I cannot say enough good things about this place and about Vinko Kuzman!!!…read more I have a nearly two year history with sciatica as a result of not one but three lovely herniated discs in my lumbar. In my mind, surgery is a last resort and I've been on a tour of conservative treatments from physiotherapy to massage and more so I'm no stranger to Chinese medicine or acupuncture. My pain had been under control and I was doing well until a recent flare up landed me in the ER 4 days before our scheduled trip to Sydney (from NYC). Determined not to miss our friends' wedding despite my husband's logical concerns, I stubbornly decided to move forward with our trip. Before leaving the states, I got an (my first) epidural that worked on my lower back but left my sciatica screaming. When we landed in Sydney, I was DESPERATE for relief after not sleeping for over a week. The first acupuncturist I found (NOT Vinko) was very nice but seemed to make things worse. The next day, I found Vinko and was grateful that the holidays left him with availability and he could see me that same day. After asking me a series of questions and patiently listening to me, he did a combination of gua sha and acupuncture on me and AAAAHHH. Finally some relief. I felt mild discomfort instead of utter misery for the first time in days. Throughout our trip, I saw Vinko 3 more times and he helped me feel progressively better... and became almost like a trusted friend to us. His bedside manner is remarkable, his knowledge unmatched, and he truly cares about his patients healing... that much is clear. There was no upsell or disingenuous humble bragging. He made it possible for me to not only get through but actually enjoy my trip. I am forever grateful to Vinko and he will always stand out as one of the best practitioners, professionals and human beings I have met. If you're in Sydney, run don't walk to see him!!!

These guys are fantastic healers. Just be prepared to shed a tear or two in the process…read more When I worked in Ashfield, a trip to Ling Nan TCM Centre was a fortnightly experience. They knew exactly how to fix me, no matter my ailment, and as the masseuse was an acupuncturist and herbalist as well, I trusted that he wasn't just kneading my muscles aimlessly, but knew the right buttons to push. I found this out on one particular visit to see Edward Chen. I came to see Mr Chen with a back injury (he specialises in sports injuries as well as herbs, acupuncture, massage and reflexology). My back had worsened and worsened until I couldn't bend to pick up a glass, let alone tie my shoelaces. I explained how I got the injury to Mr Chen, who in turn explained to me what he was going to do. "At one point you will ask me to stop," he explained. "I won't. I will keep going to fix you." I agreed without hesitation. As potentially frightening as this line could have been, I trusted Mr Chen and by this point was getting desperate. He was correct - at one point during the massage, with one thumb in a point in the back of my leg, I let out a scream and began crying hysterically, asking him to stop. This only lasted 10 seconds, but it was intense. As I calmed down, Mr Chen explained to me that the pressure point was also an emotional trigger - thus the crying. Leaving the massage room at the end of my session, I entered a room full of now apprehensive clients - I dare say I would be apprehensive too if I heard desperate pleas and screams coming from a room I was about to enter. My back was perfect the next day. Even now as I live in Lilyfield, I will travel to Ashfield for a massage from this man. I've never cried or been hurt again, so don't fear - this isn't a common experience. He has magic hands and the prices here are notably lower than at most other massage and/or acupuncture clinics in the city (full body massage for only $45). Highly Recommended.

This place is great for cheap, good Chinese massage. The type where you want to scream out in pain,…read morebut you know that that won't make them stop. But that afterwards, your muscles feel the most relaxed they've felt in years. There's no need to book (I don't even know if you can book), but it does get pretty busy, especially on a Saturday. If they can't fit you in straight away, they'll simply tell you to come back in an hour. This is not the place you come for a relaxing massage - there's no niceties such as calming music or soothing decor, and you're lucky if the massage therapist speaks even basic English. It's just table, lie down, massage - but if you want a deep, cheap massage that will work on all those knots, I'd definitely recommend it.

I dunno about you guys, but when I think of Newtown, I don't think about therapeutic oils and…read morerelaxation therapies. That is, until I went into Pure Botanicals. Beautiful scents enveloped me as I entered the store. Their shelves are filled with their own brand of essential oils, bath and shower soaps, shaving products, and more. According to Pure Botanicals, their purpose is to make health care easily accessible, affordable, and supportive. With this in mind, the staff is extremely helpful in suggesting natural methods to enhance one's health and wellbeing. I had a great experience at the store. Their line of men's products smells great, as it is not too fragrant. I purchased a face moisturizer to try, containing comfrey and marshmallow herbs, rosehip and Vitamin E Oil. It's pricey--around $40. Not only do they have many products (and an online store!), but also their in-store clinic offers many alternative treatments, including hypnotherapy, acupuncture, and massages. A seasoned professional in the field conducts each treatment.

Oh hello my local smelly shop!…read more I had no idea these guys has remedial massage available, or regular massage. As well as naturopaths and other holistic medicine practitioners. I was referred here by a friend who got a massage and said that they were good. So being that my neck is causing me all kinds of grief I thought I'd check them out. I'm glad I did. I've been going here for about 2 months now and Glendon has worked wonders on my neck and shoulders. I may have even fallen asleep during one of his sessions, ops! My bad. He's lovely and his knows his stuff. All the appointments happen under the shop where there's a lovely couched seating area with tea and coffee available while you wait for your appointment and you can watch the world go by through the double glass doors as you wait listening to relaxing background music. Upstairs they stock a whole range of amazing things, from candles, to burn sticks to oils and tea. They actually stock from one of my favourite tea places in here which has delighted me no end. So if you're walking past and have never gone in, go in and have a wonder.
