she switched on the music and dance lights. Kids had more fun wearing tonnes of masks, coloring handmade elephants and running around. I felt the food space is too cramped and it was bit inconvenient for large gathering. Apart from that this place is a stellar! Each wall is adorned with some wall art. A beautiful cherry blossom Tree in one toy room. I liked this place and the owner. She was there through out to support in any way possible. This is a very personalized place and it has tonnes of things to keep the kids busy:). She rents it too for birthday parties. I will highly recommend this place and will be going there again with my toddler.

However, I was uneasy many times throughout the experience with Jennifer and felt you deserve to know why. The multiple additions of drivers to approved school pick up list were overwhelming. Not knowing who was picking up my children, compelling me to ask if those individuals knew my children was unnerving. On 1/18/18 Jennifer made a call directly to the school to add an Oona's Playcare employee to the approved school pick up list without my knowledge. I was told Jennifer proceeded to curse obscenities at the school secretary and hung up when she was told the directive to change pick up is required to come from a parent. I was appalled. I felt trapped at work that day with no options for after school care. I did not want to address my concerns with Jennifer for fear of retaliation as my children remained in her home. I felt solace in the fact my kids were content and old enough to communicate if they were not. Unfortunately, my silence likely enforced this behavior as acceptable, when it was not. I accept that responsibility. On 3/14/18 I received a call from the school that my kids were waiting but no one had arrived to pick them up. My heart sank at that moment in the middle of an airport as I waited for my plane to go home from work that evening. I was paralyzed. I could not continue to disregard this behavior nor was I going to leave my children in a situation while I wait out a contractual 1 month written notice period. Someone from Oona's Playcare arrived for my kids within minutes of that phone call, only 15 minutes late, it happens. Unfortunately, my overall experience over the six-month period was disconcerting and more than I could tolerate any longer.

I also learned a lot about parenting from our discussions and readings at our parent meetings (especially "No Bad Kids" by Janet Lansbury). The co-op experience is unique because you get to be in the classroom regularly along with a parent coach and two to three other parents each day. It creates a very special community experience, and you get to be there with your child as they learn and grow. As a new parent with a Covid baby, I was so thankful to find a strong community at Pea Pod. I'm still close with many other parents from our cohort, and I love that our kiddos have known each other for over half of their lives! Most importantly, I feel like my child was truly cared for, respected, and allowed to be herself at Pea Pod. This meant - and still means - so much to me. It was the best childcare experience I could've wished for during those two precious years of my daughter's life, and I would recommend Pea Pod to any parent looking for loving care and a community for themselves and their child!

Peapod is an unlicensed, unregulated co-op preschool operating out of Tabor Space in Portland. As…read moreof July 2025, they were cited by DELC for unlawful care. No license, no DHS oversight, no required training, and no accountability if a child is harmed. They employ Jasmine Kennedy, who is unregistered and has no early childhood education experience (confirmed via her own public LinkedIn profile). She doesn't lead activities or engage with the kids meaningfully. Crafts were never more than paint haphazardly smeared onto paper out blocks of wood. Never once did we see a semblance of any kind of planned lessons or sessional activities from this "teacher." (Even through peapod says she's not a teacher, she's listed as such on both their website and her own LinkedIn). Multiple children, including ours, disclosed being grabbed, yelled at, and made to feel unsafe by her. When we raised concerns, the board shut down communication, deleted our posts, and said we needed to "manage our energy" at drop-off. No one ever asked how our child was doing. A leaked multi-page board document reveals a disturbing pattern: after a child disclosed being hurt by Jasmine while alone with her, the board portrayed the parents as the problem. They called the mom manipulative, overly anxious, and mentally unwell, implied her concerns were racially motivated, and labeled both her and the child liars. Jasmine was described as emotionally overwhelmed and burnt out, with the document centering her discomfort, not the child's safety. Multiple other parents had also shared concerns about Jasmine being rough, but those were ignored as "boundary setting." Instead of addressing her behavior, the board unanimously voted to terminate the family's enrollment claiming the family was "a harm to the community." Since speaking out, Peapod leadership has labeled us mentally unstable, mirroring the retaliation described in their own records. Peapod uses community-friendly language, but behind the scenes it silences parents and protects unqualified staff at kids' expense.
