I have been many times…read morewithout issue but the most recent time I was told I was too drunk, despite having had only one pint that night, and when I asked if there was any way I could demonstrate I was not drunk they said I had no choice but to leave. As I was saying goodbye to my friends a member of staff began to shout at me. In the end I left along with at least 15 of my friends due to our treatment. I will not be returning as I felt the staff were extremely unreasonable and unkind, especially when you consider the number of drunk old men who regularly harass women at the bar who never get spoken to despite complaints.

Now slave to the ever growing commuter belt the Chequers Inn would seem to be yet another victim to the fatigue of the chain pub. I am very biased in my review but only because I had one of the most singely bad experiences ever in this very pub. My girlfriend and I partook in a meal after a day walking through the scenic Knowle Park. It's a nice walk that I've been doing since I was a boy and a place to which I still like to return. The meal was awful. One of the abysmal plates was a terrible tuna steak, undercooked and comlpete with a giant piece of scale hanging from its side. Under time constraints we decided to make do and quickly worked through the meal chalking it up to bad experience not counting on the food poisoning it would evidentally later evoke. This was however not the crowning glory of our sour experience. I was standing to leave (and I may be tall before you read on but I certainly do not touch the ceiling) the next thing I know I'm covered in white dust and my hand is bleeding. Part of the ceiling had literally fallen, bounced off my shoulder (luckily I was standing lest it would've clouted me directly on the head) and clipped my hand on the way down. Minimal care from the staff was taken to make sure either of us was fine. At this point I was quite bewildered still not quite sure why my hair was covered in plaster and why my hand was cut. Other people around us seemed more clued on and were demanding free drinks and such the like for us. Just wanting to get out of there we promptly left and latterly I wrote a letter of complaint My meal was refunded and a free meal was also offeredwhich I think understandably I chose not to claim. All in all a very lame experience indeed. From start to finish a poor show on the side of the staff and a poor meal to boot. Steer far clear of this one if possible.

It has all the traditional pub games at one end of the bar including pool tables and a darts room. This is a brilliant idea as unlike in other pubs there is plenty of room to play your pool shots without knocking into walls, posts or people. Families are welcome and facilities are laid on to keep the kids entertained. A conservatory provides them with space in which to play without disturbing other patrons and a garden with slides and swings to give them extra stimulation in the summer. The bar staff are friendly and on my visit the landlord was in the pub and engaged me and my friend in some conversation which added a touch of personality to the place. Parking is not a problem as there is plenty of room on the pub's grounds however one customer I got chatting to told that the pub has previously been targeted by police for drink drivers so it is worth being extra careful and considering this when accepting that second pint. The prices are standard for pubs but helpfully the bar tariff is displayed in clear view next to the bar.

Pool table and darts stage with outside play area as well as some games behind the bar. Staff are happy to entertain and get involved any games or conversations. Not many other pubs i go to do i find the manager at the bar talking and watching the acts. As for drinks range everything you could want is covered more gins than i knew existed and decent pint served. Very few seem to have John Smiths let alone serve it well. Keep up the good work and give a Saturday night a go always something going on.

But when the sun is shining and you can spill outside it becomes a classic - with the Pantiles as its very own beer garden! The various levels of the precinct serve as long benches and the lack of traffic makes it both peaceful and somewhat removed from the hustle & bustle of everyday TW. It has lots of artexing inside and little wooden cubby holes with seat in that are quite cosy. The staff are always friendly, it does quite often seem to be male dominated and it is often busy and lively in here and they regularly have entertainment at weekends which is great! There is plenty of seating outside both to the front and to the back of the pub. The view out the front is not so great though as it is of the main road.
