My issue was not with the jewelry itself but with the two young female attendants that I asked for assistance. I was very obviously American and a tourist since I told them I was from California. I told them I was looking for 14k jewelry pieces, but they told me that they only carried up to 10k. They then proceeded to speak to each other in front of me that I "must be looking for gaudy jewelry." I can say for a fact that nothing I was wearing was showy, bright, or tacky, so I deduced that I was instantly being pigeonholed into the "American tourist" stereotype.
